Anyone get Windows 7 or upgrade? I've been thinking about doing it, as I'm running Vista right now. But I'm not sure if it's even worth it... any thoughts?

Vista is the only OS I've never had any problems with. I'm not switching.

If you're fine with what you have, there's no need.

I didn't feel like switching to Vista and I've been on XP since its release -- Well, up and till now, of course.

Wait, so if I update it I won't lose my files, etc, it'll just change the system?

Got my new computer last month, so the cd with the update is coming next week I think.

Yeah if I upgrade from vista home premium to windows 7 premium will it delete my files?

Vista is the only OS I ever had problems with. I hated it so much that I took my computer back and had Windows XP put on it. I wouldn't trade Windows XP for Windows 7, no matter what they say.

Go with whatever you feel safer with.

Unfortunately, if you install Windows 7 on to your C: drive for example, it will reformat and delete all of your files.

On the other hand, you can partition your hard drive making it C: and D:. Simply move the files you want to keep on to your new partition and install Windows 7 on to the free partition.

how's the photo software and downloading? good shit?

I'm trying to decide if I wanna get the new Macbook unibody ($1000) or get a netbook with Windows 7 ($400)...dunno if the macbook would be worth an extra 6-hundy.

I've upgraded 3 pcs at home and everything works perfecto. It is noticeably snappier for some things but not a huge difference if you have vista.

My internet (Google Chrome, Firefox, and/or IE) crashes all the time. Will W7 help alleviate that? Am I better off buying it in the box? Is the upgrade around $119?

Thanks!

OEM version is cheaper and the same thing. Once installed, you get windows updates to keep your system up to date.

I don't know if it will make your browsers not crash.

To me, the promise of Windows 7 is 64 bits. Windows has had luke warm 64 bit support in XP and Vista, while the OS I use, Ubuntu, is great for 64 bit support. I mean uses memory over 3.2G (my laptop has 6G, my desktop 8G). I also mean the apps are compiled for 64 bit speed and extra memory they can use.

you really shouldn't be doing photo software on a laptop. Your color is going to look different when you use the laptop in different places.

If you upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, you won't lose anything. I just upgraded tonight after I got my disc from Microsoft. You don't lose anything at all. All the programs work just fine too since I've been playing with it.

I just responded to this above...oops. If you upgrade from Vista, you won't lose anything. I just did it tonight without any issues.

I hope so, that's the only thing I wanted to know.

Thanks BB and Ronan. :ghoti:

The move from XP is a bit more of a pain because you have to reinstall apps. (Requires clean install)

ABM... I definitely think it will fix your browser crashes... most likely you have some type of plugin hosed or spyware because your browsers shouldn't be crashing.

Are you old enough to remember Windows ME? I get the cold sweats just thinking about it. And, oh yeah, Vista is the most unstable platform since ME.

ME was the worst OS I've ever used -- XP and Windows 7 have nothin' on 2000 and 95.

I can remeber when you had to change a chip on your motherboard to upgrade your OS!

Franklin's, Amiga's, OS2/Warp... my how things change. I think someday the OS won't matter... what we think of a PC will just be display device with very fast network connections. Tune to whatever flavor of floats your boat... everything will really run on some super computer owned by Google.
