Batters get on base..he got the third out by a ground ball...
His whip is .89 this season
You comparing him to the greatest reliever of all time is a bit unfair.
Btw did u see my message to you
We will have to agree to disagree brother.
Imo Stats are great indicators of/for many aspects, but there is none for intangibles.
Yep, he's got some great numbers, BUT as I've said b4, he allows way to many runners on base via hits, walks and wild pitches to be elite, when compared to the greats, of which he falls short too often for my expectations.
It's not just Mo I compare him too, it's many of the greats from 62 on.
One needs to compare players for a baseline relative to performance. Stats can be misleading in many ways; especially when performance is not relative to stats.
A closer shouldn't open doors of opportunity, they shut 'em or slam 'em.
That's how I've felt when he was a Red also, too wild, too many opportunities allowed.
They should have a stat for tension levels when a closer throws as few pitches possible, without one single hitter being on base. Measure blood pressure, tension, stress of the fans, players et al, when a Reliever Mo's ' em down with ease consistently almost always.
Vs- when the Closer comes in and builds the tension of allowing the tying run on base, followed by the winning run on base, after a prior throwing/pickoff error.
I'm surprised he didn't throw a few to the backsto.
Rollie Fingers threw approx 1/2 his closer appeancesj pitching 2-3 innings.
Like Mo, Rollie even Goose and many others, one grew accustomed to a sigh of relief upon their entrance, knowing runners should not just get on base, at al ...
The highest standard is the goal, and reference point.
Yep, I read your PM's, and thank you very much.
I hope your Son is the next Jerry Kramer.
I look forward to hearing about his season, and your proud comments.
Take Care.
PS- Super Bowl III was Epoch, one of a kind, as Legendary as they come. Johnny U vs Broadway White Shoes and Mink Coat Joe. I was in High School back then.
