If the volcano were to erupt today, scientists predict that the resulting ash cloud would affect areas 1,000 miles away, leaving two thirds of the entire US uninhabitable.

Wowza

IIRC, the Yellowstone Caldera is actually over due by a couple thousand years to go off and cover the continental US with ash and plunge the world into an ice age.

Is there a link showing which states are screwed?

There you go, a natural solution to global warming.

Wouldn't the prevailing winds and the Rocky Mountains play a part in where the ash goes?

Just like how Mt St Helens had more impact east and northerly instead of up towards Seattle?

This is an overlay of the ash spread of the last two eruptions.

If those are accurate, sounds like Northern Idaho, North Washington (Seattle/Spokane) are safe and Portland is fucked.
