I just want to be clear, here, because I'm a bit confused. This is a case of racial profiling (even though everything in Zimmerman's past says otherwise), and the DOJ is going to investigate again based on civil rights? Isn't Zimmerman considered a minority as well?

I don't think so. Barack is half white you know, and a bit radical she was. Perhaps that is the source of his expressing disenchantment with the justice system. Zimmerman is half Peruvian Indian, damn! That must have been a disappointing discovery for those two half assed leaders The only half white is the boss himself.

I was probably trying to be too coy. How about if we just call all three of them half-white. Does this mean that people of Hispanic descent are a lesser minority than those of African descent?

“If the races were reversed . . . ” This game must be played fairly to have any meaning whatsoever. If you want to “reverse the races” you must also reverse the circumstances. Thus a theoretical opposite would be something like this: A short, overweight black 29-year-old male with college experience, bourgeoise aspirations and a history of community involvement spied a teenager lurking in a hoodie in a neighborhood which had had a number or recent burglaries. The teenager turned out to be 4 inches taller than he, if somewhat lighter, an athlete, a Mixed Martial Arts trained fighter, a school suspendee (after suspicion of burglary) and a hispanic gang-banger wannabe. His emails would ultimately reveal the climate of emotional, moral and intellectual poverty in which he lived. After being instructed by police dispatchers not to follow, the black male returned to his truck. He was jumped and sucker-punched by the hispanic youth, jumped on, beaten MMA style and somehow managed to fire on shot with a legally carried weapon, which, supine and injured, he managed nevertheless to remove from a holster under his own bulk. In those circumstances, would the 29-year-old black be indicted in Florida? Not a chance.

Profiling

Profiling. When the president calls for “calm” in the aftermath of the jury speaking, he is profiling. When police departments call in the manpower, put special command units into specific locations, and beef up for potential demonstrations or rioting, they are profiling. When celebs and rap stars use social media to put out irresponsible incantations to bad behavior, they are profiling. They are, in fact, profiling far more invidiously than anything George Zimmerman was accused of.

Their presumption is that the African-American community is immature, impulsive, prone to violence and incapable of understanding the nuances of the case. More volatile and less rational, this community demands special attention in order to nurse it through an emotional crisis, spare it and us from irreparable damage. It is, in fact, based on an us/them dichotomy.

Any individual who argued such a point would be destroyed; these gentlemen and entities may do so without consequence, except an affront to reason and the stench of hypocrisy.

Whatever, I'm reacting to the ridiculous black and white thinking people like PapaG and El Prez are showing. They are taking a dude at his absolute word for no better reason than to go against something Obama said.

I think racism is one of the cheapest crutches there is and far overblown. Most people are far to busy and have far too many problems to care about the race of other people. And I think each generation becomes more and more accepting.

I think the issue of racism that we're dealing with today is not your proto-typical "I HATE THIS PERSON FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN." It's more of a creeping, institutionalized racism. One that is difficult to feel when you are of the privileged class of society. Some could (and have) argue that the cops letting him go without even charging him is an example of institutionalized racism. Based on my experience and hearing his interview with the police, that's hardly an open and shut case.

I don't think he is a racist. I think he profiled Trayvon and that profiling could have been based on clothes, skin color, age or anything else. The fact is that he decided Trayvon was a criminal and something led to that decision. Like I said before, I think this case has less to do with race and more to do with how we view each other and how we view our communities.
 
I take Zimmerman for his word because it sounds plausible and consistent, backed by forensics, witnesses and does not seem to have any gaping holes. This was a pretty open and shut case before people started freaking out about outside factors.

Because the president and the DOJ don't care about them. The only reason this is a big deal is because it serves Obama's agenda to divide Americans into factions. It's the Balkanization of America.

Nobody is making money off the Black on Black violence and crime and those two Reverends don't have a clue what to do about it.

I'm going on the evidence presented in the court, and what a jury of 6 women decided was the correct verdict. I've already posted I don't think Zimmerman is a hero. It was an unfortunate situation, and one life is lost, and the other will never be the same. I could say that Trayvon Martin's emails and Tweets not being allowed is BS, but those will come up in any civil trial.

Michael Vick is a dog owner and dog advocate now. He spends money and time rehabilitating dogs who were bred to fight. Vick knowingly was meaning to kill dogs, and even he has learned his lesson.

At some point you'd think people would learn to not destroy their own neighborhoods. I'm guessing the WalMart on Crenshaw employs quite a few people who actually live near there.

Sigh. Do I have to explain my overblown hyperbole to you? Fine. It was poorly worded and hastily typed.

"People who think differently aren't real Americans" isn't me talking. It's the people who assume the "shoot first, ask questions later" mindset. You've debated with me plenty before, do you really think I would call someone who disagrees with me "not a real American"?
