My personal favorite old movies are John Ford's The Long Gray Line and Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr. John Ford is a classic old-movie director (Grapes of Wrath, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, The Searchers), but The Long Gray Line is a seriously underrated one from him!
There are so many that I'd have to make a list of a hundred or so. One comes immediately to mind and that's Cary Grant's, I Was a Male War Bride, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. No, Man's Favorite Sport with Rock Hudson was probably just as funny.

I think I'll watch the remake of The Italian Job this evening. First of all, I have a mini-crush on Charlize Theron (sorry, honey!) and secondly, I love all those jacked-up Mini Coopers tearing thru Venice and LA! Really good actors. I mean, who doesn't love Edward Norton?!! (others: Mark Wahlberg; Donald Sutherland; Yasiin Bey (Mos Def); Jason Statham; Seth Green)

My Darling Clementine

A basketball site and no one mentions “White Men Can’t Jump”? There’s action, comedy, even a prime Rosie Perez nip slip. What more can one ask for?
Forbidden Planet - The most exciting science fiction I've ever seen. Even thought it's an oldie it's still good to this day. Like science fictions? See this one.

What are your favorite movies, say, 20 years are older?

Right up there for me are:

A Few Good Men
Shawshank Redemption
Coming To America
Rocky
Schindler's List
Almost Famous
You've Got Mail
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

OK, this one is no classic, but my wife and I are planning on watching Capricorn One this evening.
Gotta agree with:
A Few Good Men

You into to Alfred Hitchcock? Vertigo and Rear Window are great, but North by Northwest is my favorite.

North by North West is one of my all time favorites. I can't believe I didn't include it in one of my lists.

Cool Hand Luke and my grandfathers favorite Big Jake

Paul Newman at his best.

My dad was a big fan of the Duke. So was my wives grandmother. Her favorite was Chisum. We watch it every year around her birthday. My dad's favorite was True Grit and it's sequel Rooster Cogburn.

I should watch a few more John Wayne films in October, as that was my grandpas birthday month.

I'll be carrying his jumpwings with me when I walk across the aisle in November. Damn, I loved that guy.

The only John Wayne movie I liked was The Searchers.

He'd be proud.
