Wow...anyone hear what quick said about Oden on the fan?

Then again, Oden has had a 20-10 game this season and Bynum hasn't. Woohoo!

what is a bust are all these downer threads everyday a new one??? seriously like before I am questioning someones loyality too the team and wondering if someone isnt Cannedhamzano.....

I pray that he's not a bust. But so far, he doesn't have the earmarks of a HOFer.

This sums up Kingspeed perfectly...there is no middle ground with him.

Let's keep it real for a moment. He gets stripped and blocked a lot. He has very little personality on the court as someone said. The great centers came out and dominated from the get go. Granted, they didn't have a year off beforehand but let's not forget that Oden was underwhelming in summer league BEFORE the surgery. I pray that he's not a bust. But so far, he doesn't have the earmarks of a HOFer.

So because he doesn't have the "earmarks of a HOFer" then he alternately must have the "earmarks of a bust"? Go back and look at what Dwight Howard did his rookie season. He didn't come out and average 20 and 10 as a rookie. It takes big men some time to adjust to the NBA game.

Oden gets stripped and blocked a lot because he isn't used to playing against NBA talent big men. It's something he'll have to adjust to.

Dwight Howard didn't come in and dominate. You could argue Oden came in just as raw as Howard, even with the year in college, with even more obstacles in his way like MF and a year off from playing any basketball + being in terrible shape.

Oden went to college for 1 year...but he missed the first part of the season if I remember, and he only played with one hand. How much can you really work on your game with one hand?

Idk. He'll be fine eventually.

Dwight had a great rookie season. Came right of the gate playing very well. Averaged a double double.

Calm down guys. I hope Greg plays well. I definitely see the upside. I just thought I'd say what hasn't been said- that he might be a bust. Who knows? We'll see. I'm behind him 100%.

"The great centers come in and dominate from the get go"

Dwight Howard didn't dominate. He played great for a rookie. He also averaged 32 minutes a game. I'd argue if Greg could avg that many minutes, their numbers would be pretty similar.

I have to say that Oden has all the earmarks of a bust. We're all afraid to say it but it might be true. I hope it's not true. I really really hope it's not true. But so far, it doesn't look good.

Dude you really are bi-polar aren't you? He's single handedly changed our team from being the worst defensive team in the league to the 7th best. How is that a bust? Even if he never improves offensively, which isn't likely, he has already made a pretty significant impact and this is coming off a pretty major surgery.

It depends on what you would classify as a bust Eric. If Oden isn't a HOFer, is he a bust? I will probably always look at Durant's numbers and wonder, what if?

Why doesn't Greg average more minutes?

Because he's not in prime game shape coming off a year of not playing basketball. That and I'm sure they're trying to take it easy on his knee, and not rushing him too fast.

Helps Przybilla gives you quality minutes as well.

Oden can put up numbers already...it's just all about consistency. That's what rookies go through in their first NBA season. Anyone can have a great game, but it's all about learning to do it game after game after game.

The thing is.... he wasn't the #10 pick. He was the #1 pick who was heralded as the best center to come into this league in 16 years so with that, the expectations are higher and you must play better basketball to not be considered a bust. I mean, Kwame and Darko are playing decent ball but they didn't live up to their expectations.

But like I said, calm down. I was just playing devil's advocate for a moment.

Surprise! They actually do. In 8.5 minutes less, Greg averages 4 points and 2 rebounds less than Dwight Howard, while actually averaging more blocks per game, and this is while playing 8.5 minutes less. The numbers will change but people are far too instant gratitification obsessed.

Calm down. I'm not the enemy. I love Oden. I wish he played more. I want him to dominate. Forget everything I said.

Yes, but Eric this isn't a new thing for you. You're always making sensationalistic statements. You are the Bill Walton of this forum community. Someone is either the greatest thing ever, or they're a bust.

We're comparing Greg to Kwame and Darko? Kwame and Darko are playing decent, and Greg's playing like a bust? oh god....:smiley-puke:

Calm down. I'm on your side.

Ok we will let it slide this time. LOL
But seriously you have to put things in perspective. We are playing well because we have two strong centers in
on the team. That means one good one at all times. A defensive presence in the middle (regardless of his stats) is huge. Which is one of the answers to your other thread about last year.

Greg is playing very well right now. He is a little bummed because he is getting ripped for stupid reasons. He has a long career ahead of him.

I'd have to disagree. He's shown he has the tools and skill, now he just needs to get back in shape and get his confidence. 1/4 into a players 1st season is way too soon to call a player a bust, unless they are just showing a complete lack of skill.

Calm down. I'm on your side.

Obviously you are allowed to criticized/analyze Oden and him game but you just always take it to the extremes on whichever side you take...thats why you are getting so much crap from everyone

I never called Greg Oden a bust, but everyone is acting like I did. The problem with the internet is that you can't hear tone of voice.
