Yanks trade for closer Devon Williams sending back Cortes and durbin

Solid upgrade, but I always worry how someone from the National League will translate to the American League not to mention playing in Yankee Stadium.

Goldschmidt for one year. Not sure I’m in love with that one.

Me either...declining numbers...hell we coulda got that kind of production from Rizzo. Only good thing I can say about Goldschmidt is that he's durable and he's a RHed batter, which we need.

Maybe get one last jolt out of him for a year.

Contract details emerge for Yankees one-year deal with electric reliever

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb...al-electric-reliever/edcb85865feae27dd421a01f

The New York Yankees brought back an exciting arm to the bullpen this offseason, re-signing Jonathan Loaisiga on a one-year deal.

Even though the 30-year-old is coming off a torn UCL that is likely to delay his start for the 2025 season, Loaisiga has always been held in high regard due to his electric stuff.

With the signing, the contract details have emerged, and the one-year deal comes with an option and incentives in 2026, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post.

Heyman reported that the deal is a one-year contract worth $5 million with a club option for 2026, which would cost another $5 million.

There's a signing bonus for $500,000 and the incentives for the 2026 season include $100,000 each if Loaisiga reaches 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70 innings pitched.

Loaisiga has a career 3.44 ERA and a 2.89 ERA since becoming a full-time reliever in 2021. During that span, he's logged 115 strikeouts across 140.1 innings.

He began his MLB career as a swingman between the rotation and bullpen in 2018. However, he evtnually became a reliable arm to use across multiple innings. He then settled into a set-up role.

Injuries, though, have been a major part of Loaisiga's career.

He was limited by elbow inflammation that required surgery to remove a bone spur in 2023. Right-shoulder inflammation cut his season short in 2022 with a shoulder strain, and he's now undergone Tommy John twice in his professional career (once in the minor leagues).

The Yankees added Devin Williams to the back-end of the bullpen and have Luke Weaver returning for more late innings. If Loaisiga can stay healthy, the Yankees could have a formidable trio to help close out games.
