“Wince” Carter?
September 19, 2008, 3:50 pm

Everyone knows the story, right? “Wince” Carter is injury-prone, missing time to minor aches and pains. Right? Wrong. A NetsDaily analysis shows that Carter can add the nickname “Mr. Durable” to his long list, at least since he’s joined the Nets. Carter ranks fifth among the top 50 NBA players in terms of games lost to injuries (or suspensions) the past four seasons, missing only 14. Least durable? Kenyon Martin.

Are the pundits ready to stop calling him Wince Carter yet? Seemed pretty healthy with his past few seasons with the Nets. Good article from netsdaily as always

Kenyon Martin is still rated as a top 50 player?

No, they won't. They'll simply bring up the fact that this isn't a playoff team in the weak East, even if Carter does incredibly well.

Wow, talk about jinxing! It's like whenever the announcers go "Player X has hit 15 consecutive free throws", you know what happens next. Poor Uno Cinco...

Marv Albert seems to specialize in that.

It's a neat list, but it honestly might not mean much to some.

I've always brought up the fact that Vince has missed very few games ever since he arrived in NJ. But, people generally respond with something like this: the whole name "Wince Carter" stems from the fact that he doesn't suck it up like other players do, not because he misses/missed some games. When "player x" drives the lane, gets knocked, and falls to the floor, he gets up. When Vince does the same, he'll sometimes stay down, wait for the trainer to come out, and make a big scene out of nothing. I think it's a silly theory behind the name, because he's still playing the games, which is what matters the most.

Sorry but I have to add this.

But I know one or more of you is going to force me to make a comment.

I knew you would force me to make a comment. Here it is.

No, the theory goes that Vince won't drive again after being knocked down in a game.

Have you guys ever seen that fake NBA Live cover with Vince laying down on the ground holding his ankle?

No, the theory goes that Vince won't drive again after being knocked down in a game.

Now, first time Vince gets hit, he gets pissed and turns it on. If he were to take a 2nd hit, I'm not so sure how anxious he would be to risk being hit a third time.

But the problem is that when Vince goes to the basket, he tries TO AVOID CONTACT. That is why he attempts so many circus shots. But he still gets fouled a decent amount of times. He just tries to avoid the hard contact, unlike RJ.

As good a FT shooter as Vince is, he should be trying to draw contact, then try his circus shot.

But Vince is one season older now, so let's see what happens.

Wrong. Vince loves contact why do you think he gets injured so much?

...:devilwink:

There are many many dumb posts in this thread...not surprising.

Carter gets hit more in playoffs than in regular season. Refs allow a more physical game in the playoffs and players take advantage of it. Carter also gets whacked more because he is the franchise player. As a Net, Carter has averaged almost nine trips to the foul line...8.6 to be exact...over 27 playoff games. So the theory that he doesn't get up after first being hit holds no water. In fact, the opposite is true.

When a player in ANY sport fakes an injury, makes it appear particularly painful and debilitating, it's normally called playing possum...with the player attempting to gain an advantage when he returns, assuming the opponents believe the act and think the "injured" play won't be 100%. Why won't anyone believe that's what Carter is doing?

Kenyon Martin who had a hurt knee when he left the Nets has missed 129 games since, the most of any significant player in the NBA and more than ten times the number missed by Carter. Jermaine O'Neal who many wanted the Nets to acquire, is second in missed games, with 122.

RJ missed 80 games in the past four years, the same as Emeka Okafor. Okafor is seen by fans here as injury-prone. RJ is not.

kobe winced more in the playoffs than vince because he still hasn't had the mj "flu game" :)

now even paul pierce beat him to it! lol

You forgot goes back to the locker room only to come back 10 minutes later fine.

Yeah Kobe probably did winced more, but he does play more games in the playoffs. Just a theory.

so, let's review. Vince gets hurt.
(1) he exhibits pain. Fans mock him.
(2) He leaves the game, gets treatment, and returns. Fans mock him.
(3) He leaves game, and doesn't return. Fans mock him.

I think I am getting the hang of it.

1st of all it was a joke...everyone knows kobe is one tough ombre...still, he did try to pull an "mj flu game" vs sacto in the west finals a few years ago...wincing all game...and he didn't have a very good game and they lost...
