Wow, Love should have been in contention with CMB and Demin. Maybe if one of those guys sits out he gets called up.

Good for Yang to make it but he has to be one of the worst nba players this year to make the rising stars team....

Yang?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seriously?

I think Yang has a chance to be a very good player. I take pretty much everything this year with a grain of salt.

But this shows you these games shouldn't be taken seriously. They picked him to get views from China, not because he earned it.

For Love not to get picked while Yang did ... I just hope Caleb doesn't hold that against Yang and create some poison in the locker room. That's more than the usual slight.

Well yeah, of course he was selected for ratings... isn't that the whole point of these games? Getting the young guys some exposure and make some bucks. Was there ever a moment you or anyone took this seriously?

They had Mac McClung in the dunk contest for the last 3 years....the NBA isn't serious about shit.
He's averaging 16-9-3.4 in 5 games (clearly they don't have a min requirement).

It's a little more egregious that Love didn't get recognition, I think he's the #8 in rookie scoring this year.

Yang is just a way to interest the big market of China. Even as a G-League player, he isn't one of the most deserving. I hope he becomes a good player and still believe in this to happen. But this is pure PR.

Love and Yang weren’t competing against each other. Yang got a G-League spot. Not a Rookie spot.

Was Tristen Newton selected for ratings? Or is it only Yang?

I think this is a case where we need to be real.

Of course they're saying he got the G-League spot. That MIGHT seem plausible if he didn't play five whole games with the Remix. He's played a third of their games. He's played more games with the Blazers.

They can say whatever they want, but this in truth only was done as a means to get Yang into the game. It was a marketing move. And everyone realizes that.

As far as Caleb, I'm not saying it will bother him. I'm not saying it won't, either. I don't know him. I'm just saying it might. Because, as we know, everyone always is willing to think calmly and rationally when they've been slighted.

Ron Harper Jr. wouldn't be in this, either, if it wasn't for Dylan Harper being in it. Now, the older Harper is putting up some great numbers with the Maine Celtics this year, but nothing says "rising star" about a guy pushing 26 years old who's averaged 2.1 points in his 18 career NBA games.

You're exactly right, although I remember a few decades ago when people did take these games seriously. But, yes, they're for marketing and maybe only marketing at this point.

The problem comes in that even if we all know that's what it's about now, we still say so-and-so is a six-time all-star like it was achieved solely on merit, so some people still are trying to suspend disbelief.

Is it bad for the Blazers if Caleb feels slighted? Could argue that's good if he feels that way.

It's not like the Blazers put Yang in the game over him.

Don't see why NBA averages matter for GLeague players.

If any of them had non horrible NBA stats they wouldn't be in the G League.

To my earlier point that of course humanity has a history of taking out anger and frustrations on the people that were the cause of the anger and frustration.

And, sure, maybe the slight fires up Caleb and it becomes positive fuel for him to play even better. That happens with some people. Not most people, but some people. He could be one of those that properly channels negative situations.

it's a sign of the times

if you followed the NFL at all this season, it was clear that Shedur Sanders was one of the worst QB's in the league. But guess who is going to be in the Pro Bowl....Sanders. It's not about merit, it's about eyeballs

same with Yang and the NBA. All of the media revenue, merchandise sales, sponsorship & partnership revenue out of China gets thrown into the BRI pot and the NBA won't waste that opportunity. Money doesn't talk, it swears

Ya, Harper is averaging like 27 ppg, 5 rpg and 4 apg on 50% fg shooting and 40% 3pt shooting. He is having a MVP type year in the g league. He just is 4 years out of the draft, so I don't know the rhyme or reason of who they pick age wise to be considered a rising star. Seems like they just chose people for best ratings that had decent numbers, and that were "somewhat young"

Thats whatever, I guess.

A strong showing in the Rising Stars game could boost Yang's campaign to win Rookie of the Year.

Well, first, it matters because it was just a part of the reason why Ron Harper Jr. didn't belong, not the entire argument.

It's saying he's had four years to find an opportunity to do something in the NBA and he hasn't done it. It's not just his scoring average. It's that he's only played 18 NBA games. And that he's in his mid-20s. And that his brother was a top-five pick and always was going to be in this game. It's all of that, so picking one thing -- albeit one thing that's a pretty good indicator that Ron Harper Jr. is not a rising NBA star -- doesn't invalidate the entire premise.

To your second sentence, this is an NBA all-star weekend. It's not a G-League all-star weekend. These guys are playing against NBA players, so that makes what they've done in the NBA ... if they've done anything in the NBA ... important.

Also, there are guys in the G-League that haven't even played in the NBA for them to have a stat footprint. Some are young and were put in the G-League by their organization to develop. Some just haven't gotten an opportunity yet. But Ron Harper Jr. doesn't fit any of those types.

G league is a chuckers league with undersized bigs. Yang has dominated the 5 spot in the handful of games I 've watched him play but he's not chucking in the G league. Javonte Cooke scored 36 for the Remix not long ago and Duop Reath once scored 38 in the G league. Han Sen isn't lookin' for his on every possession so that's a difference. Caleb would score 50 for the Remix without a sweat. Problem is, Caleb hasn't been showcased in the G league yet. Who gets votes at that level is not even on my radar. I just want Yang to play all he can this season wherever he can. Caleb has bigger fish to fry than the allstar rookie scrimmage.
