I went to work one day in a very excited mood. Everyone asked why I was so excited and I told them that I only had sex once a year. Once a year? they exclaimed. Why are you excited about that? Tonight's the night. Tonight's the night I retorted in a loud voice.
 
By the way, this November will be 40 for me. I think she deserves something special after four decades so I'm ordering the jumbo side of fries with her Big Mac on our special day.

It is awesome! Being retired doesn't mean stop working ..it just means you work when you want at whatever you want... like Marz built his boat..I have many interests and hobbies. ...If you're done chasin' the dollar, it's a blast...you want to go fishing, you just go fishing....want to see the grandkids...just go see them. I'm busier now than when I had a job. Kids are all raised, home paid for, just going with the flow...finally really get to enjoy Oregon and take the time doing it. Wife and I just got a pair of kayaks to start paddling around the rivers with.

He owns a few businesses and is the CFO of a couple others and also spends a lot of time investing. From his conversations with me if he retires he would sell off all the businesses I dont want, and make room for others, he has a lot of people who his companies employ and in his word view it would be irresponsible for him to only work part time and make decisions that could cost people their jobs. He’s kind of slowly making the transition by hiring guys and grooming them to take his place. I just think in his mind he’s worried that he’ll end up being bored, he’s one of those guys that has worked really hard his whole life.

I think my girls getting older and my brother dying last year has really made him start thinking about how he can make sure he pours his life into his family instead of his work.

He’s got very bad eyesight too, so he cant drive and I think he’s scared he’ll end up just moping around his house as me and his grandkids forget about him. We wont, but I get it, its gonna be hard for him to strike a balance.

Anyways this is not my family history thread this is oldmangrouch’s anniversary thread, he’s been married much longer than Ive been alive heh. :)

The key to this is not being overly defined about yourself....learn a language...do things outside the box of decades of routine...a lot of numbers crunchers volunteer to help seniors with taxes and things...volunteer at a library running a book sale...etc...learn to play the piano.learn salsa dancing..learn to golf...endless. Catch up on reading great literature. My daughter in laws father retired just after I did...we're the same age. He was worried about getting bored but six months into his retirement he's found a girlfriend, traveled to Mexico, done a ton of stuff....he told me, I was right...it wasn't something to worry about anymore

Im sure he’ll figure it out. I would find it absolutely hilarious if he found a new girlfriend though, my mom would beat the crap out of him. :biglaugh:

Did you notice what I noticed? Spending your father's time and going on vacations with him does not include you. Uh oh. This means your kids are more appealing than you are. Double uh oh.

Whew, I got tired just reading all the things you suggest. But your description lacks a time and a place for drinking beer and taking a long nap. Better sharpen your pencil and revise that list.

Next time read the post after your long nap Lanny! Being as it's my second childhood, like my first, I don't drink any booze at all......didn't need it then, sure don't now! Naps are another hobby I forgot to list....good catch!

nope......not a drop! but I never was a beer guy...red wine, irish whiskey, single malt scotch, Canadian rye or brandy were my preferred choices but if I did have a beer it would be a guiness and lager half and half....a black and tan they call them...I passed the alcohol lifetime quota already....enjoyed every bit of it

I'm gonna have a quality red wine, probably a cabernet sauvignon with a one inch thick Wagyu NY steak tomorrow night. My wife's gonna fry some fresh mushrooms in butter on the side and then because I'm tired of baked potato, gonna go with some pickled whole beets that will be in the refrigerator over night. Had a choice of grilled asparagus but chose the beets because I haven't had them in a long time. Some nice turnip greens would be great but our favorite turnip green cannery no longer cans them and the other company just isn't up to snuff. It's got the perfect marbling and a great amount of fat around the outside which I love to burn over our natural hardwood charcoal
Yes, an evening at home with the wife.
In days past I would have had an ice cold Tsing Tao while grilling but I can't tolerate that much alcohol anymore. In face I"ll only have one or maybe, if it's really good, two glasses of red.
Just picked out the red. A 2016 Catena Malbec from Argentina. I'm looking forward to that so it's almost a certain two glasses and who knows, 3?
