Lol that would be great wouldn't it?

It would take the UW fans and their sanctions conspiracy to a whole new level.

haha no kidding.. The only reason UW is in consideration is cause Tosh is there.. no other reason anyone would wanna play for them.

Shaq is definitely going to announce on signing day. D1 on DT talked to him personally and Shaq said he wont announce after signing day.

Nothing on how Arik's in-home went but Justin said he will do a write up on Sunday about both Armstead and Thompson's in home visits.

Does anyone think if we get Armstead we will get Shaq as well? I feel like they are going to tandom up.

PapaG/MJA, what makes you guys believe Tosh is bashing CAL since his move to UW? He can sell UW without going negative towards Cal. I'm a Husky fan, but grew up watching the ducks, so it's not like I hate Oregon or anything. I just haven't read anything, other than Cal and Oregon fans complaining, about Tosh bashing Cal in order to get recruits to flip to UW. The one kid that has switched so far (I can only think of one) went to UCLA, not UW. It just seems like overreaction by Oregon fans because he went to UW.

Hey Porkchopexpres,

Thanks for asking for clarification. Everything I'm reading leads me to believe that Tosh is poaching and doing so in a dirty matter. When "Sark" moved to UW he purposefully did not speak to any of the USC recruits out of respect. Tedford didn't try to steal Ducks when he fled to Cal.

This is something that is just understood in college football. You don't poach the people you recruited when you worked elsewhere. Maybe it's happened before, but I really have never seen anything like this and I've followed college ball a good portion of my life. It leads me to believe that it was a condition of his outrageous salary / higher. If so, can't you see what is wrong with that?

For my part, I just think it's bad for the players themselves. You really sell yourself and a university to a young player, make them believe, make them promises, and then try to convince them to go elsewhere? In this case Tosh had been working on Thompson for years, putting himself in a special place as a mentor. I think he is abusing that position, and I think others here agree.

I don't care if he is using negative recruiting (which sounds like the case) or if he is being nothing but positive. It's bush league to steal recruits from your old team. It says bad things about UW that this seems to be their entire recruiting plan this year. It's dirty. It's akin to a Raiders "Just Win Baby" attitude. It's not what college football is about to me.

Also, see my other post, where UW partisans are trying to spread rumors that Chip is leaving??? Again, BUSH LEAGUE. CLASSLESS. It makes me thankful that the Ducks have been able to succeed without resorting to such tactics.

Hope that clarifies my position,
MJA

When I said it was odd that all three of the top recruits on defense in the west were going to Cal, many here said I was stirring the pot and I too was called "bush league" by a poster for it! Tosh splits Cal, and guess what? So do their coveted recruits... Ellis now a Bruin, Shaq and Arik maybe Puppies following their money bone and two other of Cals top recruits are looking around as we speak.....

So was it the big city and proximity to home that many here said was the reasoning for these players decisions at first? Perhaps the massive investment into their athletic facility and their wonderful campus? Hmmmm.... Guess we'll find out in a week huh?

I've heard Washington has no shot at landing Arik....none. Secondly, everyone told you that relationships with the coaches is higher priority than success for a PSA. I'm not seeing this alleged conspiracy you speak of.

http://blogs.sacbee.com/preps/archives/2012/01/arik-armstead-i.html

"He's very witty. I had a good meeting with him. He changed my perspective on Oregon a little more. I asked him about the Tampa Bay Bucs job (that he nearly accepted last weekend). He told me he couldn't guarantee me that he'd be at Oregon my entire career if I went there, but that's ok, because I understand it's part of the job, and when you're successful, other teams will want you as a coach. I'd rather have that than play for a coach who isn't as successful."

Da_O,

Thanks for that article! Sounds like Chip has done everything he can. It also sounds like he kept positive, unlike representatives from certain other schools...

Whatever happens, I'd say there's nothing more we could have done on this guy. Here's hoping!

MJA

Division1a over on DT says he has a pretty close relationship with Arik, and he's saying that it's down to Cal and us. We gave it our best shot so let's hope for the best.

Armstead's "in-home" with UW was actually in a hotel conference room that UW set up for him. Isn't that a violation?

I really have no idea. I'm not sure Sark would be so foolish to blatantly make a violation like that.

Da_O

Tosh is barely a coach. He's was a weak Dline coach a Cal,not even a Defensive Coordinator.... for that he's being paid half a million a year at UW. His body of work has been laughable at Cal as a coach. His "RECRUITING" however has gotten him top recruiter of the year award from rivals! The thing you've not heard from Shaq, Ellis or Arik is how much they liked Tedford his system or how they think the'll fit into it. Don't ya think that's important too, being he's the head coach and all?

So for Shaq to be following his recruiter this way seems odd to me but let's not stretch the coaching fantasy. Tosh wasn't hired for his X's and O's! He was hired for his 5* ability.

Let's keep our finger's crossed. If we get Arik, we may get a last minute switcharoo with Shaq, like what De-Anthony Thomas did.

Puppie fans(no offense to any UW fans in this thread though) are jelly and of course, feel power behind a keyboard.

Lol that would be great wouldn't it?

It would take the UW fans and their sanctions conspiracy to a whole new level.

Oh the butthurt...it would be tremendous.

Oh Fates, make this happen. Please make this happen.
SportsTwo is always looking for new sections to open up and new mods. If you want to start up a USC Football forum and want to mod it I'm sure that can be arranged.

SportsTwo is a lot more laid back with a lot less rules than most sports forums.

Oh my. I'm flattered, a new person like me becoming a mod of a USC sub-forum. I would be happy to though.

Isn't Tosh the coach that pulled out some bush league soccer shit a couple years back and had his players fall down like they were injured play after play?

I've never thought of Cal as having a vaunted defense. Sure, they've had some good D-Lines with guys like Cameron Jordan. But, I think it was strictly a recruiting thing for UW hiring him. UW is a mess in recruiting this year, awful, with in-state guys bolting left and right.

A few things on your guys responses. First, yes some Husky fans (especially a few found on Scout) are jealous of your success. Some on there are just morons (like one guy claiming Josh Garnett should pick UW over Stanford because it would help him get into UW's med school). But I don't think you can take the Scout message board and decide that all Husky fans think that same way. It'd be the same as if you read our Blazer board and read Mixum or Odenisgod (or whatever his name was). It's a free board and that will attract some idiots. I always read how bad UW fans are towards ducks. When I was up there for Christmas, I saw plenty of people wearing UO gear, without a single problem. I don't doubt there are incidents, but no more than with Oregon fans or fans of any other school.

Back to the non fan issues. I'm pretty sure I read that Tosh's salary is 350k. Not chump change, but not 500k either. Our O-Line coach will make 300k, so not that much less. I agree that his recruiting is one reason why he was hired. Cal seems to think he was the heir apparent for their D-coordinator spot. Wilcox seems like only a short term hire before he bolts for a head coaching job. Maybe Tosh becomes our D-coordinator in a couple years, who knows.

About coaches not poaching recruits, it happened this year. To UW. After Mora was hired at UCLA, he hired our D-backs coach and immediately his recruits followed. Some were angry and said it wasn't fair, etc, but most accepted it as part of the business.

About the faked injuries, I think it was widely speculated that Tedford threw Tosh under the bus on this one. If I see us do this though, I'll throw up.

For that picture, it may be a violation. I don't follow everything too closely, so I don't know what is and what isn't a violation. If it was one, even if minor, that'd be really dumb of Sark.

Anyways, I doubt UW gets any of these guys. Maybe one, but I won't hold my breath on it. Regardless, we should still finish 2nd in the north. As long as our defense isn't historically bad again, I'll be happy. I'll be rooting for the duck every week but 1 so if they end up in Eugene I won't be mad.

I'm not sure how PSA recruiting fallout at Cal after their main recruiter left is an indication your paranoia about illegal recruiting from them held any water. Relationships are the basis of recruiting. With Tosh leaving Cal verbals lost their main connection with Cal so it only makes sense that those guys are checking out other schools who they have a relationship with. Now Washington is the one paying recruits??? :MARIS61:

Ellis Mac was always expected to stay in LA even by Cal fans after he verbally committed to them. Like Da O, I've heard the Fuskys have been eliminated from AA's consideration and it's down to Cal-Oregon. I'm hearing UW is on the outside looking in at Cal Oregon and even UCLA on Shaq as well.

there are posters on UW and Cal boards with the same sort of tinfoil hat conspiracies about Oregon paying recruits as well. Be better then that

It's understandable. I mean, UCLA hates USC due to their recruiting crop and coaching.

I would see UW finished either 2nd or 3rd in the north, depending on whether Stanford hangs on after loosing Luck. Pac-12 title game is obviously a given(USC and UO).

But if Oregon is in the top 2, are they exempt from the title game or still play? And would Washington end up in like, the top 15 if possible?

I'm pretty sure I read that Tosh's salary is 350k. Not chump change, but not 500k either.

I've read his contract is a 3 year deal at 350K per year with an additional 100K up front and another 100K if he stays for all 3 years... plus a boat. I've not read what sort of boat we're talking about, but thats how people get up to 500K average.

About the faked injuries, I think it was widely speculated that Tedford threw Tosh under the bus on this one. If I see us do this though, I'll throw up.

it's pretty hard to see it any other way. I was at that game and watched Cal's players laughing it up as player after player limped off the field... guys were literally getting high fives after they stepped on the sidelines and like Kaiser Soze magically lost their limp. One of the "injured" guys was doing the flying chest bump thing following a stop by their D mere snaps after he hobbled off. After seeing this same lame tactic vs Stanford and ASU, Oregon fans were booing the charade loudly. For Tedford to claim he was unaware is obviously ridiculous. Hopefully the national shaming of Cal buries this BS for good.

As always STOMP you SUH over the point and forget the logic of what I'm saying which seems to help you feel important in your judgemental world... Please refrain from making psychological assessments on posters I seriously doubt you have the credentials to do so. That said..... I never said UW was paying these players!

My thought is there's something very strange with the way Tosh is getting these players and he alone is who I'm sketchy about!

As for Ellis McCarthy after he visted Oregon he wrote that the Ducks would be very tough to beat and we were now the top of his list!

Don't let the facts get in the way again Stomp, might hurt your next psych eval! HAHAHAHA!

As I've said before Stomp you're not the only person who's played college ball here think about that before trying to come off as an expert on recruiting k? Illegal recruiting has been going on for decades it's not far of stretch to think how Cal went from a virtually unknown 2012 class to a top 10 in under 3 months with a 500 record and a bowl loss and yes Tedford has been on the hot seat for a year now. So tie that into rivals #1 recruiter Tosh and the fact he's now bolted and I raise an eyebrow while he still trying to poach Shaq and Arik after talking them into Cal.

I call it like I see it!

So either though Ellis is committed to UCLA(bad move IMO), could he change his mind and go to Oregon?

Also, any news yet?

What I've heard is that Chip and crew didn't get back with him! No sure why, but it seems they didn't pursue him after initial visit to Eugene.....

Shaq also said that Oregon was out of the running, and guess where we are now. These are 17-18 year old kids. Minds change.... a lot.

I call it like I interpret it!

Wow! "I call it like I see it" and you need to edit my opinions Wheels? WOW!

Please don't allow this board to turn into a place where posters are not allowed to have different opinions without being pack dog attacked by the regular crew, or soon this very SELDOM used and SEEN Duck board will be hearing crickets.

I expect better out of a mod! You're supposed to be neutral and not allow things to get nasty here, not editing posters words to fit "YOUR INTERPRETATIONS"

You didn't??? Guess how this reads... "Shaq and Arik maybe Puppies following their money bone"

relationships genius. By all accounts, dude is very charismatic. He was selling Cal which on top of being him alma mater and one of the best academic Universities in the land, is seeing a massive upgrade in it's facilities. Of course your earlier conspiracy theories didn't include that fact as you called their facilities crap.

As for Ellis McCarthy after he visted Oregon he wrote that the Ducks would be very tough to beat and we were now the top of his list!

right, and then later on (according to him) we stopped calling him. I've told you this before but it doesn't fit into your nonsense so you just skip over it

might wanna check your post again amigo.

unless you were literally saying that you are calling it like you see it, cause you have seen something? If so I implore you to report it, all of us would have a better chance of being much MUCH happier on Feb 1st

So, do we have an idea on who might be a True Freshman and who may start this year? I know Kyle Long will for sure.

And there's he starting QB job between Mariota or Bennett. Or Kelly could try to make J-Rod a True Freshman and develop him like how USC did with Barkley, but of course that means no Pac-12 title as we WILL lose some games.

And since we won't get Shaq we may not get Armistead either?

Well...at least we got Blair and Buckner. And Pharoah Brown looks to be a promising TE.

with the depth of high caliber athletes this team has now. I dont think any Freshman start this year, unless we get Shaq somehow, then maybe.

The Money Bone is Tosh Genius! Try if you can, to draw a line to the common denominator OK! Tosh #1 recruiter on rivals this year a company that was created and run by HUSKIE alum... now Tosh making 300k + with new job where? UW, are ya following me here Stomp? Do ya need a flair gun and a map? Now Tosh going after Arik and Shaq once again...

Hey genius? Ya really think Tosh is selling schools now? Some of your other dribble you were selling the thought that Cal was the bomb with campus, faciltites and so on... now your saying it's Tosh's relationship with the players and cleary that trumps the school and the head coach, and how they'll fit in, the proximity to thier families and everything else. Pick a side Stomp and try and stick to it.
