He has great shooting percentages. His issues are how passive he is. He doesn't get rebounds, assists, or steals. He gets lost on D. His handle is decent (but not good). The only way he can drive to the basket is off of hand-off screens at the top of the key.

I don't think he was passive as much as he deferred to the seniors. But I guess I am biased because I watched him go 10-13 against Oregon with 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. He looked anything but passive. His rebounding does not appear to be a strength but he did play on a team that led the conference in rebounding. We will see how he turns out in 2-3 years after he adds 20 lbs

6th in Minutes played, but was 12th in Rebounding %, 9th in Assist %... I could go on.
Basically, he was a decent to good player. The issue is not a lack of opportunity with a senior-laden team. He has tools, but he just doesn't use them well consistently.

The Oregon game was likely his best of the year (by a large margin). It's not wise just to judge him on the single game.

You are right it is not wise to judge him on one game. Nor is it very wise to call him passive based on his stats as a freshman in college....even if he did shoot 55% from the field. He will not be the same player in 2-3 years.

Givony for ESPN has accurately predicted who the Blazers would pick, right down to Murray at 23. I think he was saying Topic at 7 and Salaun at 14 but I don't think Salaun lasts to 14. It will be interesting to see who they're mocking in the next couple weeks.

I think strong drafts are easier than weak drafts to predict, since you know the guys are what teams want. A weak draft is basically two second rounds where you take fliers and whoever impresses you at the combine or what have you. I guess I'm saying I don't know if either of these prediction guys will be even close this year.
 
I think the first three picks will be set soon. I think at four, SA will try to game the draft. I’m sure that is probably why Castle said he only wants to go to a team without a PG. I expect they will try to get him at 8 instead of 4 and try to steal another player at 4 they know would not get to 8 otherwise.

This is my thought as well. Seems choreographed almost.

Castle can skip workouts but teams can still draft him

If I remember Chet didn't want Orlando so he specifically didn't workout for them

Anyone else getting a San Antonio vibe from Jared McCain? He just seems to me like the kind of player they'd love, and they wouldn't mind him being a PG-sized SG, because they're obviously not about traditional PGs, and they want shooting around Wemby more than anything.

The more I think about it, I'm not sure the Spurs would really like Castle. They want shooting, shooting, shooting.
 
Us drafting Clingan when we have Ayton has a very drafting-Scoot-when-we-are-publicly-committed-to-Dame vibe to it.

I like the Blazers' second round almost better than our first round. I would be very happy with that draft.

Portland should not waste any capital to move up in this draft unless it is sending out one of the vets and a pick for a better pick and assets. Basically completing another need, which is clearing cap space for a rebuilding team. I certainly would not be chasing Clingan. My last memory of him is allowing Edey to drop 37/10 on him in the final. That is more than just a bad game. Additionally, Givony has him available at 7. Personally, I am good with Ayton. What are they going to do, move him to the four?

Many have suggested that Ayton reminds them of Aldridge, and that he could and perhaps even should play the 4. However, I don't think he has the ability to defend on the perimeter the way a forward needs to in today's NBA.

I like Ware at 14 if the Blazers takes Holland at 7. If they take Clingan and still have Ayton, Ware is buried unless he and Ayton can play the four.
