All we did all forth quarter was run screens around the three point line!! I did not see one f**king cut to the basket. The Suns just pushed us further and further out. That's on stouts and no one else. And we choke under pressure now. First round exit guarantee!!! Stotts needed to move away from his system and bang down low with Lopez and Aldridge all game and punish them for playing small. Put Batum at the two and Robinson at the three and score in the paint. Stop settling for threes that you cannot make under pressure!!!!

Not sure how that lineup would have fared defensively.

you are correct. Lots of foul trouble. My point is we just need to go inside against phoenix. There is no excuse for larmarcus not banging like he was against memphis. Maybe he hurt his butt again.

We tried to beat them at there game three times in a row and barely won once. My point is why continue with the same strategy

Good call on the offensive strategy for Portland. Phoenix knew exactly what was coming and defended it perfectly.

Hou/LAC will have this offense figured out by game 3

I'm just not excited for the playoffs as I don't see a scenario where Portland wins

I've always been an outspoken critic of Aldridge's deep jumpers. It almost seems like a sign of laziness.

I don't think it's a sign of laziness. I think he settles when the defender won't let him get into the paint. He SHOULD pass the fucking ball if he can't establish good position, but instead he just jacks it up. It's poor judgement, not laziness.

Then he should go stand 10 feet from the hoop, watch Lopez fight to deflect the opponent's shot, and take the uncontested rebound to bolster his stats.

When the guards amble away from LA, leaving him with no good angle to pass out of the inevitable double team, there's not much he can do. It's like our opponents have all passed geometry, but our guards haven't.

He's not a good passer, and his teammates probably know it. If I've noticed anything, it's that players recognize when they're playing with a good passing big man and they usually take advantage. LA is not a good passing big man. This could also be part of Stotts' offense because there's a ton of standing around when LA has the ball.

I call BS on this. Aldridge can go into beast mode where he is attacking the rim, and then you see other times that he just disappears.
I cant count how many times over the year that Aldridge could have established deep post position, but he never fights to maintain it. He lets himself get pushed out to the 12-15 foot range time after time after time....

I call bullshit. Lamarcus has a terrific sense of when to shoot and when to pass. It's not his fault if his teammates aren't doing what he thinks they should be doing...

Then start watching arena football.

People are finally starting to see this? I've been commenting on this for weeks (months?) now. It happens in nearly every 4th quarter. And yes, it IS on Stotts. Also, it's on the OFFENSIVE side of the floor - the only side of the floor he's suppose to be good on. And yet, he's not that good if after months of seeing the same thing happen he can't figure out how to counter it. The Playoffs are going to be a mess for him.

Defense was our problem, not offense. We didn't stop the ball in transition. We let them get to the hoop almost every time. Disgusting.

I bolded the part that I see happening a lot.

Damian entry passes into LA, then runs back towards the top of the 3-point line, singles for Nic to come behind him, but they're barely moving, almost walking. All the while LA is trying to jockey for a shot but yesterday just choked.

It would be a lot better if we had cutters, etc, but the scenario I wrote above happens more often than not.

Start t rob at pf move la to sf and batum to sg. Bring matthews off bench. T rob is a fantastic passer. Aldridge can hit 3s we can pack in the d in the paint with 3 huge guys. Trob might have to play 3 on d cause aldridge cant d

I agree. Lack of transition defense and second chance points was the Blazers downfall last night.

Bummed with Aldridge not having a strong game. Ended up getting to the Moda Center really early yesterday (drinking plans fell through). Aldridge and Wright were out there early getting their shots in. Aldridge was money and could not miss (Wright made a lot of shots but nothing like Aldridge).

The good news is at least now LMA will get his fingernails clipped.

We're not going to do any drastic lineup changes this close to the end of the season.

I'm always amazed at how much smarter posters here are than actual NBA coaches. Ya'll are undefeated!

He just had 6 assists the previous game, and many open threes originate from LMA passing out to the perimeter when double-teamed, and then the ball rotates to the open shooter. Get the fuck out of here with this weak shit. It's nonsense.

they have certainly not been very inspiring with their games against high end competition the last few months. not sure how overmatched they will be in the playoffs, but i can still see them winning a series or two, they just need to believe. when they are playing loose i think they have a great chance in a 7 game series or four

Phoenix wanted last night's game more than Portland did. They were playing for their season, to some degree, and Portland just needs a win or two to make the playoffs. After 4 straight wins, it was a letdown game. It happens, and I know this is hard for some posters to believe, but even good teams lose games at times.

Phoenix is a really good defensive team and they shot the ball well. They deserve some credit for the win. We missed a lot of shots and couldn't get to the rim and finish most of the second half.

Stotts needs to adjust for specific teams. Even if its a 4 minute spurt to start the second half. Throw something other teams havent scouted. Im hoping he does this in playoffs.

As a basketball fan, but without much technical knowledge of the game, I'll still make the following observation...it seems the moment that Portland becomes "expected to win", they have the most trouble. And when the odds are stacked against them, with people spewing negative comments, they perform better.

It's as if the "chip on the shoulder" drives their performance as much as the x's and o's that everybody writes about.

This all comes back to the "mentality" of the game. When the x-facor is there (call it what you will, confidence, mo-jo, swagger, belief)....the Blazers are unstoppable. They can literrally beat anyone when this side of the team is present. But, when they get spooked, or when they have their lead contested (what was it, 10 points last night???)....it turns off like a light switch. Like a switch.

This is mental. How do you fix mental? How do you teach mental fortitude in the face of adversity?

Yes, all teams lose from time-to-time, even good ones. And yes, a true fan needs to remember the good wins, as well as the bad losses.

But how do you fix mental? How do you prevent the switch from flipping during the playoffs, when you can't even prevent it from being flipped late-in-the-game-with-a-10-point-lead in your home court (which we won't have in the playoffs).

Here's hoping for one hell-of-a-chip-on-their-shoulder to be placed soon!
