I really doubt they scouted him at any point. At rivals anyway, a 2* is almost always someone they haven't followed... and he's a 2* there too.

Ah but they have, according to Matt Prehm and Justin Hopkins, he was fully reviewed and they agree with his ranking wholeheartedly.

Hopkins
"I trust JC Shurburtt and his evaluation of Pisarcik. Personally I also didn't see anything that made me go "wow""

Prehm
"I think Pisarick's ranking is solid. He doesn't come from a state known to produce a lot of elite players and a telling sign is that some of the local D1 schools hadn't pulled the trigger."

As for Rivals, I might agree with you if Pisarcik was ranked a 2 star before, but as it is he was NR then evaluated recently. with all the stuff they have to do heading towards signing day, who knows if they will get around to re-evaluating him.

Scout hasn't ranked him yet.

ESPN however ranked him recently and seem to think more highly of him than Brenner. Not great still but a 3* 76 ranking in their system #48 OG. Not great and number is less than 247. But keep in mind that ranking system is different and 247 has him ranked past toe top 100 OG.

but yeah, 247 says they have scouted him and both of the Oregon duck site staff state they fully agree with the ranking. So... your kind of wrong there. :sherlock:

247 this year has been dropping the ball all season long this year though.

what does fully reviewed mean? Did this JC Shurburtt guy attend any of his games? Did they have full game tape on him? I watch that highlight tape and see an athletic OLine prospect who can really move his feet... that can't be faked. I don't know what sort of motor, work ethic or personal character he's got, but if the listed size is legit he sure seems like a decent prospect and can understand Oregon's interest.

I suspect they watch the highlight tape then the full game tape they can get a hold of. Here from their site " The rankings are determined by our recruiting analysts after countless hours of personal observations, film evaluation and input from our network of scouts. "

Because he is from a small HS, I doubt they attended the games at all and just watched the game tape.

but we don't know that game tape is available as they didn't reference reviewing any let alone attending games. As you noted he comes from a small school and for all we know "fully reviewed" means looking at everything available and thats just his highlight tape which they looked at in the last couple days. Obviously the sweeping statement of how they determine their rankings is overall and doesn't apply to each kid that they rate.

As a late bloomer, it's fully possible that he just flew under the collective radars of the various sites putting a little egg on their faces. Rivals contributors have thrown up their hands in a mea culpa saying it happens. My suspicion is that Hoffman doesn't want to imply that his site is infallible or let on how little insight they truly have.

Stomp telling it like is!

Hey Stomp? Be it that you played for the Ducks, are an expert recruiting "follower", and understand the players, their parents, scouts, and are obviously a non "BANDWAGON FAN" as you claim to be! Can you tell us how many recruits you've broken the news on that have become Ducks in say the last TWO years? Now let me clarify, a player you had the "in on" and posted about on this forum, and that said recruit did become a duck? I mean past all your amazing football knowledge "which we love", you telling people about how to play a position "which is tremendous" and treating everyone as if they've never seen a football field until you drew one up, it appears to me one thing is missing besides your title of Oregon DUCKS GOD!!

Know what that is........

In the two years of following your self righteous dribble you've never been on the "in" of knowing any recruit that's ever come to the Ducks before any of these worthless sites "in your words" like " Bleacher, Rivals and Scout" broke the news first! Why is that? I mean you are Autzens Finest right?

French wasn't last year, he was two years ago same class as Lyerla. I also don't count LB's as DL so 5.

He's still considered a freshman. I find it odd that people are shitting their pants over the D-line when it is the youngest unit on the team outside of Dion Jordan and Isaac Remington.

AT DE it is, but we are talking about DT. We want more than just 2014 freshmen to complete when we lose Hemulli, Keliikipi, and ebert next year.

This year we lose Hart and Remington
Next year Hemulli, Keliikipi, Ebert

That leaves Balducci at NT with no great rotational help except for maybe a freshmen, and finding a starting NT with the right weight and agility is difficult.

For our DT spot we have Bair with the same issue.

We seem to have really strong DE core, now some of them could bulk up and play some relief DT like Armstead did this year. (though he's planning on slimming down for basketball and more of a pure DE fashion.)

A 250-260 DE can take a spell at DT, but Ideally our starter is a fast 300. And at NT I would say 280 at least is required because they often have to deal with two linemen.

Next year we should be good, but I would like to see someone step into this class to compete with Balducci in the future at NT and maybe support DT more. And we seem to have wiffed on all our targets that can do that. Pagano, Vanderdoes, Etuale, Bostwick, Adams, ect.

according to Adam Gorney two days ago, rivals has not scouted/evaluated him... he would know.

247 reports Despite quotes from Wilson, that they feel Dontre Wilson has a good chance of flipping to another team.

ESPN is reporting that LB/TE Danny Mattingly has committed to Oregon

Yay a new duck. He's certainly an athlete, but I did have several LB targets I was more interested above him because Danny always seemed more focused on wanting to be a TE. One of the reasons why he initially committed to ND.

I really do hope we take at least one more LB target even with Robinson/Walker/Mattingly.

I also was not expecting Mattingly's commit.

Me niether. Hope we can get Zach Cunningham though. That would give us LBs for the future and not have to worry. He can redshirt this year and eventually be a starter come the year after next.

PK looks more solid to Stanford per Rivals. Was a long shot depending on him not getting into Stanford.

If we do go after one more LB, look for it either to be Cunningham or maybe a late swing to switch Jack's commitment, or Goeas.

I would say Mitchell and PK are probably out for us, or at least very very very unlikely.

Goeas?

I'm still on board with Cunningham. Only other major programs offering him are Auburn, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt, and 2 of the 3 are in rebuild mode. Vanderbilt is rising and whats not to like about that school? But Oregon would give him a good chance to start

starting next year??? Dude is listed 200 lbs so he won't be in the mix for Kiko or Jordan's spot and I very much doubt he's beating out Lokombo. Clay's spot is available but Derrick Malone looks to have the inside track as he showed well last year. My guess is that ZC would redshirt as they've many other capable Sophomores/Jrs. lurking for PT

Danny played both TE and LB in HS. While I'm not sure where he'll play at Oregon, here's an early December quote from him via rivals... "Right now, I think every school recruiting me is looking at me both on offense and defense and it could go either way," Mattingly said. "I like playing both so that doesn't really make the biggest difference."

247 has listed 5 players they are believe will commit to oregon, if it is like any of their previous lists they are most certainly wrong.

I recall their list from last year not being very accurate. Nonetheless, curious as to their 5 probables

In a rivals interview put out today, Danny Mattingly stated he will be a MLB at Oregon in the mold of Kiko. He described his opportunity as "awesome" and his recruitment as "all done"

that gives them 3 LBs verbally committed... Tyrell Robinson, Walker & Mattingly

this news makes me very happy. Kiko was a 3* (5.5) LB according to rivals. Mattingly is 3* (5.7 so borderline 4*) Kiko turned out to be pretty good. Also further solidifies my thoughts that our past ceilings in LB recruits are our current floors.

Kiko took the full 4 years to develop prior to his senior year and had a hard time so much so between sophomore and junior years he almost didn't remain on the team.

He wasn't an instant stud, and Oregon is very good at coaching players up. This year we have opening in who starts at LB, and would be nice to have found that player who can compete right away to push everyone in the group to improve. Maybe Mattingly is it.

Oh I know he wasnt an instant stud. He def had his mostly mental mistakes. But he was also less thought of as a 3* than Mattingly as well, was mostly what I was getting at. :)

I'm already penciling in Coleman and Lokombo as 2 starters (Tony Washington makes 3 of 4 if some count him as an LB)
