Damn good thing this game was not played in Yankee Stadium or we would have just had a tied ball game ...

Chapman is no closer in my estimation, he simply fucks around too much, very adventurous 9ths on a consistent basis, Reminds me of Wetland or Wetman whomever the Yanks had in '96. Judge saved Chapman and the Yankess asses on the final play of the game.

You mean the world series mvp john wetteland..that reliever? 21 of 22 saves this year..that guy

Yeah, that guy, he had some adventurous 9ths. One thing I forgot to mention about Chapman that next to the last pitch to Turner I felt the UMP missed the call, that guy looked like he swung. Judge ends up with another defensive gem.

How often does Chapman allow the tying run on base, and the winning run to come to the plate???

To Damned Often....!!!

Game Recap-

I was so disgusted with the way the Yanx threw away the earlier game that I didn't even watch the first few innings of the night cap...it seems that Boone also use "the binder"... Betances has pitched MUCH better lately and was just plain filthy in the 8th...can anyone give me a good explanation of why Boone didn't simply march Betances right back out there for the 9th instead of Chapman ?

...sorry, but I've always believed that you should stick with the hot hand...Chapman was unnecessarily brought in, struggled with his command and tried his damnedest to give away an easy win.

Boone was told Chapman looked good in warmups. lol

...exactly, and that's the point...I mean, what else is the BP Coach gonna say ?, "Chapman looks like shit tonight, don't bring him in !"

...Betances' slider was absolutely unhittable last night and he was locating it and the Nats batters looked totally lost...IMO, when ANY pitcher is locked in like that, stick with him. WE've seen Chapman come in and look great but we've also seen him come in and pitch like, ..........well, .........me !

^^^ Anyone remember Betances record vs the Nationals?...anyone remember how well Betances has pitched lately?

...The Nats are a team that has never faced Betances before and neither had the batters who be leading off in the 9th yesterday...Betances only threw 15 pitches, faced 3 batters, struck out all 3 while making them look totally lost. He's allowed 0 runs and 1 hit in his last 11 appearances, faced 41 batters and struck out 20 of them.

And in his last 20 outings only 2 times did he pitch two innings and gave up a run in each of those

...So?...wtf does that have to do with how well he pitched LAST NIGHT?...aren't you the one who last week tried to defend Chapman by trying to somehow compare him to Rivera and reminding us all that "even Mo didn't have 1-2-3 innings every time he pitched"...remember?

...I "cherry picked" some of Betances' stats only because YOU did, to help show you that what has happened in the PAST does not by default, predict the outcome of the PRESENT...sorry, I can explain it to you but I cannot understand it for you.

...but this really should not need explaining...Chapman clearly did not have his best stuff, and conversely, Betances did !...do you disagree?...yes or no?

Stop Bitching Guys what's done is done time to move on to the next Game.

"When you see a good wave ride it out, (it could be awhile b4 you see another)"...

Bad decision by Boone...

15
pitches, Betances should of been sent back out in t/9th.

We are upset in a game we won!! You guys are hysterical. Bottom line is this year when he was sent out there betances didn't have success in the 2nd inning. And Chapman, despite not having a lot of clean innings has the following stats 31.2 IP, 14H, 55K, 1.14ERA, 0.884whip and saved 21 for 23. If you ask me thats pretty good and I'll take it as should we all.

...so in other words, if they win, we are prohibited from pointing out things we perceive as questionable?...and no one is "upset".

...sorry man, but the right decision doesn't always work out as intended, and conversely, the wrong decision doesn't always cost the team a loss.

...I'm well aware of Chapman's stats, Betances' too, ...but neither of their past stats are indicative of how they performed last night...but again, the crux of the convo is about the situation as it unfolded LAST NIGHT.

Betances is a one trick pony........one inning is his quota. Sad.

Your a hard man to please 59. LOL

...no, not really...what we were discussing was that Boone is evidently no different than Girardi who many used to bash for his "binder" mentality. I think that considering that Betances has been lights out recently and had only thrown 15 pitches, I thought it would have been best to stick with the hot hand. Others may feel differently and that's their right also.

...besides, a little over a month ago when he wasn't as dominant as he's been lately, you complained that Boone should have brought Betances back out for a 2nd inning instead of Shreve;

"Boone should have got shrove after the 3 run homer. Wasted a great outing by CC. should have left betances in to pitch the 8th."

..."DOH !!"
(Homer Simpson voice)....lol...just messin' with you, man.

...only because Boone made it that way...another thing to consider is that Betances was dominant last night and Chapman was not...Betances threw only 15 pitches, Chapman threw 25... I'm not sure if Chapman will be available tonight if we need him vs Seattle. I hope we won't need him but if we do....???

You said it best: "despite not having a lot of clean innings"...
That's exactly what I'm talking about. He's either going to: (1) improve, (2) stay the same; continue the trend or (3) get worse...#2 and #3 will eventually result in blown saves....

AC walked but 20 batters last year, He's already issued 14 free passes; in 32 games this year, not so pretty...

If one only looked at Chapman's Stats, and didn't see his actual pitch by pitch performance game after game, one would think he's a bona fide Ace, (if they were spared the nail biting on the edge of your seat sloppy outings). When your team is up 2 runs, you don't allow the winning run at the plate, and the tying run on 1st; ya' just don't go there. An Ace Closer-??? Ace maybe, but not Elite....

In years past AC really fell flat on his face when entering a game with with inherited runners. In his short stint with the Cubs, inherited runners scored 64% of the time; incl PS.

Or has some forgotten last years August meltdown of Chapman...
"In Chapman’s past seven games he is 0-2 with two saves, a blown save, a 10.29 ERA and has given up seven hits and six walks in seven innings." (From t/Aug 25th 017 NY Post)

Fact is: Closers should give Team mates, Coaches and Fans a warm assurance the game is over when they enter. I haven't ever got that warm fuzzy with Chapman.

I don't know what Boone will do from this point forward but German has improved with each performance and tonight he has thrown a gem, Continued success on his part sure will help out over the season.
