World Cup!!!

This world cup TV numbers showed that the interest is there. Timbers fans and Sounders fans (even if you all hate them *cough*Wheels*cough*) show that there is interest. ESPN's main analyst and all of the more local media around the country are just too slow to react. Their commentary strategy is just to spout cliches (yelling gooooool, etc). I would say that might change, but with ESPN losing the WC rights, I doubt they spend much time learning the game (or even reporting it).

The EPL isn't my favorite league, but I think it is the easiest for Americans to get into. For the most part, they despise diving, love physical play and play at a extremely high pace. Plus, if you get NBC Sports, you can watch every game live, either on NBC, NBC Sports or streaming (or on the last day of the season, on CNBC, MSNBC, USA, etc).

Do you know what network covers the German league?

Idk man, I'm gonna get more into club soccer because of this WC. All my friends are the same way right now, hell the 2010 olympics is how I got into hockey now I can't get enough of it.

sometimes all it takes is that one bit of fuel to start a wildfire. I always had been around Soccer growing up in Mexican household (aside from my white mom haha) but in 2009 I was convinced to attend a Timbers match. I've been absolutely in love ever since! Come check out PTFC sometime, you wont be sorry!

Did you read the article from about a month back about Belgium's youth set up? It was a really in depth look at how their coach totally revamped their system. Obviously, it's paying dividends now. Due to the size of the US, it isn't really replicable, but hopefully Klinsmann looks at some of the pros from their system and tries to implement it here. One thing that has to change is pay to play. I know it is getting better with he MLS youth teams, so that gives me some hope.

I missed that article. But yeah size of US Athlete is the difference. I really want everything structured like Germany (before Klinnsman even) they are the only similar Athlete IMO. Youth system in America is still a ways off, but thankfully they are starting to realize that its the lifeblood of the National team, and its foundation of Domestic leagues.

My biggest problems with soccer is when people say things like 'set piece' and "Belgium are' and 'nil' and 'Brazilian side' with an American accent.

Sounds so fucking pretentious...

GolTV I think which sucks cause cant really get that easily. Which sucks, Bundesliga would probably be the most fun for me to watch.

Damn, Dish doesn't get that channel :/ I wanted to watch Bayern... I REALLY like Muller and they have Green so I'd like to see him grow and blossom.

People in Belgium are laughing at your TV set, piece of crap that it is. On the Brazilian side of the Atlantic, people think Nilla Wafers are tasty.

barfo

goltb is bein now, and they dont cover the bundesliga. only la liga, seria a and some of the championship

No, Bein isn't GolTV. They just out bid them on some of the leagues, most importantly La Liga, GolTV once had. And because of that, GolTV is dying. Not sure who owns GolTV, but BeIn is Al Jazeera.

ah okay. i dont even see goltv on comcast guide anymore

BeIn... Kay Murray *Drools*

I think a lot of companies have dropped them. I know for Cox down here in San Diego, it's only available in the Spanish language package. And you only get the Spanish version of the channel. They really should either somehow get on more cable companies, do some sort of online subscription that doesn't require cable or just give up and sell the rights to BeIn, ESPN, Fox or NBC.

ah okay. thats why i thought they merged. not to mention it seems like they have the same presentation (beIN and goltv)

Case in point regarding the media/ESPN's lagging when it comes to good soccer coverage. Here is an article (it might be fixed by the time anyone clicks the link) where they talk about Howard passing the torch to our backup (and nearly as good) goalie, Brad Duzan.

http://www.espnfc.com/league-name/story/1928812/headline

Howard told The Dan Patrick Show that he sees himself passing the torch to Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Duzan, but repeated that he was not sure about his own plans for 2018.

"Duzan is a top Premier League goalkeeper, his talent is incredible," Howard said. " I don't know [about retirement]. It's a good question. I can barely see next week. I have no idea what that looks like."

Once is a typo. Twice is not knowing who the guy is. This is like Travis Outlaw having Bo Outlaw's picture for half a season, except Guzan is one of the best goalies in the EPL who only isn't a regular with the USMNT because he's behind one of the best goalies in the world.

Holy crap!! I thought Guzan was 35 like Howard for some reason. Maybe was getting mixed up with Hannehman or something (even though hes older)

Good to know of a good GK to take over, even though Howard obviously still has it.

Wonder if they think they have a guy for down the road beyond that even, like hoping Hamid or Johnson grow to a really high level.

I know there are some young guys out there that are pretty good. I can't remember their names, but it wasn't Johnson or Hamid. If Guzan played this WC, I don't think we would have seen much of a drop off. He's nearly as good as Howard. Plus, he's bald, so you know that means good things for a USMNT goalie!

yeah I'm struggling to think of any other young names other than those two. I'll see what I can find. Cause its gonna bug me all day if I dont lol

also... Nagbe is 2018 please!

I've never seen any of these players, or even really heard of them, but I think this is where I saw it.

Cody Cropper (Southhampton)
Jacole Turner (Atletico)
Zack Steffen (Maryland, from Union academy)

Others predict Johnson too. Who knows. Of those 3, one is in college and 2 are barely over 20. 4 years is a long time. It could very well be none of the above.

so far most common name I'm finding is Cody Cropper

oh way better info from you lol thanks

Haha, I lurk on that board a lot. A lot of bickering, but a lot of good info too (kind of like here, but with a ton more posters). The Yanks Abroad board is where I first heard of Mix, who actually posts fairly regularly.

He's got another 18 months or so before he is eligible, right? That'd be great for the Nats and Timbers.

I think sometime next year yeah. But on a Club level I'm saddened cause I think thats the only thing thats keeping him in MLS too.

Big Soccer right? I used to lurk there a bit but never was a ton of PTFC talk there. Always seemed to be some bad blood with them and SCUSA forum which was all PTFC (since closed RIP)

Steffen was the less mentioned name, but I need to see this Atletico guy thanks!
