anybody averaging 25 and 10 a game should be a shoo-in, but judging by the ballot returns on nba.com, it doesn't look like its gonna happen. I think fans should vote for five, and either let coaches or stats decide the rest who make the team. I dont think fans always know who the best players are unless its obvious (like lebron and yao)

I agree, he is totally carrying a horrible team to a bit less horrible. I'd love to see him him, he deserves it.No one thinks Zach Randolph when they see all the superstars though..
 
Teams without any national TV coverage have it pretty bad, I voted for Zach Randolph.

Fans decide the starting fives, coaches decide the rest. I could be wrong on that, but I think that's what I heard our announcers saying today.
 
Zach Randolph is an excellent low post player, he's big, he's strong, he's an excellent rebounder, and he can score in different ways (not only can he bang himself around in the paint, he can also shoot that 12-15 foot jumper). However:

Tim Duncan
Kevin Garnett
Dirk Nowitzki
Elton Brand
Shawn Marion
Carmelo Anthony
Pau Gasol (when healthy, anyway)

Plus you could add in Carlos Boozer for this year, and then you have guys like Ron Artest, Andrei Kirilenko, and Lamar Odom who are up there. I'm sorry bro, but Z-Bo will never be an All-Star as long as he's in the Western Conference. They are just too stacked with superstar forwards.

Yeah, you are right. The fans vote for the starters, but the coaches pick the bench.
 
Randolph has a shot, but he plays for a terrible franchise, which really hurts his chances. Boozer is ahead of him because the Jazz are lightyears ahead of the Blazers. I wish Randolph made the All-Star game, but not this year.

He out performed elton brand in both the games they have played this year. and unlike dirk, hes getting double, maybe even triple teamed because there isnt a jason terry or josh howard to watch out for on the blazers.
 
Yeah, but Dirk has a much better team, so he doesn't have to carry the load as much as Randolph does. I would probably vote him over Pau Gasol and Shawn Marion though..
 
The problem is the team he plays for. If he went to a more popular team and became popular himself then he would be a shoo-in. I bet if I ask most of my friends who is Zack Randolph they'd be like wtf?

Stats don't mean anything without wins. Stats are so incredibly overrated anyway. I mean if you watch basketball, you KNOW that all those guys are better basketball players than Zach Randolph, especially the ones you listed (Dirk, Brand, Gasol).

All stats aside, you also have to think about Randolph's attitude, the wins (or lack thereof), and the DEFENSE.

And when he isn't getting double teamed, the best defender is on him. It's not as different as you think.

First of all, you don't think Elton Brand is a better basketball player than Zach Randolph? I'm sorry, but LMAO. How is Brand NOT a better player? Both are excellent post players and both can shoot it from mid-range, but Brand is BETTER in the post and he is BETTER from mid-range. He's a better rebounder, he's stronger, he's a MUCH better leader, and most of all - Randolph is not a good defender at all, Elton Brand is a very good defender as well as one of the best shot blockers in the league. Brand is also a class-act, and a face of the franchise kind of guy. Randolph has off-court issues (not like a parking ticket either, we are talking in trouble with the law involved drugs and guns), he misses practice, he has had weight problems, he's more injury prone, he's somewhat of a ball hog, and he has had his issues with the coaching staff. To say that Zach Randolph is better than Elton Brand is just absurd, and I'm sure every member on BBW would agree with me (at least, I hope so, jeez).

Also, sure, the guys you listed (Pierce, Iverson in Philly, Bosh, Gasol, and Garnett) have been on losing teams, but they are on a whole different level than Zach Randolph. They are all franchise players, all superstars, all guys that are considered some of the best players in the entire league. Any GM that has ever been involved with the NBA would take any of those guys over Zach Randolph to build a team with.
 
Zach Randolph has the same problem as Carmelo. There are a lot of great forwards in the west who are recognized. Despite this I think he should make and and hes underrated. I want to also see a new era of all stars. Not just Shaq, KG, TD, ect every year.

Well, yeah, we'd all like to see some new blood every year, but you can't discredit the other superstars for a worse player. Some of them, like Shaq/KG/Duncan/etc. are All-Time greats as well. You can't just dump a player of that caliber.
 
I think Randolph is better than Marion, Gasol, and maybe Brand. I think he should get a realistic shot. He's also better than Kirolinko, and real close with Carlos Boozer and Lamar Odom.

And CelticBalla, if you haven't noticed, Pierce has been elected to the all-star game 5 times, half of those have been when the Celtics haven't had great seasons. I think Z-BO definately should get a bid to the all-star game. I agree with what Ballaholic said, it's tough for players who perform well on teams that don't get national coverage. cough, cough, celtics....the one game we were on national TV got canceled. BS.
 
So apparently Carlos Boozer, Lamar Odom, and Zach Randolph are better than Elton Brand?

Unfortunately the major factor coaches will look into when selecting all star reserves is the player's team's W column. I think you'll see Boozer in there and Deron Williams as well (could be).
