We left Merida a couple of days ago, but I've been busy and decent internet has been a little hard to find.

Quick random Merida story, in the list of shit to do when getting ready for a big trip, one of the things I didn't get done was a haircut. We had a little extra time in the afternoon so I put the power of the Googles to work and searched barber shop near me.

Now Merida is considered by most to be the safest city in Mexico, and from the cities I've been to I would have to agree.

I see a place called Classic Barder Shop with amazing ratings. It's 6 blocks away and my dad said he'll come with me.

As we walk away the El Centro to the barder shop the streets get a little narrower, the shops and building a little dirtier, it's a little rough but we get there soon enough.

Open the door and Latin rap music is blasting, everyone in there are covered with tatoos and the walls have pictures of skulls on them. But I need a haircut, it's too late to go anywhere else, and hell, you only live once.

The owner of the shop turns off the music and we tell them we there for haircuts. He takes me to the chair.

It was amazing, he did this flipping thing with the scissors that was like how you flip open a switch blade. Comb comb, fast flip of the scissors, comb comb, flip. The man was truly skilled and had a flair that I had never seen before. The guy cutting my dad's hair was similar to the man cutting mine. Very cool dudes, and the best hair cut I've had in years.

Anyway, it still makes me smile how a random event like a haircut with my dad turned into an amazingly fun adventure.

(Yes, I have the sling bag. Apparently that seems to be an issue for some of you, lol)

Oh yeah, forgot to post this earlier.

From Merida Fest. (It's their version of Rose Festival.)

One of the coolest pictures I've taken.

We are now at a little beach town on the Gulf of Mexico called Celestun. Staying at a little motel. They were hit by the hurricane just a few months ago but are working hard to recover.

Tomorrow we are meeting a guide at 6am, before sunrise, and are kayaking through the mangroves to see flamingos and other wildlife at sunrise. Very excited for this. Most just take guided motorboats during the day to see them but the kayaks gives you the ability to get up close.

Sly send me this and tell me the location!

That is a town called Celestun, it's on the Gulf of Mexico. World renowned for their flamingos and wildlife. They were recently hit hard by hurricane Milton just a few months ago.

To see the flamingos you can jump in a motorboat and go into the ocean and then into the open mouth of a lagoon.

Or...

You can get up at 6am, hire a guide and paddle into the mangroves and into lagoons that the motorboats can't access. The paddling gives you a chance to get closer to the flamingos and you see other birds, fish, and crocodiles.

We went for the kayaking into the mangroves. My dad wasn't feeling the best so he didn't make it on this adventure. (I wasn't feeling the best either but I wasn't going to miss this. Trip tip: never order Hawaiin pizza in a Mexican town.)

So it was just me and Mrs SPD for the trip.

The mangroves are a mosquito paradise. That's why they gave us netting for our face and arms.

You can see what is left of the roof of their headquarters from Hurricane Milton.
