I understand optimism but sometimes, it seems like optimism runs a little too hot

the net on-off plus/minus in the just completed series:

Damian Lillard +37.5
Meyers Leonard +12.9 (47 minutes)
Al-Farouq Aminu +9.7
Enes Kanter +8.1
Maurice Harkless +7.7
CJ McCollum +5.3
Seth Curry 0.0
Rodney Hood -12.0
Evan Turner -19.9
Zach Collins -32.1

so, if I'm understanding the OP correctly, the guy who was such a disaster against Adams/Noel/Morris is going to "breakout" against Jokic/Millsap/Plumlee or Aldridge/Poeltl/Bertrans. I suppose he could be ok against the Spurs but I've seen nothing to warrant much confidence. And the Nuggets look like a major mismatch

Change of tune now?

Hmmm I think starting Zach might be a good idea. I’m thinking it may not happen Game 1 though. Stotts is going to see if Aminu can turn it around. Also having Zach come off the bench is not horrible. They just need to put him in the game earlier if Aminu is off. There is no room for error in the WCF

Zach with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks was a significant force in the DEN Game 7 win who is poised to make significant contributions in the WCF to beat GS Warriors. He has shown that he plays well giving a potent big twin towers lineup with both Enes and Meyers to counter GS bigs. He is playing determined basketball despite the scratch on his forehead. Does anyone know what is the cause of the forehead injury?
I thought it was from the BS charge he got when he catches the ball in the paint and a Nugget jumped into his landing zone.

Different Matchup. This year Stotts has started Aminu. Believe me when i tell you i have had enough of Aminu as the Blazers starting PF. That said.... You don't change your starting lineup when you get to the WCF's. You go with what you know and make in game adjustments just like you watched in the last series against Denver. GS is a totally different team.

All I know is that from what I have seen of Collins in the 2nd round shows me why we went after him in the draft. Clearly the starting PF next year. His defense and BBIQ are very high. Also dives to the open spot in the lane and has soft hands to catch the ball, will learn to finish a bit stronger.

I really liked what I saw from Zach, but I also believe that was kind of a match up problem for our normal starters. Aminu and Harkless just could not handle Milsap. Zach is taller and longer and made things tougher for him because Milsap isn't really a threat on the perimeter, he's a decent shooter but he's not great at putting the ball on the ground. I hope Zach keeps growing up but if KD plays I think Aminu / Harkless will be needed to help slow him down if slowing him down is even possible...

Zach needs to get some respect from the refs can't keep having 4-5 fouls in what feels like 10-15 minutes. For a young player, he did great though.

This aged well!

Terry will keep the same starters the rest of the play offs unless one gets hurt. Moe and aminu will check out of you send them that message.

When Zach goes in or if he starts he would be on Green and if Golden States goes small and if Green on the Bench he will be on Looney. Aminu or Harkless will be on Durant in this series. But Zach moves his feet pretty well I wouldn't mind see if he couldn't stay with Durant.

The refs hate Zach. If he were to guard Durant, he'd foul out in a quarter. The rest of what you said was spot on, though.

Rightfully so. Those two players are a big part of the reason this team is where it is at.
You don’t make wholesale changes after the team makes the WCFs
No doubt that I don't see Stotts changing the starting lineup. Durant going to get his he always does against us.

I don't know the Refs actually been tuff on Durant giving him calls this year one reason he so many T. Zach he has to understand your not trying to block his shot your just trying to contest the shot. But yes Zach does pick up some stupid fouls and yes the Refs seems like they don't like him. But just think if he could stay with Durant and pick up fouls. Zach I believe length would bother Durant.

Rewatching the game last night without the stress, Zach was such a huge force on the defensive end. He went from the top of the key to the paint and back several times in one sequence. The Nuggs were scared to go up, passing the ball out because of his presence. He has such good defensive instincts!

When he is locked in like that we are so tough to beat.

If only those soft hands didn't let his opponents take so many rebounds out of his grasp, haha.

I'm confident that will improve next season.

I love me some Zach and have from Day 1.

Edit:
Have to put Zach on Green. Kanter and Meyers go on Cousins and Bogut.
Lillard on Steph Curry and CJ on Thompson.
That leaves Aminu on Durant.

Nope nope nope.

Remember our win against them in the regular season when Kerr decided he wanted attention all for himself and imploded?

Collins played the absolute perfect role as the free safety running in and out of the paint near the rim. We left Green WIDE OPEN with 10+ feet of space on every play while everyone else stayed with shooters.

And I'm not playing Dame on Curry-- he needs all the energy he can conserve for offense. I'd put Dame on Iggy, CJ on Klay, Moe on Steph, and Aminu on Looney, with Collins guarding the middle and helping on every drive. Kanter is gonna become a major liability on defense, but he'll be getting his on offense-- i'd play him judiciously.

If MO had problems guarding Murray he have the same problem with Curry. I think you have to guard Golden State straight up guard on guard. But I might have MO guard Thompson and CJ guarding Iggy or CJ guarding Curry and Dame guarding Iggy.

I love Collins. Once experience, and his body catches up to his skill set, it’s curtains.

Agree. That kid has amazing footwork. At some point - he is going to be a crazy option down on the block while also being in the conversation about a defensive player of the year talk.

Very happy with Zach's play in the postseason. I think it's validated the FO's reason to draft him. All season long it felt like they were grooming him to be the starting PF next year when they don't resign Aminu, but his play after getting Kanter (even after Nurk went down) was brutal. To the point where I thought the team might need to dig into the wallet and resign Chief.

But he's played his way back in the postseason, especially against the Nuggets.

Prediction: He's gonna have a breakout series against Golden State and they let Aminu walk. GS is actually a good matchup for Zach. His strengths like his speed and versatility is great against teams who rely on perimeter scorers, and the Warriors don't have any bigs that can abuse Collins down low.

I just hope there is no fistfight between him and Green.

Why can't you? Maybe we're made it in spite of dilating them. If theres something we can improve, we should do it.
