Remember: the Olympics is not the end-all for a players' NBA career.

I have faith that once Yi is put into Lawrence Frank's system - the one that Nenad flourished in - alongside Vince, who is great at the pick and roll, Yi should do just fine.
</div>

Am I the only one that has little confidence in Frank's system? Nenad flourished because he had a low post game. It was needed because there was no one else to score in the post. Did frank even run plays for Nenad?

Like I said before, If frank changes his philosphy about playing young guys Yi will be ok. If frank wants to bench them everytime the make a mistake, We are doomed. Our current young guys like those before, Zoran, Wright, M. Williams, Boone(turning the corner), S. Williams(too soon to say), Armstrong, and Adams, will never develop under his system.

The only way Frank does this is if Frank is committed to change his system. When did frank give young guys an opportunity regardless of their production.

I don't really know what you're talking about.

When Nenad first came to the Nets, his post game was pretty raw. But he was the best shooter on the team.

I remember Frank constantly posting up Nenad, running pick and rolls with him. He did run plays for Nenad, and he was and still is a young player. Frank should have to change very little to implement Yi into his system. Yi is the best scorer of all of our big men, and if we want to have any chance to win any games, Frank will need to use Yi and use him correctly.

Once again, I believe that if Frank runs the plays he ran with Nenad, and gets in plenty of pick & rolls with Vince and Yi, then Yi should do fine.

It's been made that China has the team concept thing grasped....all wrong. Sort of like the anti US. US shoulld play more like China while China should play more like the US to basically get more from what they have. I like Yao down low and Yi in the high post, creating an inside outside type game. This allows Yi the ability to playmake, decide on dumping it down low, take a quick jumper or drive by rushing defender. I would think given the spread nature of the NBA game, Yi will be more effective then in the Olympics. China's coaching system is right now in the development stage. I think in the end, Yi's talent will never be fully tapped because of China's system. It's not a bad thing, I still think he can score 20 a night over 82. I don't think Shaq has fully tapped his talent and that's because of off court projects. On the flip side, I think guy's like Dirk/Duncan have fully tapped their abilities.

Yeah, he ran a ton of plays for Nenad. A lot of pick and pop but also post feeds as well.

We have a system? If the quote by Vince Carter holds up (That there's another new offense) that makes 4 new offensive systems in just as many years (or one more)

"feed the hot hand"
iso/pick and roll
motion
2008?

WHATA BUST wheres all the people who made excuses that he played the best talent in the world? bigs like dwight howard now what

dudes a bust plain and simple

bigs like Pau Gasol now what

and what the hell, this guy plays against the two top teams in the world and we've forever doomed him? Two games!?

God have mercy if those that are naysayers are still Marcus Williams supporters; then you have no excuses and you'll be on my list

Oh by the way, yeah he's had two subpar games, but he got to where he is now by being a great player in China, and a promising rookie in the NBA. So before you guys go jump off the Izod center clutching your RJ jerseys, keep in mind that you're comparing a career to what's happened over this weekend.

Here's a nice compendium of what David Thorpe, author of ESPN's Rookie Report, wrote about Yi last year. Thorpe, who also trains NBA players, loves him. There's also some nice highlights, including his two biggest games, his slam over Sean Williams, and a few others.

Yi says he is 20. His passport says he is 20. FIBA says he is 20. Unless proven otherwise, you have to accept that he is 20.

You are a bust. You showed potential when you first joined this board, but you haven't grown. TRADE CARTER15NETS!

Here is a little perspective from the Bucks forum.

2 Games in the Olympics. Andrew Bogut in the Australian team so far has played worse than Yi. This is a guy who has a $75 million contract extension and former #1 pick overall.

The same bucks fans that's trashing Yi on a nightly basis is defending Bogut, saying none of his previous coaches knows how to properly utilize him. Bogut is also playing with a possible sore ankle and he was able to post good stats when the team was tanking during the second half of the season. People are also saying Bogut should save himself for the NBA season and Olympics isn't worth getting injured over.

I don't really know how this all add up and I agree Yi has played poor and unmotivated during the Olympics.

I just wanted to throw this out here with everyone comparing Yi to Richard Jefferson.

Sarcasm, right?

There's no way Yi was 19 or 20 when he entered the league last year. He's 22 at the very least

IMO, based on what I've read, he's 24

Ok so one guy has read things, another one just has a gut feeling. Thanks, guys.

I'll take a passport, and FIBA (primarily) over that.

Yi's lackluster play didnt just started with the U.S and Spain, he was awful against teams in the warm up games too. Other than rebounds, he looks like he doesnt want to be out there. There's a difference between his team mates playing poorly thus he suffers and him just not trying. His defense has been atrocious, and his offensive game has been non-existent for this whole summer. If he could of just contributed just a little bit on the offensive side, China could of won. We never asked Yi to carry this team, but with this summer, we hoped he would give Yao a little help. And he's giving us the opposite. Utter garbage.

so he isnt tryin? or is it the coachin not puttin him in a situation for him to succeed? i mean we can all agree he possesses the skills and talent to be an outstanding nba player... 7 feet tall... sweet jumper, nice stroke... athletic and mobile...

i dont get it... i didnt get a chance to see him vs spain... but my god... give him the chance...

and to add... yao hasnt been dominatin... either... so maybe it is the coaches
