I would never ask of a #5 starter to be electric, just to keep my team in it. He did exactly that. Good job by him today even though he’ll get the L and some will blast him.

...that's essentially what I said...and I laid the loss on the "offense and defense" when I said "offense and defense could/should have bailed him out."

Looks like Houston is entering the immortal grounds of Yankee Stadium and are going to make their own history......
for now. Too bad Yankees do not have the optimum pitching to thwart their baseball statement.
Damn you, Cashman.

other than 3 batters in the 2nd, Domingo regained his rookie composure.

Hope he learned a lesson from t/Master Viagra Verlander. Hope Trashman's learing lesson #2 from other GM's.
-Lesson #1 learned from Theo how to rebuild.
-Lesson #2 still to be learned, how to build a W.S. Champion, with solid Pitching all around; with an Offense that can- "Get 'em on base, get 'em over, get 'em in." With a Defense that's still to mature, and will in due time to come.

This explosive engine can't fire every single game. Offense can't carry the Pitching staffs every single game. Way too many games going by with way too many men LOB game after game, or not on base enough to make a difference; living and dying by the long balls. Defense was absurd at times, why did Bird pull off the bag with Andujar's off target throw, imo a premature mis-step fundamental 101 failure, no stretching eh Bird??? Torres baserunning, and prior errors a rookies mistakes, we do hope. Can't wait for this team of overachievers to mature...and find a solid Pitching staff too boot. Defense and Offense will mature/improve in due time...

Reminds me of the mid-latter 88's Yanx, all bats (Offense) and too many balls (Pitchers), not so much long balls, only Offense....???

I have been checking Verlander’s pitching records going back to to 2014. Something strange is going on.

2014........15-12.......ERA 4.54
2015........ 5- 8................3.38
2016.........16- 9...............3.04
2017..........15-8................3.36 ( Det. 10- 8. 3.82/ Hou 5- 0 1.06 )
2018.......... 6- 2................1.08

With his move to Houston, he has given up 2 + less runs per game average since his days in Detroit.
So, what gives?

Same situation with Charlie Morton who is 7-0 with ERA 2.04. With Pit 2014....6-12...3.72,
2015.....9-9......4.81; 2016 with Phi. 1-1 4.15; 2017 Hou 14- 7....3.62.
He, too, has given up 2+ less runs per game.

Of course, both men are playing for a far superior team than before. Does this mean a 35 & 34
year old have obtained the fountain of youth at this stage of their careers?

Call it what it is: The Nolan Ryan Fountain/foundation of Youth-
imho.
That or Viagra Verlander found his 3rd wind...

I can't speak for Morton. Verlander with a couple years of arm troubles, surgery, and horridly bad bloody Detroit Teams. Found home where the Team hands him pretty damn good defense, sound base running, and an offense that can play both small ball and long ball. Beat anyone several different ways. Viagra Verlander was floundering on Great Lakes Whiting, needed a change of pace. The Stro's have what, a pretty solid SP Staff, not a bad BP either. But you knew that...

the one and only gem of the day??? or was Domingo's slow maturation one as well....an error here, a baserunning mistake there. Still unable to layoff the outside low junk gopher killers...
