Thank you very much! I read the entire Snopes article, and it was illuminating, to say the least.

They're very good at pointing out minor flaws in certain "facts," and even disproving outright myths. Yet I find it very interesting that they do everything they can to undermine the idea that Christian principles played a role in the founding of this nation--and they ignore anything that contradicts their point of view.

For example, they ignore the fact that while the frieze on the top of the Supreme Court includes many different lawgivers, Moses sits right in the middle of the group, thus occupying the most important and significant position. You would think that if Snopes was truly interested in presenting the truth, and not just attacking a certain point of view, that they would in all fairness point this out. But they don't.

Their entire argument is meant to attack a point of view--not to present a balanced picture. I will keep this in mind the next time anyone directs me to Snopes.com to "disprove" something.

First of all, the first 3 of those ideas represent "large government"- are you sure you are really in support of those?
There are certain essential roles for the federal government. One of them is providing for the national defense, which requires an army, navy, air force, and marines. If that's "large government," then I'm all for it. No single state can be responsible for protecting us from our enemies, and guarding our national integrity. That's a very legitimate role for the federal government.
