The mental aspect of wrestling is huge, and requires literally years to understand for anyone to have success. Someone like AJ Styles could survive in another sport much easier than an NBA player could in the ring. As for wrestling being "fake"; it's not. Of course moves, punches, etc are designed to be as safe as possible most of the time, but it's still very physical and destroys the human body. If moves weren't "worked", and that is the proper term, careers would be awfully short. Wrestling is the most physically demanding thing I've ever heard of for several reasons. The biggest reason is that it's effect on the body is unparalelled. The big time workers perform year round and at most get a week off unless they're injured or have a special contract. Back in the 80's and 90's it was common for talent to be on the road 300 days out of the year. This causes ther body to break down because it has little or no time to heal. Football players get a week off between games, half the winter, and almost all of the spring to recouperate. Pro wrestlers perform with serious injuries all the time. Kurt Angle wrestled against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 19 while in need of a neck fusion surgery. Thet'd never happen in any sport. He risked permanent paralysis in that match. Perry Saturn, Edge, and others have performed with torn ACL or MCL tendons in their knee. Mick Foley suffered countless injuries in matches but always managed to finish them. He wrestled with a torn adbominal muscle, the exact same injury the ended Bill Goldberg's football career. He also worked through countless concussions, broken bones, and even having his ear ripped off his skull.

I guess this turned into a fake or not discussion. My stance is the same as Justice. I think there's a realness to the bumps wrestlers take and the toll over the years. But there is the aspect of it being fake at times. And it's true, I'm not going to defend that it's 100% real. Because that's just being naive. As for inferno matches being thrown around as it not being faked. I think that's one of the fake portions of the wrestling world. Why? Not because of the flames obviously but the fact there not going to actually put someone in harm's way of flames. Notice how the finishes towards the matches end with a wrestler being set on a fire in a safe spot. It's similar to saying wrestling isn't fake because wrestlers blade themselves. Too gimmicky.

WWE.com calls the Inferno match "possibly the sickest of all WWE matches."</div>

As I've said before, wrestling is theatrical. It is not a sport; it is entertainment. However, there is nothing fake about the injuries and the bodily breakdown that occur to those who participate in it. Now if everyone arguing for wrestling would please do me a favor and stop bringing up the damn inferno match. It is possibly the worst match type ever devised. Wrestling is supposed to be entertaining, but it also needs to have some sense of reality so that we can suspend our disbelief. The inferno match basically kills reality in one swoop because nobody in their right mind would compete in a contest that could end in their death. No promotion would ever intentionally kill it's stars with a gimmick match like that. We all know nobody is actually going to burn for more than a few seconds maximum. This is much different than a real situation because if the inferno match were real one or both guys would be completely engulfed very quickly. The inferno matches themselves more often than not suck and look completely "fake". If you want to see real brutality in a match that is actually good check out some old school Sabu or Cactus Jack from ECW or Japan. I personally suggest Hayabusa from the FMW promotion. Click the link below to see the unbelievable Electrified Barbed Wire Cage Exploding Ring Deathmatch between Hayabusa & Atsushi Onita.

I hate scripted competitions and I hate how all the punches and kicks and take downs look extremely fake. It's just a bunch of idiots juiced up on roids, throwing themselves around and getting hurt. It's an insult to all the other sports to call WWE a sport or professional wrestling. I like to see people beating up on each other but only if it's real punches or using real moves in real wrestling...it's just funny to me to see those guys hurt themselves and they look so dumb doing this stuff probably because they couldn't make it in any real sport they even played or were too dumb to get a real job. They don't gain any respect in my book by throwing themselves off a cage for show. I like some of the chicks on there but some of them are also too roidy for me, nasty sh*t.

As pointed out in the post above, Brock Lesnar is a two time NCAA amateur wrestling champion. Kurt Angle was the 1996 Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medalist. Kauyuki Fujita is a former IWGP Champion and is currently one of the best heavyweights in the world fighting in PRIDE.As for intelligence, Mick Foley is a New York Times Bestselling Author while Tank Johnson is probably going to prison for having 1001 guns in his kitchen. Just like in real sports wrestling has it's share of dumbasses and highly intelligent people.

What Eric Bischoff had to deal with off stage was definitely not scripted, if anybody watched the Monday Night War would know. Goldberg's another wrestler whose played for the Falcons before.Might I add Ken Shamrock who wrestles in UFC and that type of fighting.

Too gimmicky.</div>Thank God you have some sense. The point was not to say that there is nothing to admire about wrestlers. They are very strong, durable, and it is a very demanding sport. You can call what they do being "worked" or "scripted" or whatever, but those are just euphemisms for it being fake to an extent. The point that I made is just being agreed with, in my opinion. If you say, "Well, of course some of it is worked so that the wrestlers have longer careers," then you are agreeing with me in every sense.Yeah, okay, people have gotten injured in matches. Athletes have gotten injured slamming their foot in a door, too. Are you telling me there should be a slamming your opponent's foot in the door match? Let's be realistic. Flames can be dangerous, but they are way more controllable than most other matches, like I said.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (LAZY @ Jan 17 2007, 10:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>The only one that comes to mind is Chyna, and idk she is real or fake. It's not physically possible... unless she's like a hermaphrodite or something.

College sports, I'm talking about pro so you named a couple that's cool. I was just in a bad mood I guess. Wrestling isn't that bad. A few of the episodes I've watched have been pretty funny and enjoyable.

I do agree that most either can't play another sport such as football anymore due to injury, or they are just too old to do so. Case in point: Brock Lesnar.

To everyone and anyone who sits there and says "Wrestling is fake".... No f*cking sh*t! So is practically everything shown on TV (no, the "Real World" is NOT Real friends!), as well as movies! It's all FAKE! I love wrestling, I hate the WWE. I love independant wrestling, as well as TNA.

I said "so is practically everything else" I didn't say EVERYTHING, I think we can make these deductions on our own without your smart-f*cking-ass pointing them out to make a weak point. Not everything in/about wrestling is "fake" either. It's not an "insult" to say wrestling is fake, when the same people who're are trying to discredit wrestling by saying so, are the same ones who sit there and watch/believe "Reality TV" when it's anything BUT real.

I think that's a pretty strong point, as I gave many examples and have many others, if you'd like to hear them. If you can make simple deductions like that, perhaps you shouldn't say things that are completely contrary to those deductions. And thank you, I am smart.
