Wojnarowski: 'I think (Aldridge) is going to be in PDX for the foreseeable future

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the undisputed journalistic authority on all things NBA, was on "The Bald-Faced Truth With John Canzano" to talk Trail Blazers and NBA (you can listen here, with the Wojnarowski interview toward the middle). During the interview, Wojarnowski was asked about rumors regarding LaMarcus Aldridge and his reported request for a trade. Here's what Wojnarowski had to say ...

"Well I think he's going to be in Portland in the foreseeable future. I don't know what leverage he has right now. He's got two years left on his deal. You know, a lot can change in two years in the NBA. A lot can change in one year. And listen, at the end of these two years maybe as a free agent he decides to leave. Maybe Portland moves him at the trade deadline before he leaves, before he can leave. But I don't see them … I don't think Neil Olshey is going to trade him for pennies on the dollar. There's a star attraction, there's a guy they can bring back that they can build around of course they'll do it, but I don't know if LaMarcus Aldridge is commanding that kind of value on the market right now.

"Certainly there's teams who want him, but what are they willing to give up? I think he's going to be in Portland. Certainly the team will be much improved this year. I think they have a chance to compete for the playoffs, and by the way, he's got to play at a very high level for them to do that. I think he can maybe want to somewhere else but he can increase his value by playing really well for them this year. I think that will quiet down because Portland has not shopped him and they haven't put him out there and I don't think they're going to do that"​

While rumors make for great stories, Wojnarowski points out from the top the most obvious reason why most of this is time wasted: Aldridge still has two years left on his deal. Add in that Olshey has done well to improve the team this offseason and it makes sense why Wojnarowski, who is as plugged-in as anyone covering the NBA, believes all of the speculation will "quiet down."
