Agreed, yeah often these institutions just want to protect the institution and that can enable people abusing the system while harming others.

In this case though I think there will be so much independent media looking into that detective the police department won't be able to just sweep this under the rug.

People in law enforcement can easily make six figures, often without much education. I don't know if you define that as rich or not.

Having a job where you can use your power to fabricate an event, break policy and procedure, while possibly causing harm to someone who is undeserving, yet still keep your job is a wealth of job security like few have!
