I totally agree with you. That said, the Blazers are playing with house money from here on out as far as this season's playoffs go. Nobody gave them much of a chance to make the playoffs, let alone be up 1-0 on the Lakers to start the series. The most important thing for the team is to remember that next season is only a few months away. They shouldn't make the mistake of rushing him back.

On the one hand, I agree with you. We're exceeding expectations.

On the other hand..... Dame is 30. He's playing his best ball. The house money has run out. Dame's prime is officially at the peak.

Oh, I agree that the clock is ticking, but I just don't think that the Blazers have enough defense at the wing spots to have any realistic chance at getting past the Clippers or Bucks. I want Olshey to do his job and fix the roster between now and December so that we can hit it hard next season.
 
Steve Nash had 8 All-Star appearances. 6 of those appearances came in his "Age-30" season or later. Dame's has 5 AS appearances as of his "Age-29 season".

I refuse to believe that Dame is peaking. If nothing else, Dame can ball from deep, he's incredibly intelligent. He will find ways to extend his peak longer than most.

I feel bad for him, he just came back and now he’s hurt again after 9 games?
 
He’s done for the playoffs, they aren’t gonna risk this turning into a stress fracture.(if I’m understanding the injury correctly)

On a side note his trade value couldn’t be lower. Maybe we resign him on the relative cheap and he blows the fuck up when finally healthy.

Both Dame and CJ were 4 year college players....they didn't enter the league like Lebron did out of high school....different peak for them...this is not officially their peak year in my view...it's the start of it but it's only going to get better for the next few years
 
I think he’s likely done for the playoffs. I look forward to welcoming him back next season though.
 
upper heel inflamation is not something to take risks with...too close to the achilles ....could be his leg bone bruised his heel and got inflamed from it...that happened when I did the broad jump in high school...landed too hard on my heel ...hurts like hell. Doesn't heal fast

Yeah, I'd never want to jeopardize the future of any athlete by rushing them back from an injury that could get worse or make it more likely that they sustain a different energy. That being said, this team without Zach or Nas who we really could use, just beat the number one seed in the strongest conference. So our time isn't next season. The attitude has to be that our time is now. We just beat Houston in the bubble who is likely our next opponent, I think we can beat them in a series. I think we can beat any team in the league in any series with what we have. I never thought we would miss the playoffs. We had the weakest strength of schedule of any playoff contender before the season was suspended and we had Nurk and Zach returning... we would have also had Ariza. We aren't playing with house money, we're playing with the best player in the league at this moment, with a supporting cast that is good enough. We can win a championship... I'm not saying it's more likely that we win the championship than that we won't. I'm saying this team is capable of doing it. So, I hope every player we have, including Zach, gives it everything they've got to try and bring home a second championship to Rip City. Dame is doing everything he can and his team is following his lead.

Hey, I'm totally in favor of winning now. I think getting by the Clippers would be tough, assuming we get past the Lakers, but anything is possible the way Dame is playing. I'm just saying they shouldn't rush Zach back until he's fully healed. It's just not that long until the start of the next season.

Again, I agree that we should never play a guy who is more at risk to hurt themselves. The idea of next season is abstract. Silver, the owners and the NBAPA don't have any fucking clue how they will pull next season off and when they will do it. They can put up calendars all they want but they don't even know how they will make enough money to pay for anything in order to have a season... there won't be live spectators in a few months and 40% of league revenue is generated from live spectators. Next season should not be our number one concern, right now is the only thing that is promised to anyone but especially it's all that is promised to any NBA player in this moment.

How did Zach get so hurt without anyone noticing? It was never clear on when he got hurt. Never saw the dude limp off the court. Nothing.

Maybe it happened during practice before Memphis, and he just tried playing through it against Memphis. Also it’s a stress reaction which doesn’t necessarily have to come from a visible incident.

That would make sense. It was just weird that it came up out of nowhere.

Exactly. It had probably been building up over time and he'd been playing through it. Landing on it wrong in the game probably made it hurt badly enough that he had to take it to the training staff to be dealt with more seriously.
