Something about this doesnt sit right with me. Especially of they get compensation out of it.

Damaged goods?
According to a league source, the Timberwolves have asked the NBA to look into whether Portland knowingly traded them an injured player when the Blazers dealt Martell Webster to Minnesota for the 16th overall pick in last summer's draft.

Webster on Monday underwent surgery to repair a disk in his back and is expected to miss about six weeks. He said the injury dates to last spring's playoffs, when he was undercut and fell hard in a game against Phoenix.

The Wolves are likely looking for a draft pick as compensation

Didn't he have to go through a physical before the treade was finalized?

This is bullshit. As MM said, the TWolves doctors/trainers obviously gave him a physical and he passed. If it was something serious, they should have caught it.

That's going to be tough to prove the Blazers knew something was wrong with Webs, especially when you start talking about back pain. Secondly, if the T-Wolves doctors signed off on his physical what would the Blazers physicians have seen that they couldn't?

At worst I expect the Blazers will get fined, but I really doubt it.

I guess they will say this type of injury dos not show up in a physical. IMO Minnesota can only win this if Martel (or KP) is quoted as saying the Blazers knew about it. Otherwise it would be difficult to prove they knew for sure.

I just get the feeling that they are trying to milk a draft pick out of it cuz they are pissed. It will be interesting to see how the league handles this.

I'm sure that they knew he had injured his back in the playoffs last year and any back injury can come back to haunt you. Don't see how they can win this, but you never know.

Maybe we should sue Ohio State for not telling us how injury-prone Oden was.

The only thing that could bite the Blazers in the ass is if they did an MRI or something and noticed significant damage to his back and then failed to disclose that during the trade, otherwise undifferentiated back pain or having a disc flare up a few months down the line after a full off-season of workouts isn't going to wash.

Can we get a pick from them, stating we didn't realize Babbit was white when we drafted him. We'll just swap firsts next year and call it good.

I was kind of thinking along the same lines. It's looking like the Wolves pretty much got Webs for free (time will tell), so asking for a draft pick back would just be adding insult to injury.

KP was so good, he actually pritch-slapped both teams in that deal?

+1 The Oden joke was funnier but this one caused me to choke on a MIke and Ike, so it wins.

Kind of funny that Minnesota thinks it needs more compensation for trading away Luke Babbit. Just how shitty is Martell Webster?

WTF, Kahn?! Minny seeking compensation because Webby got injured?

This makes no sense. Is it not their responsibility to deem if a player is healthy before signing him? Do these morons not realize that they have to do physicals after trading for someone?

Re: WTF, Kahn?! Minny seeking compensation because Webby got injured?

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask :)

I agree with you, yuyuza... teams have medical exams for a reason.

It's hilarious that they bitch about Marty getting hurt now, because they didn't say shit when he was killin it in preseason.

EDIT: oops, didn't see this thread. Thanks for the merge.

If they do indeed follow through with some sort of investigation, I see Kahn getting ostracized from the inner NBA circles. No one will want to trade with him any longer.

I think David Kahn just realized that Webster is not a PG and he is pissed.

I think Paul Allen put in a complaint to the league for whatever team hires KP next, saying he swindled us on the prospects of Victor Claver.

Uh oh! How long before New Orleans tries to open up an investigation regarding us misrepresenting Bayless as a PG?

They can't do that. Monty is there - they have no leg to stand on ;)

You got to feel bad for Webster, "We're disappointed that we got him" seems to be the theme for his career.

My guess is they don't use him as a PG anyhow, at least not much. I think they brought him in to challenge Thornton at SG.

Don't worry, Minnesota doesn't need a PG.

Kahn has got the best passing big man since Vlade Divac... in Darko Milicic. :chestbump:

I wonder if Minny is interested in a big man . . . we have got some with no (or very little) damage. :D
