...^^^ this is some of the funniest shit I've read in awhile. So acquiring then moving a SS with poor defense to 2B is the answer and is part of Cashman's "plan"?

...getting younger at the expense of getting weaker is not a plan...and since when did money become a problem for the Yanx...are we really expected to believe that the reason Gardner is being shopped is to jettison his contract?...lmao...if that were the case, the Yanx would be shopping Ellsbury instead of Gardner.

...here's an idea, if Gardner is to be traded, why not trade him for a player that can actually make an impact?...like maybe a solid RHed bat?

I hear ya- but in Ellsbury's case I think his contract is an obstacle, personally speaking, I think he is a better player than Gardy and although Ells appears to be one of those guys who gets "injured" I would kinda accept it if we can get 145? games out of him.
Agree Yanks need a solid RH bat and money isnt a "problem", but I actually do believe they won't give out any huge longer term contracts for the time being unless the player is in his mid 20s?....especially to pitchers.
Speaking of pitchers- Wein-Yin Chen is a good LHSP who is effective vs LHB a nice thing to have at Yankee Stadium.
He's looking for 5 years (75 mil?), he'll be 31 in July which will bring him to age 35 - and it will cost the Yanks a draft pick.

What's your opinion on Chen?

With CC situation up in the air we need a solid lefty starter, I'd be okay with Chen. But not for those years or that salary. He only earned 4.75M this past season so if I'm the Yankees I'm offering 4 years at $40M TOPS!

...lol...it's been rumored that the "plan" is to get younger and cut payroll...so with that in mind, we trade Gardner then turn around and sign a 30+ year old Chen to a multi year deal worth even more than Gardner's, AND forfeit a draft pick?

...wow, I have no words.

I don't think the "market" for Chen is 10 mil per season, it's higher and there wont be ANY team eventually signing him for 10 mil per, imo. Regardless of last year's salary, his free agent market value will be based on performance.
He's been healthy, averaged 188 IP, 3.44 ERA past two seasons/ 3.72 career ERA pitching at Camden Yards.

I would go four (not five) years with him.....and I'm not thrilled at losing a draft choice. Yanks do need a good solid LHSP who is effective vs LH batters to balance the rotation and offset the porch at Yankee Stadium vs opposing LHB.
Very important - unless the Yanks have at least 2-3 outstanding RHP in their rotation, and they do not, it would be a very good "idea" to have a "good" LHSP

You have "no words"?
Then lets contribute some words and help things along.

1) when we talk about any rumors or actual signings of free agents we should imo at least take into consideration how much money the Yanks WILL be dropping from their payroll after 2016 and 2017.....this also applies to possible trades.

2) and of course consider how much money they will (possibly) add going forward from 2016.

3) Nothing has actually been DONE yet

4) if the Yanks do want to get younger, are they supposed have 25 year olds at most positions? lol

5) it is still a very real possibility that 3-4 positions will be filled by farm system products no later than 2017.
RF Judge, 1b Bird, 2b Refsnyder, C Sanchez (back-up for NOW)

6) if Gardner DOES get traded for help in another area, Aaron Hick 26 yrs old becomes the LF.....the GM has already said he believes Hicks is an " everyday" player.
Gardy gets traded = Yanks get younger (Hicks LF)
gee, that was easy to figure out.

Of course IF Gardy gets traded, we do have to see what the Yanks get in return.....and I just don't think IMHO it will be for an older player. lol
We shall see.

7) you mentioned Wien-Yin Chen.

Lil? Just curious, did you read my "explanation"?
Yes I read all the comments. If you are asking me if I have an opinion on the subject the answer is no. I just report any news I hear and let you guys argue. :bgrin:

Well said lil. LOL

...unfuckingbelievable wholesale contradictions.

Care to explain "wholesale contractions"?
Are you referring to Cashman....or me pointing out a few things which are NOT contradicting anything?
Are the Yanks NOT dropping a ton of money after 2016-17 which will offset the signing of a mid-level free agent such as Chen which has only been rumored?
Do you have inside information that the Yanks will be adding 45-55 mil per year over the next two seasons?
I'm all ears....always willing to learn.

Scratching my head.......but before you go any further, you did say, and I agree, the Yanks need a solid RH bat.
Hicks in his short career so far has a .272 ba/.808 ops vs LHP and last year with the most Abs he's had in a season- .307 ba/ .870 ops.
But he's still young and has yet to have a full season under his belt.
Don't get excited, I'm not putting him on the all-star team.

Are you hinting at the idea the Yanks MUST NOT sign any free agents or else they'll be "contradicting" themselves?

Why don't you just admit you can't be fair and levelheaded when discussing anything Cashman?( and me? lmao)
It's okay.

I'm telling ya, there's a Cashman under my bed.

...quick, everyone check your messages.

th

Cashman's fault.

Starlin Castro for Brett Gardner? Does Cashman really not like Refsnyder that much? I don't like the idea of losing Gardner, but could be OK with it for pitching.

Oh and I see the Rays got Whitley....guess that means Ace Whitley when we face him.

Ace Whitley!

Boston Globe said it's "not a slam dunk" that the Yankees will trade Brett Gardner this offseason as per Nick Cafardo.

Lillie with Cashman at the helm that wouldn't surprise me.

What's the rush?
Rumors have Cashman checking in with a couple of teams- and
..
I guess even an "idiot" like Cashman believes he has options, preferences and may not want to trade just for the sake of trading.
Appears as if Cashman DOESN'T trade Gardner, he'll be "wrong".... and if he DOES trade Gardner, well of course it'll be a "bad" trade.
Poor basterd- that's why they pay him the big bucks?

We get it that you have a boner for Cashman, not that there's anything wrong with that.

...still laughing at the ever-changing "plan" du jour.

Still laughing at people laughing at an imagined "ever- changing" plan after they "laughed" and criticized the Yankees for not signing any big name, big $ free agents (Max, Shields, ect) during the 2014 off season, and for also not trading any prospects at the 2015 trade deadline and, are currently criticizing and "laughing" at Cashman because he hasn't traded Gardner yet.....
.......and, I will probably laugh again at those same people who will probably "laugh" again while they say it's an ever-changing plan and the Yank will be busting their budget and becoming "inflexible" if/when the Yanks DO excercise their right and choice to sign a mid $ level free agent (who isn't an older player) to help fill a need while the team will dropping ALOT of money off the pyroll in the next 1-2 years.

Fair enough? Isn't this fun?
We can ALL have a few laughs!
lol
