<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>NEW YORK -- Gary Sheffield was told Wednesday that the New York Yankees will pick up his $13 million option for next season, according to a newspaper report.Sheffield said he was hoping to test the free-agent market and get another three-year contract, USA Today said in a story on its Web site."This will not work, this will not work at all," Sheffield told the newspaper. "I don't want to play first base a year for them. I will not do that."Sheffield, sidelined from May 29 to Sept. 22 with an injured left wrist that required surgery, hit .298 with six homers and 25 RBIs in 39 games this season. He played first base for the first time in his major league career after he returned in September."I don't know what they're [Yankees] going to do," Sheffield said. "Maybe they picked it up just to trade me. If they do that, if I just [go] to a team for one year, there's going to be a problem."A message was left by The Associated Press seeking comment from Sheffield's agent, Rufus Williams. It's possible the Yankees are positioning themselves to trade Sheffield, as several teams are reportedly interested in a player of his type. The New York Daily News reported Wednesday that at least a half-dozen teams -- the Angels, Orioles, Cubs, Giants, Astros and Rangers -- are in the market for a power-hitting corner outfielder, and that doesn't include the Red Sox and Mets, who could also use the help. The Yankees can now prevent Sheffield from going to such rivals without getting anything in return. One GM reportedly called Yankees GM Brian Cashman last week about Sheffield. "To be honest," he said, "I was kind of put off, leaving me to believe he's got at least a couple of teams really pushing him hard [for Sheffield]."</div>

Wouldnt suprise me if the Yankees did want to trade him, but apparantly Sheffield is pissed, and he will likely do whatever he can to force his hand. I would suppose whatever team tries to trade for Sheffield will have to cough out a 3 year deal just to make him happy.

Please trade him, I'M BEGGING YOU please trade him. I was absolutely shocked when I read that they picked up the option, but there's no playing time for him here whatsoever..If he's here next season I'm going to be PISSED

He'll be traded. This is, as the story says, just a move to prevent him from going to a team we don't want him to go to (Red Sox or Mets).Let him be a Chicago White Sock or what have you. Like I said in my Bold Option post about the Yankees. Trade him away for draft picks, I don't care, get something for him and move on. Who cares if he's pissed? He wasn't going to come back either way, and this way the Yankees will get something for him.

Jacque Jones for Sheffield. And then the Yanks trade him away for other useful parts.

We have guy named Jermaine Dye, who's alot cheaper than his fucking ass.

You can't have fucking Brian Anderson playing. He is one of the worst everyday players in the league.

Sorry, the Yankees can find some other taker for Sheffield. We can find a cheaper option in a guy like Carl Crawford. Who's younger and is only going to get better.

There is no way in hell he is coming cheaper then a scorned Gary Sheffield. :whistling:

Plenty of people are fine with only one nut (Lance Armstrong, Joe Torre, Dusty Baker, Tom Green)... c'mon Terry! Get Crawford!

I heard a blurb on ESPN Radio today that they have a deal in place with a team, but are waiting to see if they get any others. They didn't say which team though.Later on they said that Barry Bonds has gotten offers from all 30 teams.

^^ i doubt that...an NL team will not offer because the only position hes suited for is DH, and the majority of the AL teams dont want him

It was his agent stating that all 30 teams should be interested, not that all 30 teams have contacted. He has been contacted by the Giants, Angels, Orioles, and Dodgers
