Update:

Source: McCann deal with #Yankees is 5/85 with sixth-year vesting option that could bring it to 6/100.

..thanx Jill...saw that. It's a little longer contract than I would have liked but I'll take it.

Looks like Peralta going to the Cardinals so that is one third base option that could be off the board.

Very happy to have a real catcher on the team this year. As money is limited Cano better stop smoking whatever jay-z's giving him and get his ass signed to a reasonable contract or he'll be sweating his balls off in texas

I think Cano will sign with the Yanks but I am just glad to see the Yankees are not waiting around and missing out on other guys they want. They do need a 3rd baseman and with Peralta coming off the board I wonder who they could look at? Drew?

...I thought it might take longer to land McCann...but to acquire him this quickly could be a sign of the Yanx' unwillingness to wait on ARod's saga to come to fruition before spending.

They did what they had to do. McCann could be huge in the Stadium. It also makes me wonder about the depth charts. Do you figure Romine, Murphy, and Sanchez. Makes me think Sanchez is now trade bait moving forward... I'm very pleased with this. Now who is next?

I think if they waited until the Arod saga was over everyone would be off the board. Glad to see they didn't sit on their hands. As far as Sanchez I could see them trying to use him in a trade for pitching or maybe 3rd base or outfield.

I have no proof or any articles to support this, but I feel they are looking at Headley from SD. Just a gut feeling.

Majorball I would be all for that. Maybe they could use Sanchez in a package for Headley.

...I'd like to see Beltran/Choo/Elsbury and Tanaka under contract next.

...I can't believe some of the negative reaction over the McCann acquisition...there are people who actually insist that McCann sucks and that the Yanx should have signed Ruiz instead.

I could see that Jill. I also think they are on Ellsbury, which then in turn could free up and offer a package of Gardner, Sanchez and the likes for a very decent 3B.

...yeah, I read that SD might be willing to move Headley. And I'd much rather have Elsbury in CF than Gardner.

I haven't seen them mentioned too much with Ellsbury. I like him a lot when healthy and that is the problem with him. He would cost a ton of money also and they still need pitching. Can't win without good pitching.

59, I haven't seen to much negative reaction on the trade other than the usual suspects complaining that the Yanks overspend on everyone but if TX would have signed him it would have been a great deal. Fantastic deal in my opinion. Had to be done but I just didn't think the Yankees would pony up the money for him. I am so glad I was wrong.

Are you serious. where you seeing that 59. Wow, I would love to see Beltran and Ellsbury next making Gardner available in trade.

I have never been sold on Gardner. Especially last year when his biggest asset is his speed and he would get on first base and not move. It was so so frustrating. I wold love nothing more than to replace him and use him in a trade.

This is great news, and I think it says volumes about the Yankees thoughts on Sanchez...

^^^^I have always seen him as a 4th outfielder type. And the fact that he hasn't learned how to read pitchers and moves. It would piss me off, there would be 2 outs, and he would become a statue out there...

Wow, I just read all the negativity. What choice did we have. OK so we paid a little more, and we gave a no trade clause that is nothing but another tool of agents to get more money for their clients in the event of a trade. All I know is that, like anyone, if they stay healthy, we could see 30-35 HR from this guy. Posada never could do that, so what is the benchmark. A 1975 Johnny Bench, lol...

Hey, I'm happy about this... it just shows they have no faith in Sanchez or any other catcher in the system

As a Yankee fan, how can you not be happy with this signing. There are no bargains in Free Agents.

...something we also need to keep in mind concerning Gardner is that now that he's on the other side of 30, his only redeeming asset, his wheels, will gradually leave him and after he is no longer able to play CF with legs like a greyhound, his usefulness will have left him.
...and his contract is running out.

...and something we need to remember about McCann is that Tex's contract is up after 2016,...and besides catching, McCann also plays a pretty good 1B.

McCann has not played 1B in his entire career, so to say he plays a "pretty good 1B" is comical. I know you want to be positive about the deal, but making stuff up isn't going to sell the point. McCann has stated he's willing to "learn how to play 1B' if it increases his market value - far cry from saying he plays a "pretty good 1B".
