It seems that Carter will be getting surgery done on his ankle over the offseason that has bothered him a lot this season. I'm not sure if this will affect him in a good or bad way but I hope it somehow gives him his leaping ability back and he comes back next year with a chip on his shoulder from people like Magic Johnson talking all this mess about him no longer being a superstar. What are your expectations for VC next year?

He will start next year's season much stronger compared to this year. I expect him to make it to the All-Star team next year, because i am sure he has a chip on his shoulder for not making it this year. We will see more of his leaping ability, and the offense revolved around him more, as suppose to RJ. I expect him to average around 24 PPG.

I expect him to play as well next year as he has in the final 2 months of the season this year.

Hopefully he plays with passion and desire from the begging of the season to the end. Not in late march when we are down to our necks.

That's a lil unrealistic, but I love your optimism. The past 2 months he's averaged up around 30ppg. That would probably make him the scoring champ and MVP.

He'll average more points. The same or more in assists and rebounds. He'll make the all-star team and hustle like he did since Kidd got traded. He'll also be the Finals MVP.

Okay, maybe not finals mvp.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I expect him to play as well next year as he has in the final 2 months of the season this year.</div>

Why? Carter feels it's necessary to play well when there's only 12-15 games left in the season.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I expect him to make it to the All-Star team next year, because i am sure he has a chip on his shoulder for not making it this year.</div>

I'm sure he's losing sleep over not making it this year. With the way he played 90% of the season; he didn't even deserve to be considered an All-Star selection.

If Vince is serious about being a leader than he has to play like he has been the last 2 months for the entire season. He is doing it with ease and if he gives effort he can do it for a whole seaoson..

The last 9 games he's averaging 30.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 5.4 apg, 48.5 FG% 47.7 3P% 84.1 FT%
The last 11 games he's averaging 29.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 5.0 apg, 50.3 FG%, 43.8 3P%, 86.5 FT%

Vince has shown he can do that every night when he's motivated so I expect that from him. he probably won't do that next season but that is what I expect.

He'll most likely have a better season next year than this season though. The Kidd trade helps VC because it may actually motivate him to be a leade rand VC plays better without Kidd because Vince likes to have the ball and create his own shot. Maybe Magic and Charles comments have motivated him too plus the ankle surgery will make him healthy. if he's doing what he's doing right now on a bad ankle then that is truly amazing.

is his surgery goin to be just to clean up some bone chips or something? or is it a major invasive procedure? i have a feeling its a minor surgery... like a same day procedure :/

The last 2 months (18 games) he's averaged 23.9 points, 7.3 points 4.6 assists 45% FG%, 37% 3P%
That's playing his best basketball.

Next season look for 22, 6 and 4.5 with around the same shooting %.

That's it.

You are right that's around what he'll average but that's not what I expect from Vince and what I mean is because of his talent I always expect more from Vince than what he ends up doing.

I think it's important to look at factors besides injuries

Since Jason Kidd went south (in so many ways), it?€™s been up to Vince Carter to fill a lot of voids on the Nets. Statistically, he?€™s done well. In spite of a bum ankle that will need surgery, he?€™s averaged 23.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists since mid-February ?€? and 29.5, 6.8 and 5.1 in the last 10. What?€™s the point? I expect that after he is traded, his stats start looking very impressive.

Haha, jizzy aint got shit on me.

Carter is going ta try harder next year, this year therer is the ankle problem and kidd problem.
Not to find excuses, cause i know he can always perform better than he does normally.

His new "leadership" role has caused him to set up others more and rebound more, thts also due to not scoring as much.

24,6,5 are good predictions.

Ohh common, any player who averages 20 PPG (which VC was averaging at lowest) that NBA player would be in the All-star selection ballet.

Lets just pray RJ makes it one day

Asside from the numbers though. Do you guys think he'll have his explosiveness back and be a game changer? When he had that cortizone shot he did seem to have more bounce. Does anyone know what kind of surgery it is though? Is it quick and easy or is he gonna have to rehab it all through the offseason? Anyway, I pray he comes back with a chip on his shoulder and goes 04-05 VC on the whole league and has an extremely awkward interview with Magic Johnson after he said Vince isn't a superstar anymore. I also hope he teabags Kidd on the way to the rim in the 09 Finals as we sweep them.

not only not a superstar anymore...magic said "HE CANT DO IT ANYMORE"..he cant get to the rim, he cant make up for his lack of explosiveness, he cant impact the game, he cant adjust to losing his hops...

basically, magic said that vince is a useless player.

now that vince is averaging 28, 8 and 5 since the playoff push began? magic is nowhere to be found.

BTW, i have an interview with magic for the YES network earlier this year "carter is still a very explosive player" and he can "get to the rim"....hypocrite in the greatest sense of the word.

I loved after Vince threw down that monster dunk on Mbenga Mark Jackson kept saying "look at that Magic JohnsoN" everytime VC went to the rim.

I am convinced Vince still has the ability to average 28-30 ppg, 6-7 rpg and 4-5 apg in a season he just has to be motivated for the entire season.

ditto. as we see now he is easily averaging 28 8 and 5 since the playoff push began. without kidd there, he feels more free and it shows. he stepped us a leader 2nd half of season. and believe me, he knows that he has to do it the whole season. he doesnt need us telling him to...he knows whats up

It's funny people would often argue VC only averages 25, 6 and 5 or whatever because of Kidd but I'd always argue VC would be better without Kidd because Vince is at his best when he has the ball and can create for himself/his teammates. People just didn't get that VC wasn't a product of Kidd in New Jersey. Aside from injuries one of the biggest problems for Vince and the Nets this year was Lawrence Frank tried to make Vince more of an off the ball player but that just isn't his style. When Vince has the ball he really makes his teammates better too because teams know if they don't double Vince he can have a huge night so they double him but he's an excellent passer too. Not only is he an excellent passer and a scoring threat he's also unselfish.

As far as his numbers next year one thing I think is almost a lock is he will average a career high in rebounds with Kidd gone for a full season.

I doubt he can average up near 30ppg. In his prime he was averaging 24-27ppg I don't see him all the sudden becoming the scoring champion and MVP..
