You know this crazy sucka$$ season could all come together and we could do some damage in the PO.

Tanking is foolish for at least two reasons: you have no guarantee of getting any single player you have your eye on, and almost any player can end up being a bust in the NBA anyway.

Guarantees? In sports? About the only guarantee with this team right now is, like every year for the last decade, they are not a contender as constructed. Continuing on this same path will result in the same outcome. This team needs more AND different talent. CJ and Simons (and to some extent Powell) all being on the same roster with Dame is ludicrous. Getting a high Lottery pick whether for the talent of as an asset is a needed infusion of capital.

IMHO, if you're in the playin, you're not winning a championship. If you have talent, you haven't gelled. Also, the extra game(s) mean extra wear and tear.
So, "doing damage" is likely reinjuring Lillard....

However, yes, as a wearer of rose-colored glasses...
I can dream that Lillard will be healthy and refreshed going into the postseason for the first time in his career.
I can dream CJ will stop dribbling for 12 seconds at a time, followed by lazy passes to a teammate with 8 seconds left on the clock.
I can dream Larry comes back healthy and strong.
I can dream Nurk and Ant will continue to beast.
I can dream CJ2 and Snell don't ever see the court again.
I can dream that the Blazers will learn to play at least average defense in the last half of the season.
I can dream our coach has gained enough seasoning to outcoach his oppositions in his first playoffs.
I can dream we'll make the right deadline trade that'll bring everything together.

The problem is that "doing damage" means MANY of my dreams will have to come true. I am absolutely an optimist. However, even as a FANatic, I am at least somewhat of a realist.

I don't understand why fans groups seasons together as if they are one thing.....Stotts coached 170 different players....had two versions that if injury free would contend....we had serious injury bugs over that whole stretch from Nurk to Zach to Festus Ezili to Pau Gasol.....adding players can work or not....luck of the draw but our record for 10 years doesn't have anything to do with this season at all....it's a dead horse to me. Alan Crabbe joined a G league team today.....times are changin'...teams I thought were shoe in contenders are tumbling in the standings...that's sports for ya! Did anyone really think the Lakers would have AD and Russ on the trade block this early in the season? For me....the last stretch of play has been eye opening...I give the coaching staff credit for it but I also have to say Neil found Nas and Ant..but Chauncey plays them...and we benefit from that forsight. I'm starting to rethink what players Joe will move at the deadline and now I'm thinking Norm is more likely gone than Nurk....

Simons should be untouchable
He's not....you want to trade for an impact player they're going to want Ant in a deal. You have to trade value for value and CJ doesn't have a freindly contract to deal....Norm and Ant do though...teams don't want toxic long term contracts in case a player doesn't pan out

You want to stay with Lillard and CJ backcourt?

I didn't say that....I said...Ant has a plus trade contract and CJ has a negative contract....guys who make CJ money usually get traded with one year left on their deal...not 3 years.....We move Norm or we can't afford to pay another guard 20 mil.........If I make decisions..CJ becomes our 6 man and we trade for length and frontcourt defense. If you can find a trade partner for CJ....sure but I don't think there is any interest around the league that will give you value for value with CJ..you'd be selling low on CJ and high on Ant.....I'd sell high on Ant before the deadline while he's on a hot streak. Ant needs to start somewhere....not be the fourth guard in a rotation...I'd keep DSJ around as an insurance backup guard...ideally if we could trade CJ and Norm I'd pay Ant and keep him but you're still starting two small guards.....I don't see Ant impacting that anymore than CJ has.

You honestly have not enjoyed this road series so far? That's sad my friend....team gave us something to cheer for after starting out looking as bad as we did.
What exactly are you cheering for? I want a title before I die. This shit isn’t going to get that for me

We have a title...you can rest easily about that....just enjoy the games...winning is fun. I'm cheering for the defensive improvement on the road.....over 4 road games we had the number one defense in the league...with bench players...that means the coaching staff is turning it around....that's worth cheering for. Dame has fixed his issue....new staff..new front office.....plenty of options at the deadline....lots to cheer about. Lakers are losing...more to cheer about....I"m not sure what you mean by "this shit" ......you talking players, coach, front office, Dame or what? Nurk is beasting, Ant and Nas are playing like top lottery picks....hell it's not all that bad right now. Moves are coming

Many of us weren't around when the title was won. You may enjoy watching mediocrity with no chance at a title but many of us want to see one.

Watching the team youngins play better is great and all. But we need moved to become a contender. We are not close to being contenders at the moment. Even with Dame.

do you honestly think the last 4 games you've been watching mediocrity? you can see our title online right now and actually watch the parade and all.....but trust me....you guys have forgotten that title already.....Bucks fans will forget their's as well in a couple years....a ring only has a thrill for a split second and then it's gone....a season you have wins and losses regularly to celebrate.....I'll take winning games and entertainment over the short thrill of a title being the driving force behind my Blazer entertainment....winning one would be great..I hope we win another one but it's not why I follow the sport. It's just a bonus. Gives me joy to see superstars try to buy titles in big markets and fail, I'll say that much. Give me a franchise that plays with heart and treats it's players and fans well and I'm good. Enjoy the ride!

Bro, it isn't the same watching a title I wasn't alive for. I don't care if fans forget a title after 4 years. I want that moment. Watching them get bounced in the first round every year is the WORST thing about being a fan. If you are a contender, awesome. Very exciting. If you are developing with young guys and trying to build a contender, awesome too. But running the same thing over and over back that we know has no chance at a title, is not fun. AT ALL.

Don't buy the running the same thing at all.......and you don't know that you have no chance at a title...that's just negative affirmation which to me is no fun....enjoy the ride...we're building a new Blazer chapter right now and I like seeing it finally start to come together....Chauncey is getting role players to buy into his style of play and returning players as well. For a rookie coach taking over a franchise....I'm feeling good about where we're headed but last thing I'm stressing about is a title now....Dame has a 5 year window probably to give it a shot...I'm going to cheer for him to take that shot whether he wins one or fails trying. If the Blazers were so boring and not fun to follow why the hell would anyone be following them? If titles were the only thing to bring you joy, hell I'd become a Grizzlies fan tomorrow. Those fans have never won a title..Blazers fans don't get to play that card because we have won a title....and any Blazer fan can go watch that happen....I was 23 when we won and there was no internet so couldn't really go back and see it again back then...now you guys can see it all.....history is a click away

@SlyPokerCat ....some people are okay with mediocrity. That is their prerogative. Those who want more, are supposed to be okay with history....like clicking on old Babe Ruth highlights is the same as being there. Put me in the crowd of wanting better....and a little more recently.

yet pretty much all negative affirmations are based on "history"....such and such an era.....you can watch Walton win a title in color...Babe Ruth was black and white tv...anyone who thinks you have to accept mediocrity to enjoy the franchise is projecting a less than positive experience from decades of Blazer watching...I don't just enjoy Dame because Walton won a ring....I enjoy the possibility of things to come....look ahead or look back but people judging the team are doing it by looking back from what I read...not looking ahead...history was yesterday. We have a whole different group directing the team now....give them some time to implement their plan and then decide if we're a bad team or a good team. Everyone wants the team to be better....even if it's from game to game or quarter to quarter. People can be soccer moms about sports....personally I don't enjoy that part of the fanbase. I've changed 180 from the beginning of the season seeing how role players are sharing the ball and putting in defensive effort.

It is easy for people to say you can just watch it on the interwebs that were alive. It isn't close to the same.

The fact that people think this team actually has a chance is mind boggling to me. We need changes in the worst way.

I never said we don't need changes.....probably every team in the league needs changes....I said enjoy the ride...cheer for wins and improvement and it's just purely more fun ..we have lots of talent on this team and assets we can move.....we need some length in the backcourt.....that's all great for talking points but please....the doom and gloom about it are just not adding to anyone's experience in my view. It's not as polarizing as msg boards tend to make it out to be.

And thinking we have a chance to win when we are severely outmatched fit and talent wise makes many of us annoyed too. I can freely post all day that I think we are a treadmill team with no chance in hopes that we do make changes. Getting bounced in the first round is not fun to me.

optimism should never annoy anyone.....but hey.....I'm not requiring anyone to cheer or think we'll win the game today....I HOPE we win the game today even though we are playing bench players...like last game. Anything else is wasted use of my entertainment time. The playoffs are months away so worrying about the first round now is pretty useless too..we more than likely don't have the same roster by then and could have Dame back so....bring it on...win or lose...I love playoff basketball and can handle losing as well as enjoy winning...choices

Purgatory sucks
I know, i get it.

big picture is being missed here.
You are calling someone sad for not getting all excited for a momentary and short term peak, amongst a season of much larger cellar dwelling runs.
Reality is we have sucked for a large part of the season and this is yet another year where we are not clear contenders for either a title or high lotto pick.

That is the sad thing. Zero direction either way. Year after year.. after year… after year…….. after …… year….
Kinda droning, huh?

I was referencing this road trip....not this season but yeah....every season is a blank slate for me....I don't have that mindset and I do think it's sad if a fan doesn't enjoy success when it comes...nothing to do with titles and contenders...just enjoying Blazer ball for a stretch...if you read my other posts about this I've said I've turned around 180 degrees since we couldn't win a road game...and we are sharing the ball...over this road trip we've been the number one defense in the league.(small sample size but first time we've done that for a week this season) ...enjoy the victories and take it a game at a time....Dame needed to shut it down and this is the result...fun stuff....going on 45 years as a follower of the team and zero regrets so far...my favorite sports franchise ever....any sport. I'll die on that hill. Some of my least favorite franchises have won many titles.....doesn't change my dislike for any of them...Cowboys, Lakers, etc.....

LOL!

I'm not okay with mediocrity, that's hilarious.

Many times in sports, when a team's star gets injured the rest of the players on the team actually get better.

Look at this Portland team, learning to win games without relying on Lillard to save them.

Nas, Nurk, Ant, all are improving as players and in their roles on the team.

If this team can drug its butt into playoff contention this team could be very dangerous with a healthy and rested Lillard.

During our long-suffering mediocrity, Lillard has made the game easier for the players around him because he's who defenses scheme against.

With the way the team is playing none of the players are hurting their trade value if we wait to trade them during the offseason.

Who is the best in the WC right now? The Suns? Given his history does CP3 really have 2 long playoff runs in a row in him? VS a healthy and pissed-off Lillard?

That would be fun to see!

And lastly....

I have seen this said wrong so many times here and on other sites.

PLAYERS... DON'T... TANK!

COACHES... DON'T... TANK!

Any player or coach who would intentionally lose a game you don't want anything to do with.

GMs build teams to tank.

You don't tank by wanting players to intentionally throw games.

But he wasnt. The post you responded to…

one can enjoy the growth of the youth and still understand the purgatory state it puts us in and not like it for the season.

This sounds like it was directed at someone, so ill bite.
What is your idea of dangerous? Do you think this roster with Dame can win a seven game series against a healthy denver, phoenix, utah?
Meaning you think it is a legit contender?

or is dangerous meaning we might make some steam but likely fizzle out in the conference finals like we did two years ago?

Do you think this roster with Dame can win a seven game series against a healthy denver, phoenix, utah?

Sure.

We did pretty good against Denver with a banged up Lillard.

And that's not counting a trade or two.

And we can still trade everyone away for draft picks in the off-season.
