OT Wylclef Jean Detained by Police

Singer Wyclef Jean was detained by police in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, after police who were investigating a robbery at gunpoint, the suspect a black man sped away in a gold vehicle. Apparently Jean's car matched the description so the police pulled it over. Jean got out of the car hands up and tried to identify himself. According to Jean the cops did not tell him why they had stopped him, or why they were handcuffing him and that they treated him like a criminal. He was detained for six minutes. He claims racial profiling and is going to sue. What do you guys think?

Regarding Chris's question, I don't see anything out of order about the cops stopping a car matching the description of the one used in the robbery. Handcuffing and arresting him without any other evidence than him being black? Without knowing any other facts, that sounds like racial profiling to me.

I'd detaining arresting? Is handcuffing arresting? The only thing on the cops part is they didn't say why they pulled him over or why they were handcuffing him. Is it protocol to do so? Sounds like he was trying to have a conversation with them, trying to talk with about what was happening and they weren't saying anything. 6 minutes though, not a long time.

From the cops point of view the cat matches the description, as did wyclef for the description of the peep. It was a violent crime that had been committed. Would the same thing have happen for a white man? A famous white man? Is Wyclef Jean not as famous as he thinks. Maybe the cops didn't know who Wyclef Jean is?

Armed robbery? Police can cuff someone for their protection without placing them under arrest. 6 minutes seems like they figured out he wasnt the guy and let him on his way. Im willing to be cuffed for 6 minutes if it helps a police investigation fkr armed robbery. Do your thing boys thanks for cleaning our streets.

Did he expect to say hey it wasnt me and they say oh ok sorry wrong guy? It's not like they beat him. Money must be tight. Wasnt he the one that predicted a black president would immediately be assassinated? Just had one for 8 years and not even an attempt. Go race bait somewhere else.

You definitely dont want to get out of the car. Put hands on top of steering wheel and dont move around. Last time i was pulled over i put hands out window palms facing officer and stayed still until his approach. He asked if i get pulled over a lot and i said no i just know you feel safer if you can see hands. And no, my white privilege got me no where cause i still got a speeding ticket.
