...wow, 2 walk off wins in a row...Ells and Miller coming back...maybe a big trade deadline move?
 
Those kids will run through a wall eight days a week to help the team win.
Both need at bats especially the free swinger Pirela to get some rhythm and his legs under him....I still think he'll show himself to be a pretty good ML hitter in his various defensive roles.....and imo- Flores is a nice little player who also needs ABs and experience....not anything special, but a nice little ballplayer and not a bad backup outfielder to have on the team....some team...somewhere.
 
Baltimore and Toronto losing makes these wins even better.
 
a win is a win, but yet another example of a pitiful offense being gifted the game.
 
I for one know I'll sleep better, when Miller returns to full form......

Yanks offense has been sputtering lately , but let's give a little credit to a couple of good pitchers who have also been pitching very well recently- Archer and Karns.

Yanks put the pressure on TB in the 9th inn, and were rewarded.
Some may refer to it as a result of well executed small ball.

Can't have it both ways-
Yanks won a ballgame scoring "3 or less" runs without hitting a HR.

The TB pitcher hurried his throw because Flores is a LH batter who runs well and Pirela who also runs well came all the way around from 2nd base.

Chalk one up for "small ball".
Also the 6th time the Yanks have won a game scoring 3 or less runs(?)....not too bad.

The difference between his 8th and 9th numbers bare it out..
We know how great he is in his 8th inning role but maybe, possibly a big part of him being less effective as a closer is he just isn't getting enough "work" in his closer role since Miller went down.

He gave up a the game tying HR to Souza on a flat lazy curveball- could be he needs more innings (work) to gain command of his breaking ball and overral control....the curveball is more of a touch/feel kind of pitch as opposed to a fastball or slider.

His era pitching from the 7th inng (3.2 IP) - 8th inng (25 IP) is ZERO - 28.2 total IP.

His 9th ERA mostly as a closer is 4.72 with 13.1 IP and opposing OBP is 180 points higher.

He obviously either needs to work more innings as a "closer" or of course he can't be a dominant closer....lol

In any case, let's get Miller back!

Regarding my post (#52) which I agreed with Rick,
Betances surrendered two hits includng a game tying two run HR (9th inn) on a hanging flat curveball- July 4.
It's no secret since being moved in as the closer he isn't getting his accustomed work lately.
2.1 total IP since June 28----
1.1 IP July 1
1 IP July 3


I'm not about to say he can be as good a closer for a whole year as he is an 8th inning set-up guy.....but just maybe he needs/needed a bit more work and was a bit off on his command and control of his curveball...which he left hanging to Souza.

It's a known fact, many many relief pitchers need to pitch more often than he recently has in order to stay "SHARP", especially with curveballs..

That was my point (post #52) before you replied to me with a tinge of gobbleygook.

You don't have to "buy" it...I know I'm correct in my assesment of relief pitchers/closers needing enough work to keep their command and control sharp as opposed to mid relief guys who often get enough "work" and sometimes alot of work.
Is this a new concept to you?

That wasn't very nice....I'm sure you wouldn't like it if I said you couldn't cover a matchbook if you wrote down all you know about baseball.
