Was that a Scherzer article or a Lester article? Lol!

And if a frog had wings it wouldn't break its ass every time it jumped. I'll believe it when I see it.

Scherzer was mentioned 8 times excluding the title to Lester's 7.... Lester was more discussed near the end....

Either way, both will require contracts too long with NTC, & too much moolah...

Whoever they take P L E A S E no opt out clauses.

...if you want top FAs, you're going to have to overpay/overextend, period.

...NTC clauses are seldom a problem either.

...I don't have a problem with giving Lester/Scherzer 5/6 years because the first 4/5 years are likely to be so productive that the last year or two won't really matter. By that time they will likely have been replaced by other FAs or trades or prospects

...over paying/over extending for top FAs is pretty much what free agency is all about.

Not in the cases of A-Rod & CC. The Yankees got royally screwed on those opt out clauses.

...no, actually the Yanx "screwed" themselves in both cases...no one made them resign either of them.

...Stanton's recent contract is perfect example of what I'm talking about...the contract is heavily back end loaded and Marlins technically only gave him a 6 year/$107 Mil contract ($17.5 Mil per year average)...and if Stanton does in fact opt out after 6 years, the Marlins will have had Stanton for his most productive years...and some other team can then worry about paying him big bucks.

Yes in the case of Stanton the Marlins could be hoping that he opts out after the 2020 season because with the 1st 6 years averaging as you said $17.5M. the last 7 average $29.4M per.

^^^^^100% spot on.

Didn't the Sux win the WS the year ARod opted out? He played the Yanx well....even ended up keeping Boras' cut didn't he?

yup, he essentially fired Boras...and after the Yanx vowed not to resign him if he opted out, he ended up dealing with...

...wait for it.....

I agree COMPLETELY!

...I don't have a problem with opt out clauses...they can actually work out well for both sides.

I second the A-Rod and CC examples...

...uhhh, no...but you did also quote me, so I was not sure.

...do you have an example of a case when the Yanx offered an opt out that hurt them by losing a player?

I know this was directed at Steve but CC & A-Rod are 2 examples that I wish the Yankees DID lose a player because of the opt out clause.

Via opt out vs. Standard free agency? Hmmmmm.....

...was that the question?...didn't think so.

...do you have an example?

Whaa???? I'm lost. I thought your question was interesting, and no I can't think of an example of any player opting out and that hurting the Yanks.

...long day...I'm worn out from tracking a monster buck my Brother in law shot.

I'm wondering if Dombrowski, is thinking to trade Price for some top prospects, which will free up more $$$ to sign Max?

tho' Max has only proven himself for approximately 3 years. IMHO, that's still not enough time, to believe he is the future for any team. As well, his over-pro-nation delivery is damn near as extreme as Chris Sale's. I bet Max blows his arm out in the next 3 years, it looks inevitable, by watching his arm/shoulder, elbow, even wrist in Slo-Mo....

Letting Price go, and still getting some possible top end prospects, (tho' one can't believe a prospect will instantly pan out, or even play at a high level, as so often many prospects just can't make the leap to MLB, and contend), just saying.

thus, I'd be surprised if Max goes anywhere other than Detroit. I see Frisco in more need of Max, than most teams. Yet many teams could use his services. Max to San Fran, would give the Giants a solid core 4, even in LA, or NY, yet I'm not a fan of long term multi-million $$ signings.

Hopefully you caught up with him. How many points?

...yeah...we followed the blood trail (lung shot) and he had run about 50 yards onto someone else's property...so we called the guy to get permission even though we knew it would be OK (it's just the proper thing to do)...it was an 11 pointer (one tyne broke off and it wasn't a very symmetrical rack) but he was a big damn deer. We weighed him before quartering him and he was about 15 pounds bigger than me (225)...that's pretty big for a southern white tail.
...dragging him out of the brush was a bitch...225 doesn't sound that that much for 2 guys to haul but "dead weight" as they say, seems to weigh a lot more (hell, I can bench press 225 but that's different)...plus, neither of us are as young as we used to be either. We'd drag that bastid about 15-20 feet, then rest and then start again...once we got him to the truck, loading him on the tail gait was no bargain either.

...I'll try to post a pic of the SOB later. (the deer, not my bro-in law)

Exactly Rick! I wish when they opted out the Yankees let them go... That or they didn't opt out in which case their contracts would be OVER!
