What position do you think he'd play Zag? I'm thinking maybe tight end or fullback on offense, or LB on defense. I don't think he looks fast enough to be a RB or a receiver.

He's projected by most sites to wind up at DE. They say his frame could hold another 25 pounds easy.

Here's rivals take on him. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrec...yerla-96622;_ylt=AvRkjWACR.KGVYqL9z1qvshGPZB4

On the Hoof: Lyerla's frame could hold another 25 pounds. He has to be the spitting image of Brian Urlacher when he was a senior at the University of New Mexico.
Needs Improvement: He plays running back in high school, which is one of the few positions he does not project at in college. Getting reps at tight end, defensive end or linebacker is a necessity for the mental part of the game to take hold.
Most Impressive: He is an athletic anomaly who can test off the charts - even at the NFL combine - right now. Lyerla has superior overall body structure and could project at several positions at the next level. He is athletic enough to play receiver or safety at some colleges.
Conclusion: The last athlete that had this much physical size and talent while playing running back in high school was Julius Peppers. Lyerla could excel at multiple positions. Which position he'll play in college will really depend on how quickly he can have an impact for his team at a certain spot

Jesus we gotta make sure that kid doesnt leave the state!

I want to see him as a linebacker, maybe tight end. Fullback's aren't really used in a Chip Kelly spread.

I've read before where the kid can lay some lid with the best of them.

My good buddy from work was actually teammates of Polamalu at Douglas high school down by Roseburg. He said that Polamalu was actually a dynamic running back in high school. But he loved hitting so in college he played safety exclusively. There's not a player who I respect more in the NFL than Polumalu.

Also, Kailee Wong who had an pretty good NFL career as a linebacker was a great running back in high school at North Eugene. I think he held (or still holds) the rushing record for the state of Oregon. In fact, Bill Walsh promised him both offense and defense at the college level. In the NFL he was primarily a linebacker and carved out a nice career.

Safety is easily my favorite position, followed by linebacker. I love defensive players and I love hits. As much as I want to see him at LB or DE, I would really like to see him with the ball. It would be fun to see him at TE a few snaps per game. I think that guy could be like a Jeremy Shockey. I couldn't find the video from Shockey's rookie season of him running over that defender, but that's what I'm thinking of.

If he wants an easy route to the NFL, being a TE at Oregon is just that.

Let me think of all the Oregon tight ends in the NFL off the top of my head:

Peelle
Rosario
Wrighster
Day
Dickson
Willie Walden should have been...

hmmmm....This is just in the last 10 years, am I missing anyone..

And I really wouldn't be surprised if DJ Davis was next on that list. I just think this guy looks like he's the kind of TE that would do well in yards after the catch. He can really knock some heads.

Davis isn't a tight end though. Paulson is the tight end, with Brandon Williams and Malachi Lewis backing him up.

he the size/athleticism be a college TE, DE, LB or even a huge Safety. Dude runs really really well, I wouldn't eliminate WR if thats what he has set his heart on. The review from Rivals that Da_O posted where they say he tests off the charts for even a college player is no joke... there are youtube videos of him doing a no-step vertical jump test posting nearly a 40" vert and another of him repeatedly jumping on top of 5' high boxes (with no steps) as part of a workout.

the other rumor on him is that he's really struggling with his grades and might have to go the JC route

Paulson will be in the NFL as well.

That's really too bad. I think it's sad that some guys have the physical talents, but don't have the grades to go to a college like UO.

I'm hoping thats just a rumor about Lyerla.

Happened to a top 50 recruit D-lineman we got a couple years ago from Central Catholic named Myles Wade.

To answer your question about Davis, he's only 6'1" 205lbs.

Man, if I had D1 talent, I would AT LEAST get a 2.5 GPA

Coaches usually find a way to make that happen. I know a couple guys who played D1 basketball. They said they knew teammates who would have never been able to play at a particular school, but they were appointed tutors in college and things just seemed to happen for them, they kept their grades. These are "clean" schools were talking about too.

Yeah, my acting professor at (won't say which school) told me that he used to teach at a D1 school and that the athletic department came to him and said that such and such player was not allowed to fail the class. My professor said, "but he IS failing my class. He isn't doing the work." and they told him, we don't care, he IS going to pass the class or you will not have a job. So my teacher said that he went to the kid and asked him what he wanted to work on. In the end, he helped the guy work on doing interviews or some shit.

Hopefully moreso now than ever Lyerla can get his grades in order. Scout has him as High Interest now for the Ducks with everyone else Medium. According to Scout he is visiting USC on Saturday and UCLA on Dec 4th... but I read sumors.. I think weareSC.com saying that Lyerla was at the game on Saturday. (which could possibly explain the change in interest level for the Ducks) :)

It seems to me that Oregon isn't getting as much love as they should from recruits this year. They are destroying people, and are on national tv a lot.

Colt has been to many Duck games and practices in Eugene as a VIP. I've a rivals account and have seen pix and read reports. The other program he is supposed to be highly interested in is the Sooners

a lot of that stuff doesnt really get updated on until after the kids take their visits. From what I've noticed at least. I dont put much stock into what kids say/dont say this time of year though, as they are just that, 17/18 year old kids who change their mind so much. Huff was comitted to TCU until Signing day he switched over to Oregon. Seastrunk would have been a Trojan if Carroll was still there. Heimuli was thought to be a UCLA lean or Utah lean IIRC. I absolutely love National LOI day though.. so much changed lol.

The Ducks only have like 11 something commits. Teams usually end up with 23 to 25 commits each year. By the end of the year, we'll start seeing dividends from the National exposure, and especially if we win the National Championship.

If they win the NC, you can bet the commits will come rolling in.

What makes you think that?

Just early perception I guess? A lot of PAC schools are landing better classes thus far, and I think that's odd given the Ducks success the past two years, and especially this year. I guess I just figured more kids would have been flocking to Oregon and their fast paced offense. They very well still might do that, I just thought it would happen sooner rather than later.

The visits are just starting to pick up. This saturday is HUGE with 7 Players coming to visit (one already committed though) The 3 teammates from Gardena CA, who are all 4* rated players the #5 WR - George Farmer, the #5 OLB- Jason Gibson, and the #9 Safety Marqise Lee. Also a 4* WR in Devon Blackman, and the 4* OL who is already committed Andre Yruretagoyena. also 3* players Dontae Livingston and B.J. Kelley.

It will pick up.. but they are already ahead of where they normally are recruiting wise. They already have 3 ESNPU 150 commits. Normally they only finish with that on signing day.
