Worthington gets 60-days

Carl Brent Worthington was escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs this afternoon after being sentenced to 60 days in jail and five years probation for failing to provide adequate medical care for his 15-month-old daughter.

Defense attorney Mark Cogan, who had asked the judge for no jail time, described himself as "stunned" after the sentencing. According to Oregon sentencing guidelines, Cogan argued, a first-degree criminal mistreatment conviction calls for a sentence of 90 days - and many defendants are sentenced for even fewer days. Worthington was convicted of second-degree criminal mistreatment.
