You can take players from any position and any period of time and make your favorite Duck squad.

My team would look like this:

RB- J Stew
WR- Samie Parker
WR- Maehl
QB- Kellen Clemens
LB- Kevin Mitchell
TE- Rosario
DB- TJ Ward
SS- Boyett
DE- Nick Reed
OL- Unger
DL- Ngata

What did all you guys start watching the Ducks in 2008?

Kellen Clemens? WTF?

You'd take Clemens over Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Dennis Dixon, etc?

I would. Clemens was tough as nails and as accurate as it gets. He never got a fair shot in the NFL.

Dixon or Mariota is better than Clemens :T

For D, I can see Haloti, Dion, Kiko on the squad easily.

QB: Joey. His comeback at Autzen against ASU in the final minutes was superb/Dixon/Mariota/O'Neill
RB: LMJ. Nobody is a close second, but I have to add Steward/Droughns/DAT/Barner/Jerimiah Johnson as the bench.
WR: Patrick Johnson. The Catch/Keenan Howry/Samie Parker/Jeff Maehl
TE: David Paulson/Josh Wilcox/Ed Dickson
OL: Gary Zimmerman/Max Unger/Adam Snyder/Geoff Swartz/Carson York
DL: Ngata/Nick Reed/Brandon Bair
LB: Kiko/Peter Sirmon/Dave Wilcox/Wes Mallard (always loved his name)
CB: WTIII/Kenny Wheaton's gonna score/Ifo/Cliff Harris (big brass balls on Cliff. Loved watching him play the ball).
S: Boyett/Chung/Cota
P: Jackson Rice
K: Jared Siegal
R: DAT
P: Bidwell

the thread title specifies favorite Duck squad/players, which is a different question then was the best

my favorite Duck is definitely Bill Musgrave, but that doesn't mean I think he's better then Mariota. Bill didn't have nearly the physical gifts that most of the guys that have come since enjoyed. He wasn't fast and his arm could be kindly described as adequate, but dude had intangibles in spades. His leadership and smarts showed in being named team captain for 3 years, being an Academic All-American, and post-UO becoming a successful NFL coach now with the Vikings as their OC. He was tough, smart, and a winner who led the Ducks to some of their sweetest tear down the goal posts wins ever.

Least favortie Duck:

Jason Fife.

Oh gawd, I get a headache thinking about how awful he was.

No Christian McLemore fans? Saladin McCullough anyone?

Beuhler?

Really? Cool. That guy was money.

It was fun watching him, even though we didn't attend at the same time (I graduated in 2000); he wasn't "special", but he got the job done plenty of times... he was really reliable.

Worse than Maldonado? Worse than DeAnthony "Don't block for Mariota at the 1 yard line" Thomas? (YES I HAVE A VENDETTA OKAY?!)

So DAT is one of your two 'least favorite' Ducks?

Mmmmkay...

I think he was joking.

I have a personal grudge I'm trying, desperately, to get over. So yes, while I recognize his skill and talent, he's on the lower half of my favorite players list. But it's just me; I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone else, and I totally respect how others love him, and why. He has many great qualities. But in my mind (and possibly only my mind) he fucked up so badly in that one play, showed so much arrogance and lack of fundamental teamwork, that I have disowned him. In my mind, he cost us a trip to the Natty.

Some of the last words I've seen associated with DAT are "arrogance" and "lack of teamwork", but people have weird and irrational opinions at times. Such is life.

Like I said, I'm working on it, and I know it's me, not him. You hated Andre Miller for more than a year, so you know what I'm getting at.

The question I leave you to decide the answer to is this: why did DAT not block Mariota in that game last year, instead running ahead of Mariota even though that serves no in-game purpose?

Because he's a 19 year-old young man who got caught up in the moment? I don't think he did it out of arrogance or being a bad teammate. It was an obvious mistake, but I think you're assigning motives to it that don't seem to jibe with what we know about DAT and his demeanor. The guy goes fishing to relax, for Pete's sake.

Very possible. I need to get over myself, I know, but damn that really hurt.

People still rip on Cliffy for dropping that pass, and I've defended his ass on it every time, so I know the other end of this argument.

A hanging Curveball in Baseball your eyes get HUGE and you swing for a 900 foot home run and comepletely whiff, a gimme Layup in Basketball, that Denver LB who dropped a Pick 6 on Thursday night etc etc. Sometimes you get so excited by something in that moment, that you dont think at all, and forget basics.. especially when its not something thats 2nd nature to you.

I'd venture to guess that its not 2nd nature for DAT to not be the one busting the big play and having to be the one doing the dirty work. He forgot a basic necessity though for sure. But a reflection on him? unlikely imo.

I will say this: that he tried to block for Mariota last week has softened me on him a lot.

Back to the topic that I forgot to post on... I'd have to go

QB- Dennis Dixon (Senior year when Chip got ahold of him)
RB- LMJ
WR- Maehl
WR- Parker
TE- Ed Dickson
OL- Unger
DL- Ngata, Nick Reed, Kenny Rowe
LB- Kiko, Matthews
RV- Chung
S- TJ Ward
CB- Thurmond III, Byrd

Eh, I was frustrated too, but I don't think it was arrogance or selfishness. I just think he zoned out. He wasn't in the moment. He didn't realize that someone was closing in (possibly because he's so used to just blowing everyone away when he runs.)

Last week he ALMOST did the same thing, and only at the last moment did he wake up and go, "holy shit someone is about to catch him." I really don't think it's on purpose. I think the kid just kinda lost track of what he was doing. Guys like Huff block for DAT all the time. It's part of their game. It's part of how the team trains them. DAT might not be part of that training, I don't know. I just don't blame him after the fact. The whole team was disappointing in that Stanford game.

I would have a very similar list, but Joey Harrington is still my favorite QB. The dude was so much fun to watch.

love Trucks, and the perfect name for a Safety lol. But Cota was before my time, I dont remember much of him

I think our best secondary was Bauman and Steve Smith.
