You have the #1 pick in 2013

Not that I think Zeller or Shabazz is either (b/c I haven't seen much of either), but I'd much rather have the next Kevin McHale than the next Vince Carter with work ethic. But that's just me, and I could listen to the other side.

Zeller the next McHale? You gotta be kidding me. I'm gonna need to see more post moves (he doesn't have HALF of McHale's extensive post repertoire) from him to say that.

I gotta go with Shabazz.

I see Shabazz as a Vince Carter kind of guy. He's the next flashy, high-dunking SG. But unlike Carter, his willpower and work ethic is without question. He seriously could be a better Clyde Drexler or a Kobe. The only question mark I have about him is his passing game, as I don't see him passing the ball that much. That said, it's not like young Kobe or young MJ did either.

On the hand, I feel that Zeller is a better Brook Lopez. Maybe that makes him Kevin McHale or LaMarcus Aldridge caliber. Very fluid, versatile, and unstoppable in the post. Not a brand-name superstar but a great player, nonetheless.

NBAdraft.net updated their comparisons for these two FWIW:

Cody Zeller: LaMarcus Aldridge
Shabazz Muhammad: James Harden/MKG

Seeing that we're in the process of a rebuild, that pick we traded CHA could really haunt this franchise.

IIRC the pick is protected until 2015, hopefully this team is (still) not a doormat then.

Scouts have said that the next two drafts are top-heavy with very few franchise guys. It's a "dropoff" after certain (franchise caliber) players:

2013: Cody Zeller, Shabazz Muhammad, Nerlens Noel.
2014: Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle, Jabari Parker.

Randle sounds like he has a very Zach Randolph-esque post game, but also very athletic.

I don't think so. It's a top 12 protected pick until 2015. Next season we won't relinquish the pick (35 wins tops).

Also, a lot can happen between now and 2015. Aldridge could be traded.

Should try to get Kyle Anderson w/ our 2013 or 2014 first rounder.

He'd be an excellent sixth man. Imo, he's a better Jalen Rose.

From the highlights I've seen, he doesn't have worse handles than Batum (that isn't saying much) so I think he can handle the SG position. Supposedly, his work ethic is unquestioned so I can't see him not improving his weaknesses. He's a big strong kid!

Heck, he could have a great nickname as well. Shabazz "Bad Azz" Muhammad!

When was the last time there was a player like McHale in the league? I've never even seen clips of him play, so I have no idea.

Several years before Walton was a Celtic, McHale was swinging his arms under thd basket exactly like Walton. The Celtic coaches (Bill Fitch) copied Walton, who of course had learned it from Wooden.

I know we're in an era where we have more access to high school players than ever before, but isn't it a little ridiculous to start talking about high school prospects like Shabazz and Nerlens being the #1 pick before they've played a college game? If history repeats itself, one of the two probably won't be drafted in the top three next year.

I'm not saying that ya'll shouldn't speculate, but to state with such certainty that one player or the other will be a better pick for the team is jumping the gun. I'm sure at this time last year, Andre Drummond was probably the hot name. This is why the 19+ rule was implemented; so we can stop having players who have not been tested against NCAA level competition entering the draft based on their buzz and potential.

With that said, I don't believe Cody Zeller is #1 pick material, but we're privileged enough to see all three of these players play in the same playing field in three weeks, thanks to the 19+ rule. How about we wait until then before declaring one player definitively better than another?

So, the next Brandon Roy?

He's too slow and not athletic enough to be Brandon Roy. But I think attribute this mostly to his marathon runner type body, whereas explosive wings tend to have Usain Bolt-sprinter type physiques. Thus, I feel this weakness can be fixed by the right combination of speedwork+weight training.

Aside from that, his all-around game, body control, BBall IQ, and his arsenal of moves looks almost exactly like Roy's:

He's apparently Kevin Durant's favorite class of 2012 player (and I personally like him over Shabazz as well).

Well it's obvious that Zags loves big white boys!

No way we should have the #1 pick next year. That would be a pathetic failure on the part of Paul Allen.
