Chad Ford chat:

mike b (Houston)

What is Houston's best plan if Howard doesn't come? Please don't say Bynum.
Chad Ford (1:50 PM)

If you want a Top 3 center -- I do think Bynum is probably the guy. Incredible risk, but especially for a team like Dallas, what else are you going to do? Houston could stay pat. Atlanta can just go into full tank mode. Not sure Dallas can do that. I think Rockets much more likely to add another wing or try to pry away LaMarcus Aldridge from the Blazers or Al Horford from the Hawks.

Julio Soto (Dominican Republic)

What the lakers should do if Howard doesn't resign?
Chad Ford (1:52 PM)

If Howard really does decide on the Rockets, I think a sign-and-trade that needs the Omer Asik is probably the best they can do. Besides, that's really how Kobe wanted Howard to play anyway -- as his 7 foot personal rebounder.

How 'bout Aldridge for Monroe, Stuckey, Draft pick?

Much rather have Drummond. I'm reallt down on Monroe because his defense is horrible and he hasnt shown any real improvement in that area. He also is going to get paid a ton next season. If we got monroe I'd use him as trade bait later.

Then no deal. Fuck taking on Monroe

Think ahead about 7 months to the trade deadline. At that point it's going to become clear that LMA is going to leave for when his contract runs out. Are the deals for him likely to get better or worse at that point? The team's that will be chasing him the hardest will be those looking for a playoff boost, which means their compensation will be mostly late first round draft picks and young players that aren't pivotal to their success (everybody else will be looking to tank or jettison money)

So is Monroe a great prize alone? Hmmm ... I dunno, maybe not, but he's still young and he's got an interesting skill-set, but if you paired him up with an unprotected (likely) lottery pick in what many think will be a very good draft I'd say that's a pretty decent haul for a player you are about to lose any leverage over.

Oh I understand what you are trying to say; but I'd rather do a straight up swap for Horford; maybe even get a pick out of it. I just don't want Monroe because his defense is just terrible.

If this is a rebuild, then adding Horford just doesn't make much sense to me. The idea is to add guys on their rookie scale deals to keep your cap number low and turn one asset into multiple. That trade to me is almost a straight wash and I don't see how the Hawks would consent to adding a pick.

The pick would be from acquired from the Houston trade for Smith! ;)

There is absolutely no reason ATL would do Horford for LMA.
It makes no sense, for either team really.

Still think we should wait for them to strike out, then offer Batum Meyers and Barton for Horford.

Poor Houston. They are going to have to wait forever for Howard to make his decision.

Your love of Boozer has already pegged you as someone who cares only about offense. In fact, you've even praised Vinny Del Negro as a coach...

Actually, Asik is good at a lot of things. He's a younger Joel Przybilla - knows all the intricacies of team defense, sets picks, rebounds at an elite level. If all it takes to play defense is to have Thibodeau teach you, then how come Boozer never learned?

Yes, Asik is extremely challenged on O, but he can make cuts and rolls to the hoop and doesn't blow dunks, even if he blows layups.

No, they're not "trying to replace him", they're trying to land DWIGHT HOWARD. Who happens to play Asik's position. Houston loves Chandler Parsons, but if they thought they could get Kevin Durant they'd be "trying to replace" him, too.

Oh, and now they say they want to keep him.

I value two way players. But if you have a one way player, he better be elite at either offense or defense, or he'll hurt more than help.

BTW, 82games.com says Boozer was a 18.1 PER at PF and opposing PFs had a 14.7 PER against. He also had 2nd most defensive win shares on the Bulls team. So maybe Thibs is working his magic with him.

If I thought my C position was set and had a need at PF or PG, I might actually go after a guy who fills the need.

Perhaps part of why the LMA to GS rumors seemingly came back out yesterday? Dwight, Steph, and LMA? Add in that they'd still have Lee or Bogut and Thompson or Barnes.

Milwaukee is nearing a deal to sign free agent guard O.J. Mayo, league sources tell Y Sports.

Love them Bucks

If Lebron James was interested in coming to the Blazers, but we are "set' because we have Batum, I don't purse a second tier SG or C, I purse LeBron fucking James.

C'mon dude.

Just out of boredom and curiosity what moves would we have to make to have room for LBJ and still keep LMA and Dame?

I'd want Bogut, Thompson AND Barnes.

They can go fuck themselves.

They dont even have caproom for Dwight, I do not believe.

I love LMA but I would have to consider that. It gives us flexibility to make more moves and would open up cap space with Bogut next right?

Not that they would but I think I would have to do that.

LeBron is one of the greatest players ever. Howard? Really?

Trade Batum for nuts. Don't pick up the option on Meyers, trade Freeland for nuts. Probably package him with Batum.

Hard to say without knowing the contracts we will sign this offseason.

I'd settle for Thompson/Bogut/picks

The potential of a Lillard/McCollum/Thompson lineup is very intriguing.

PG- Lillard
SG - CJ
SF - Klay

Modern day run-TMC

Asset. Acquisition. I'd probably let Bogut walk and see what young gun we could overpay for.

Howard is easily the most dominant center currently playing, and no one is really even close to him.

Howard doesn't win championships, even with Kobe or a really deep team. The upgrade for them at PF to someone like Josh Smith would be greater than Asik -> Howard.
