Wow... Dwight Jaynes kills Roy..and Roy deserves it

Well, get ready for that number to DECREASE. Andre Miller is the one player on this team that actually gets the ball to Greg Oden in the low post - and now he's been demoted and all the fingers are pointing at HIM as the source of all the Blazers problems.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with Dwight Jaynes (but I said it last week, too before his column came out). The problem with the 3 guard line-up is NOT Andre Miller - it's forcing Brandon Roy (and Steve Blake) to play out of position. We have yet to see if Roy and Miller can co-exist as a starting backcourt. The big assumption is they can't - I'd like to see that assumption validated (or disproven) by letting them actually start together for a few games and see how it works out.

If not, look for Greg to have a lot of games where he get's 4 - 5 FGA per game - mostly off putbacks, because if there is one thing that HAS been proven, last season and this one so far, it's that neither Blake nor Roy can/will feed Oden the ball in the low post.

BNM

That is flat out untrue. Watch the third quarter of the last game against Minnesota. Blake REPEATEDLY got the ball to Oden, often two or three times in the same possession. Post, re-post, etc. Blake basically created all of Oden's offense in that game. He penetrated and dished and set up Oden so well that all Oden had to do was finish wide open dunks. It is a MYTH that Blake can't and won't feed the ball to Oden in the post. A total myth.

Just looking at Oden's game log real quick.

In the 5 games before the 3 guard lineup, Oden didn't attempt more than 6 shots in any game.

In the 9 games with the 3 guard lineup, Oden attempted 8 or more shots in 7 of the 9 games.

Hmm

One good thing is Oden attempted 9 shots last game so maybe the whole team is looking for him more. We'll see how it goes tonight.

And Blake had 9 assists, most of them to Oden. That third quarter was a masterpiece for Blake. He repeatedly got the ball to Oden and got him going. Then he got Webster going and made sure Webster got the ball in spots where he could succeed (which shot Webster's confidence through the roof and had him play well the rest of the game). Then he got Rudy going. And finally, he turned the ball over to Roy who got himself going. And we pulled away from a game that had been too close for comfort. Unfortunately, I think most of you were watching the Ducks during that quarter.

and who is to blame for that I wonder? I mean the only two guys who I see CONSISTENTLY look to set up Oden in the post are Rudy & Miller, I am not convinced that Blake even knows he is on the team...
?

That is utter bullshit. You obviously do not watch the games.

No...they are over the last five games (not counting tonight...another great Blake performance)...nice try though...and quite frankly all you would have to do is WATCH the games to realize that Miller has played better than Blake....

I guess you missed the Minnesota game or you don't watch very closely.

This from Mr. Hyperbole himself? Please... What I saw and what I commented on was 100% correct, maybe you ought to pay attention more?

:dunno:

Roy got what he wanted, his $80 million dollar contract. He will not play as hard as he did before this season, that's a fact it's all about him and his offensive scoring output and he has been lazy on defense this season, he's putting minimal effort on the defensive end.

Roy: Steals per game: 06-07 1.20
07-08 1.10
08-09 1.10
09-10: 0.30?? WTF

Defending SFs for most of the season = Roy being lazy. WTF?

This is why you are a joke....and I don't just mean for your wacky conspiracy theories or Sergio man crush....

WAY WAY off base analysis, but I guess I shouldn't expect anything else from you....typical...

Wow, nice rebuttal.

I like how you back it up with stats, facts, and a general description of why you think Blake is not more versatile than Miller.

Quality posting.

Unemployed hack has-been Dwight "Big tub of goo" Jaynes is firing blanks as usual.

Roy is a far better player than Miller, and a far better PG than Miller, so Roy starts.

Blake is a far more versatile player than Miller, can spread the court unlike Miller, and can play very well without the ball unlike Miller, so Blake starts.

Finally, after 11 seasons of playing on lousy teams with lousy players who made him look good, Miller is exposed as an average player with severe limitations in his offensive game and no defensive game at all.

He better learn some humility or he'll soon find himself in Jaynes's shoes.

Right ... uh, wait?! What?

Let me see if I can run through this. Miller was made to look good by playing with lousy players on lousy teams? Makes perfect sense. Thanks for once again illuminating us poor, dumb bastards who don't know anything about hoops.

Fuck Dwight Jaynes. There is a reason he doesn't have a job.

Quality posting.

Um....about a 1000 times better than your average post.....

Scoring, assists, rebounds, FG%, free throw attempts, getting other players involved besides Brandon Roy...I mean I could show you numbers, but I shouldn't have to b\c if you actually paid attention to such things while watching a game you could EASILY see it....

but I guess I shouldn't be surprised that some people here are clueless when it comes to basketball...

No. You're 100% wrong. Blake is the one getting easy baskets for Oden. Not Miller.

Are you on drugs or something? drinking perhaps?

Wow....

Oden said it was Miller who planted a seed in his mind to attack.

"He's a big breath of fresh air for me," Oden said. "When he comes into the game, he's like, 'G.O., we are going to run a play for you so you can try to get the other big man in foul trouble.' That definitely puts a big smile on my face. I turned my head and had a big smile."

Quote below is from another board and a more TRUE observation of who Oden is benefiting most from......as someone pointed out in another thread on this board it isn't just who gets the assist that tell the FULL STORY but who is generating opportunities\touches\passing attempts....

Like I said to you before, anyone who knows a thing or two about basketball would understand this...so it is not surprising that you and "another" grossly uninformed poster do not....

from CHI game....
To be fair, most of Greg's production was from Miller and Rudy's passes. Even in a huge game like last night, this is what I counted in terms of where Greg's touches in scoring area came from:

Webster: 1 pass
Roy: 1 Pass
Blake: 2 passes
LA: 3 passes
Rudy: 4 passes
Miller: 7 passes

This wasn't an isolated incident, either. It's a recurring pattern for this team and I really don't have an answer for this. Likely, some of it has to do with Blake and Roy's lack of comfort in making entry passes into the low block.

LIES!!!!!! Just kidding. Yes some in this forum believe the stat sheets are the end all of what really happens in the game. Scouts watch games because they can't scout off of "Box Scores" or "Transcripts". They have to watch the game in person and see the flow of the game. When you get fouled shooting, it doesn't tell you he was fouled because Miller threaded the needle for Oden to get the ball deep in the paint. Good post and great analogy from whomever posted that in another board.

I don't understand. You say stats aren't the end all be all, yet Blaze uses his own form of stats to prove his case?

I'm pretty sure most posters here watch the games, we just have differnt opinions, that happens in sports. But for me to say Blake does get Oden the ball, I am met with no he doesn't. So the only thing left is to go to stats or say, yes he does again.

Would you please stop being reasonable!? :dunno:
