Thought #1: It is not that rare for a female animal, especially one who has just birthed/hatched her own offspring, to nurture an infant of another species.

Not vegans who eat a balanced diet. Protein is protein is protein. It's incredibly easy to have a balanced vegetarian or vegan diet if you educate yourself about food and what our bodies actually need.

You can indeed get protein from vegetables. If you want to eat 2 cups of, say, Kidney Beans to make up for 3 oz of beef or chicken. I hope you like those beans, because a 6oz or 8oz portion of meat is pretty typical making it so you'd need to eat 4-5 cups of those suckers.

And for Minstrel, the reason people have eaten meat for all this time is that a small amount makes you feel full, thanks to the protein.

That's probably true also, though quite a bit of protein also comes from other common things like milk, nuts and bread.

Nuts are about the same as kidney beans. It takes 5 cups of whole wheat to equal 3 oz of beef.

Yes, but you can eat all of these things. You don't have to eat just vegetables, or just nuts. It's fairly easy to get plenty of protein through dairy, breads, vegetables, eggs and nuts, in combination.

I believe it's the fat that makes you feel full or has the appetite suppressant.

Researchers have uncovered new evidence to explain the observation that diets rich in protein stunt the appetite, according to a report in the November Cell Metabolism. The findings suggest a novel link connecting macronutrients in the diet to hunger, the researchers said. The results also point to a potential new target for the treatment of eating disorders, they added.

"It is well known that protein feeding decreases hunger sensation and subsequent food intake in animals and humans," said study author Gilles Mithieux of INSERM and Universite Lyon in France. However, the mechanism by which proteins exert their control over appetite remained unclear, the researchers said. In fact, earlier studies have found that a rise in dietary protein shows little effect on the major hormones that regulate hunger, they added.
