|0ffical| Drafting in the lotto

Welcome to our community

Portland needs another shooter especially at the 3 or 4. While not my favorite prospect, I would absolutely be thrilled if they were able to move up and select Markkanen.

STOMP
I like semi Oj as a 3/4 with the Cle pick

Jake goes off for 10 pts, 5 rebs and 2 blocks tonight!

Jake the snake is the Bosnian beasts new sidekick.??
goes off?

is he a "snake oil" salesman? last night he was 2/15 with 4 pts, guy looks like he can shoot but nothin ever seems to go in

Most of the tall PG's are going top-10, but there is Edmond Sumner, a preseason first-round prospect who did nothing to hurt his stock before tearing his ACL in January.

Seems like UCLA's Ike Anigbogu might be the defensive-minded rebounder you're looking for--presently projected at 19 by DraftExpress. Could easily backup both the PF and C spots.

And I bet you'd love Semi Ojeleye at SF--uber athletic at 6'7", and hit 43% from 3 this past year.
Ojeleye is the steal of the draft.

OG with the first pick and OJ with the last one. Then again, how many Aminu/Harkless clones do we need...?
I wouldn't call them clones.

OGs a better defender than both, and also longer. Has the potential to be better offensively than both.

Ojeleye is stronger, more athletic, a better shooter, and a better playmaker than both.

Of course not--they're all different; Aminu and Harkless aren't clones of one another either (despite the declarations of some). I was just using a lazy comparison because they're all good-defending, athletic, slashing 3/4 hybrid forwards. And I agree that it wouldn't be the worst idea to replace the two we have with the two we could draft.

We just need a ball handling wing that can shoot so we can trade Turner's contract. Justin Jackson would be perfect

From what I saw of Jackson, I wouldn't call him a ball handling wing. He's ok for 1-2 dribbles, but that's it.

Dwight Jaynes on Talkin Ball said the Blazers 3 picks don't hold as much value as people think.

Looks the part. I think I like Og's athleticism and length a bit more.

He does look the part. Somebody to keep our eyes on if we draft all 3 picks.

One thing you've always got to look for is defensive IQ. For example Draymond Green had a fantastic DIQ coming out of Michigan St. It is something that usually translates over, and something that some players will never learn.

Here is the breakdown on who we need to root for tonight: (this would have been so much simpler if we had lost to the Spurs!)
So, if you want the Blazers to end up with the best picks possible you should be rooting for:

  • Cleveland to lose and Utah, Toronto, and LA to win
  • Memphis to lose and Milwaukee to win—unless Cleveland wins (see variables below)
  • Either Miami or Chicago to win
  • Portland to lose (unless you just can’t bring yourself to root for that)
Some variables:

  • The Celtics are playing the Bucks, so the Bucks winning would help make sure the Blazers’ pick would be lower than 18, but by beating the Celtics they would make it possible for the Cavs’ pick to go up as high as 27 if Cleveland wins.
  • The Hawks and Pacers are playing each other. A win by the Hawks can make the Memphis pick better, but a win by Indiana can make Portland’s own pick better. Tough to tell which one to root for there.

Best case scenario after ties are broken are: 15, 19, and 23. Worst case: 18, 20, and 27.

We should know this by the end of the week when all the ping pong balls fall into place. There are some teams in the lotto who don't need a group of younger players, but someone like SAC, DAL, or NY, who need all the talent they can get. I would look at moving a pick between 6-10 for all three of ours. If there is a particular guy in the middle of the lotto that we're targeting, we can probably move up with the picks we have.

SAC traded #8 (Chriss) last year for #13 (PapaG) and #28 (Skal).
