"The problem in Portland is always with the owner Paul Allen, who may not want to go through another rebuilding. Because of Brandon Roy's knee injuries and the fact that Roy is going to be - at the very best - in and out of the lineup over the next several years, and - at the worst - may have his career curtailed by the severity of these knee injuries. They're on the hook for a lot of money for him.

"They can continue to build around LaMarcus Aldridge, but with [Joel] Przybilla, [Marcus] Camby, Andre Miller, they've got some guys here who they could move, maybe get some younger players and start rebuilding, as opposed to trying to hang in there and get in the playoffs this year.

"Nate McMillan is in the last year of his contract and will probably become a free agent at the end of the season and look elsewhere, and maybe continue to talk about re-signing in Portland.

"I think the issue in Portland is going to be what the owner wants to do. Because I think the basketball people -- GM Rich Cho -- they're ready to start rebuilding. But they've got to get the owner on board with that."

If Cho can get back a young starter, sure, go for it.

But dumping these guys for anything less(like 1st round picks) and essentially tanking would be a horseshit move. I hate quitters.

"blow it up," "rebuild," "retool." Whatever you want to call it, it still means big changes versus little ones are probably in order. The idea that PA is balking doesn't really surprise me given how long the last tear down and reload took -- and frankly the results were pretty mixed.

I guess we'll see what happens.

Well you know how it is, with Paul Allen loving all those happy go lucky players like Rudy and Patty, and goofballs like Darius Miles. Paul must just want to have fun! Yipeee!!! :ohno:

Wojo THINKS Cho wants to start rebuilding and he THINKS Paul doesnt. Opinions arent facts.

Your title is misleading. Wojo THINKS Cho wants to start rebuilding and he THINKS Paul doesnt. Opinions arent facts.

Again, all I did was take Blazer Edge's title

"Wojnarowski: Blazers GM Rich Cho Ready To Rebuild, Needs To Convince Owner Paul Allen"

shorten it a little and replace rebuild with blow it up.

You know you folks can dismiss Wojo all you want, but he has a lot of sources in the league and tends to know what is going on quite often.

Guys that say anything negative about the team are always dismissed as not knowing anything

Wojo's earned a bit of his "I'll toss journalistic principles out of the window when it comes to talking about the Blazers" rep. Whether he does have a hard-on for the franchise, or just wants to report the gossip from those who do, he's on the same objectivity level as Sam Smith, Tommy Heinsohn and Bill Platchke. yeah, those guys have "sources" too, but I wouldn't take what they said to the bank.

Greg Oden is our only hope of winning a championship in the next 8-10 years. So if Cho wants to blow that up.... :dunno:

We are battling for the 6th seed. No need to blow up anything yet. Minor tweaks, yes.

I don't see anything negative in the idea of moving older pieces for younger ones. It's simply a matter of timing. I'm of the opinion that there's little to be lost by waiting until after the season ends to move Camby and Miller...well, other than the fun of having a team actually playing in the postseason.

Timing for a deal is never important. The contents of the deal are.

I tend to doubt that - his sources had Warkentein replacing KP.

Warkentein probably had a damn good chance at the time, and that is probably what he reported. If I remember right, he was the guy who broke the story in the first place that KP was going to get axed.

It would be good to back it up. I haven't seen Woj prove much as far as predictions or sources.

He was talking about KP being in trouble WELL before it seemed at all likely that was the case.

I (maybe) disagree. This team isn't challenging for HCA... until we have a team that's capable of doing that--or we have a team with young guys who may improve to get us to that level--we need to keep changing things.

Trading Miller and Joel and Camby would not be, to me, blowing things up, but it wouldn't be minor tweaks, either. Somewhere in between.

But it's something I think that we should do.

i dont think we can get anything of value for miller and pryz. nobody will give us a starting point, which is what we need. so i think keeping miller is the way to go... unless the jazz want to send us williams without getting back LaMonster. lol

All depends on the price. I'd trade LMA for the right price.

You think the club should trade all three of those guys this year midseason or would be open to doing it?

For the right deal that improves the club to contender status, I'd be at least open/interested in trading anyone on the roster... but I don't think losing those three would equate to addition by subtraction. Miller and Camby are still very solid starting players so if I'm Cho I'm primarily dangling JPEC and picks. I'd really like to see them take a healthy Miller Mathews Batum LA & Camby roster into the playoffs as its one of the better starting 5s in the league. They've gone 20-11 without Roy this year which is a winning at a 65% clip. Depending on how things shake out in the playoffs, I'd probably be more interested in moving Miller and Camby then.

Open, leaning towards probably should.

I don't think that the team is good enough to matter right now. If it's not good enough to matter, we should be getting assets that will help us down the road.

I don't think we should get rid of them just to do it or to clear up playing time for anyone...
