Speculation seems to be that the Lakers will likely try to land an established player rather than draft an unknown. I'm sure the #2 pick in a 2-player draft has more value than the second-best player on a 5-seed, but CJ certainly fits Dame's timeline better than Brandon Ingram does.

Of course I know it's not happening, but that's not relevant to the hypothetical. If it were a straight-up deal, would you make that trade?

no.

You have a 20 PPG scorer who plays two positions and is a proven 3point threat and who can create his own shot.

There's no guarantee at all that a draft pick will ever be as good.

Is Crabbe good enough for the 2 position in the starting lineup? If yes it might be a tempting gamble. Ingram is the kind SF the Blazers need. It's not happening though.

Somebody will end up being better than CJ.....I just don't know which one.
I was impressed with Ingram, but my guess he will go #1.
Simmons and Brown might end being great, but I can't say for certain until they have a consistent jump shot.
Chris Dunn will be good, but I like our current PG.
I saw Buddy Hield in person destroy my Ducks, but he is not close to being as good as CJ.
Murray.....no
Poeltl....no way
Bender....I have no idea

FUCK no. Regardless of how it impacts our team, CJ's WAY too good a guy to saddle with Puce and Bile stains.

I don't see why they'd do it. They have very few good young players, but two of them are tweener scoring guards - Russell and Clarkson.

I was wondering last night if New Orleans and Philly would trade Anthony Davis for the #1 and Okafor. Almost makes sense. (Then Philly throws a max contract at Mike Conley.)

Simmons man... that guy looked like LeBron before he lost interest. Still can't understand why people are talking up Ingram all that much.

I said yes. "No" if Simmons goes 1 and only Ingram is available.

No.

Simmons is going to be a millennial version of Carmello Anthony mixed with Rudy Gay.

In what way? Both of those guys are scorers. Simmons has better handles and can create. He's got PG skills with PF size.

I don't think many GM's have kept their job after trading an proven NBA player for a pick. Unless they were going into full rebuild mode...

Agree with this. The team that likely might have done it would have been PHI if they dropped to 2 or 3.

In response to the poll question, I would answer "no". But I think BGD touches on an interesting aspect: Crabbe. We have a guy who may fit better alongside Damian, or at least not be a major downgrade. At least, it's been something that people here have questioned. What I think makes this more interesting is the team's future payroll - CJ is going to get MAX. But Crabbe will probably get around $10m/year, and the draftee will be on a rookie contract. Given the financial implications, is it possible that the trade could net us:

Crabbe giving us 80% of CJ's production at 40% the cost
Potential Star in Ingram/Simmons
Cap Space to sign another major player

Again, given the successful season we just had, it's not something we can afford to gamble on. But as a hypothetical it's interesting.

More of a mindset/motivation type thing. Probably mentally weak.

This exactly.

Why do we keep posting threads like this? Seriously, when I get a paper cut..... you gunna poor salt on it for me?
I was thinking lemon juice, but whichever you prefer.

Not unless they didn't answer the phone

At that point you are guaranteed Simmons or Ingram, and while I really like CJ, and think he is a damn good player, those two have a chance to be special, and if you are a team like Portland, who doesn't attract a lot of "special" FA's, then you have to swing for the fences. IMHO, worst case scenario is you get a player that will be as good as CJ is right now in a year. It may not pay off in year 1, but I think overall it would be best for the franchise

Im not sold on Ingram yet. I could be totally but there something that I cant put my finger on that makes me cautious about him.

It's playing with fire. The top two guys definitely have hire ceilings than CJ, but CJ is a proven scorer and team first kind of guy.

Now I'd trade anyone in any combination outside of Dame+CJ for the number 2 but that's not the question and unrealistic.

Thinking of Ingram on this team would be DOPE.

No. Let me know if you have any more questions.
