The Cleveland Indians were originally originally the Forrest Citys, the Naps, and the Spiders. In 1913, Louis Sockalexis, the first Native American to play baseball passed away, and the team was renamed the Indians in his honor.
The Cubs were called the Colts and the Orphans, then a newspaper writer called them the Cubs, and it stuck.
