Things are happening!

But "no decision has been made" says Nate and KP.

Odd scene at the end of today's Blazers practice at the team's workout facility in Tualatin, Ore.

Ime Udoka spent the last 15 minutes working on shooting drills....Udoka was then approached by Jarron Collins — who, like Udoka, is trying to win the team's 15th and final roster spot. Collins, who was wearing street clothes, walked up to Udoka, whispered something in his ear, and then walked away. Udoka looked caught off guard by the conversation, as did the Blazers assistant coach working with him. Meanwhile, Collins walked off the court — head pointed downward — waved and walked into the team's locker room. As soon as Collins left, Blazers coach Nate McMillan walked out, and said he needed to speak with Udoka. Practice was then closed.

McMillan said minutes before the exchange that no decision had been made about the team's roster spot. He added, though, that one would be made in the coming days. Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard also said minutes after the Collins-Udoka-McMillan exchange no decision had been made(emphasis added).

"It's not just Collins and Ime, it's (Patty) Mills," McMillan said. "So, that's something we'll talk about and that decision is coming up here quickly."

He added: "I'll talk about that with Kevin and (assistant general manager) Tom (Penn) and everybody who's involved with that, but it will be within the next day or so."

More practice notes from Brian Smith of the Columbian including all the injured dudes were at the practice.

Ime shooting...

Collins whispering : There is a bottle of champagne in a room at the Marriot be there at 7.

Nate: Did Jarron give you my message?

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Quick just said on 95.5 that Mills got the 15th spot. Nate isn't happy with it, and it's coming from above Nate and above KP. Some higher-up -- Vulcan maybe? -- to save money?

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Jason Quick has some breaking news for all of us.

The 15th spot will go to Patty Mills. The right choice as far as Im concerned. Yet, he sounds pissed about it.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Quick says it's non basketball related decision, sounds like it's Vulcan pulling the strings on this one.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Collins is going to Phoenix, and Ime has 2-3 teams interested in him.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Seems like the right decision to me.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Well it obviously can't be basketball related as Mills hasn't even practiced yet.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

I always wanted to see what Mills could do - but if this is not a basketball decision, it's ugly.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

What's the point if he's never going to develop?

I'd rather have Collin's and Udoka's veteran presence than Mills bench sitting.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Good on KP for settin up those guys with jobs.

Yeah, seems very unorthodox but a classy way when you're sending guys packing that you wanted to keep around.. or at least one of them.

Why do you assume KP is the one who set them up with jobs?

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Good..now if we can just get rid of a player so we don't have 3 players per position who want to play...

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

BPA is my best guess.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

To be honest. If Greg or Joel were hurt Collins wouldn't save us. And Ime is burried.

Yeah, we just added three more rookies to the roster. Crazy. Seemed like more of a Vulcan move than basketball-related to save a couple hundred thousand.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

How could a roster cut not be basketball related? It's not saving us money... So it has to be basketball related.

I disagree, I think this is a basketball decision.

This decision tells me that the Blazers think they can win with 14 guys on their roster and that Patty Mills might be able to help them a year or two down the road.

How many championship teams needed their 15th man?

I obviously don't know anymore than the rest of you. But I dont believe it's that. I think KP made the decision. He may not take credit for it. But I believe he did.

I feel its the right one.

Quick said he did, so I'm just going off on what he's saying right now on the radio. Could be wrong, who knows. Seems weird that Collins would already have a job when he was just cut.

No one is expecting them to play...but both players have been in the league for awhile now, and have had experiences in good systems like Utah and San Antonio.

It's not as if Mills would play either. He's got three people in front of him as opposed to two for Collins and Udoka.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Come on Guys I know veterans are important, but we added veterans in Andre and Howard who both will get regular playing time. Pendergraph and Mills won't even be healthy for a few months,a dn Collins nor Ime would have played either. TO me Joel, Steve, Brandon, Andre and Juwan should all be considered "Veteran presences" which is a 1/3 of our team, and I think a person could make a case for Rudy in that mix as well. Our younger players are becoming veterans and as championship windows start to open they will be veterans.

Good move.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

I think it was the right choice, because the Blazers already have multiple small forwards under contract, and multiple center/PF who can play center better than Collins under contract. So why keep one of those around when you can take a chance on a draft pick/project. I know folks don't think much of Mills, but there is a reason he is on this team. Part of that reason is because he impressed Nate in the Olympics. He was a fast guard who gave NBA players problems. You can't teach speed. Just like Dallas is finding out with Roderick Beubois right now.

Re: 15th Roster Spot (non) News

Hate it. Horrible decision. Mills will amount to squat, much like Sergio and Telfair did. But at least we've got that 4th PG, injured no less. Whew, that's a load off.

I actually agree, how could it not be basketball related?

I am pretty sure it is saving money, the vet minimum would be higher than what they are going to give Mills.

????

We have three point guards signed too. Now 4 wit Mills.

But Mills is a second rounder. His contract will end in two years max.

Hmmm maybe your expectations of what the 15th guy is going to do for the team, are just a little bit high? Let's get real here. If the 15th guy is playing, the Blazers are in trouble, period. Secondly, most players who are 15th guys on the roster, float in and out of the NBA, sometimes several times a year, or are trade filler at best. Why pay them a lot of money. A rookie is cheaper than a vet by far. I would want Paul Allen to pay millions of dollars a year for a player of Collins or Udoka's stature, to have them sit on the bench at #15. What a total waste of cap space, and Pauls money.
