Conversely it's also the easiest way to stop sucking. HOU, SA, GS, POR

Had we finished worse it would not have cost us Dame. Dame was from NJ.

And we could have had a lottery pick this year too, if only we had sucked as bad as the experts predicted.

SAS didn't stop sucking when they drafted Duncan. In the two years before they drafted him, they won 62 and 59 games. That's not sucking. David Robinson only played 6 games the year they drafted Duncan. It was a one time down season due to an injury to their best player.

My original comment was drafting higher means you have the opportunity to land better players. I brought up not being able to draft Drummond someone Portland reportedly really wanted, and having to settle for the injured guy as an example. Boob said had we drafted Drummond we wouldn't have got Dame, which is correct. Just not what I was saying. Had we had a higher pick that year we could have had dame and Drummond. Then again we could have had Dame and Soup Juggler, so you know. It's not an exact science

Got it! Thanks for explaning!

Seems like....once again, you are arguing just to hear yourself...er see yourself. I said tanking for the sake of tanking is stupid. I was simply responding to Orion asking why people care about this draft. It's because the draft ios where superstars come from. Virtually the only place they come from. Then you chimed in and took it somewhere it didn't need to go, causing my head to hurt

Why is your head hurting and why does he need to be arguing. Its just a discussion. :) I personally liked the posts. It brought more overall knowledge to the discussion.

No one said you said tanking to tank isnt stupid.

I think it comes down to the reason we are paying attention. I get that we should be paying attention for more than one reason. doesn't mean I think we should be trading for draft picks.

I just don't understand the people who are looking at the draft for players to be on this team. It isn't gonna happen. Not this year. I don't see anyone in the draft that helps us or we don't already have a potential in, on our roster already.
Now I don't know near as much as some about the college players around here, but I'm willing to bet that none of them that we could get, would help this team. So no. I don't care about this draft in respect to getting a player. But I do understand paying attention to the draft for three way trades, etc.

He's always driving a point home. Never a back and forth, always a point counterpoint. Yes, he's very smart. We all get that.

As for no player helping us this year anyway, you are probably right, unless it's a top 2-3 guy, which isn't happening. I know for me anyway, I look at the Blazers as a team a few years away yet, so a pick this year cold absolutely help us win at that point. Look at the Warriors. Green took a few years. Steph took a couple of years too.

In most every draft someone is selected deep in round 1 or in round 2 and people a couple years later go "how the hell did we miss that guy?" I think people talk about the draft in hopes that the Blazers are the team to find those guys.

Maybe that's just me though?

Okay, I gotcha. If anyone can find a DGreen Gem it would be NO, so lets get him a pick to try for?

I can understand that and would buy in as long as it isnt giving up any of our 5-7 core guys.

Oh ya, no reason for that. No reason to give up what you realistically sorta hope a late first will become

Ford:

"Maker could end up rising dramatically in the next few weeks with great workouts. He nailed his measurements, athletic testing and interviews at the combine. If he plays well in workouts, the Celtics might have to grab him at No. 16. If he struggles? He could end up in the second round."

We have nobody on our roster like gp2. He would be a great fit next to cj when hes running the point. His defense is ferocious and hes an elite rebounding guard.

Denzel Valentine.

Need a big backup PG who is NBA ready. That's him.

Also...Sabonis would be nice, but doubtful.

Brice Johnson, Caris LeVert

I see your last statement through draft or FA. Why not a trade?

This thread and topic of convo seems to be based around the draft.
Can someone please answer my questions to Yuyuza's post?

And if you cant, then please explain why this draft should be so relevant top us that we should try to be a player, rather than putting our focus on the FA and trade potentials?

I am sorry, but I do not see any upside in entering the draft unless it is to trade the pick in a package. Those who think otherwise, please explain how another young draft player could actually help this team and make an impact next year?
1. I think it is always good to build for the future. This is a very deep draft and there will be good players available late first and second round. I think the Spurs always continued trying to find good prospects even when they had a good, deep team already. 2. You want to make a trade? Young players are good assets in the trade or to replace guys who go out.

Ford really went out on a limb on that quote. If he plays well in workouts he will go in the 1st, if he struggles, he could go in the 2nd.........

IMO he would really have to struggle to not go in the 1st. Assuming he can pass a drug test.

Olshey believes this is a deep draft; he has said so. I believe if Petr Cornielie is available at #31 that they should try to get him. He is very agile 7 footer who excels at three point shooting and offensive rebounding. He could play in Europe a year or two while he puts some muscle on. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Petr-Cornelie-61916/
I believe that Olshey drafted Jordan in the 2nd round, we certainly need some bigger, longer rim protectors like Thon or Prince Ibeh. Either one would replace Alexander who is a good player but just not big enough to play the role we need.

Ideal draft day would be "with the 2nd pick of the 2016 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select...Prince Ibeh? Is this a typo? hold on, I'll be right back"

"DAMNIT JEANIE BUSS!"

;)

I see us maybe trying to get a body upgrade from Cliff Alexander in the 2nd round if there is one available. AKA a C/PF in the 6'11"+ range who blocks shots and rebounds. If that guy is there Neil would likely find a way to get a pick.

He would be a great fit in this offense. How high up in the lottery do you need to go to get him? Would Toronto take Plumlee and a pick for 9? Is that high enough? Is that enough going to Toronto?

Sabonis is white AND American born.

AND not a center

LITERALLY no reason to argue with me about this. It is my opinion, and has zero statistical backing. Some have been fine. Brad Miller comes to mind, but the vast majority have all been garbage. Just like guys from Syracuse

would you put a time stamp on when this started and ended?

As in, it didn't use to be the case in 19XX, but after 19XX, it was. (?)

I tend to agree with you on it, not necessarily because they're WBA's, but because the 5 spot is a dying position and I don't think basketball is really a big sport for WBA's. Outside of the occasional 3 point specialist, there really isn't anything other then big clodding oafs.

Although Chris Kaman is the wrench in my theory.

I'm in the unique position of almost not hoping for any picks. Yeah, it sucks that we had to give one up for Afflalo, but that's a sunk cost. If there's a $3M 26th pick or something available (PHI or BOS? Hello?), sure, but I don't want to give up anything of significance (and because we can't trade Meyers, Hendo or Crabbe we're a bit limited).

I don't want to see Dame or CJ leave. I don't think we'd get commensurate value for what Aminu or Davis brings to the team. Trading Vonleh would be selling low. Plumlee might bring back some value, but what? I mean, would you guys trade Plumlee straight up for Sabonis right now? What else is left?

Same here. Draft time is always exciting because every young player has the potential to be a star when realistically you'd be lucky if they turn into a contributor within 3 years. I'm mum unless there is a nobrainer type deal. Maybe buy and stash a few euros.
