agree with that. if we suck for like the 4th year a in row, it's hard to blame him for wanting to leave.

It's what he hasn't said that makes me believe he's very willing to move on if things don't change

Well no shit. If the team sucks going into the final year of his deal, and he wants to win, why would he stay in Portland? I've yet to hear from anyone how the Blazers get better by trading LMA for either Crappy Carlos Boozer, or Joakim Noah (who would be expiring the same time as LMA, fwiw, and has no reason to feel connected to the Blazers), or draft picks, or Derrick Favors, or Omer Asik, etc. etc.

What kind of fool would say they are definitely staying in Portland after their contract. Has any UFA said that in recent years with two years left on their deal, and stayed with the team longer than the two years?

Well can play the whole semantics game about Aldridge perhaps technically not asking to be traded.

Make no mistake about it, though. He's definitely open to the possibility, and he definitely hasn't said he's committed here long-term. That kind of leads you to the fact that Aldridge has already started looking past his 2 years left in Portland at other possibilities.

No one will make the argument that the Blazers get better by trading Aldridge. What they will say is being a .500 team won't keep Aldridge here (last I checked the Blazers look like a .500 team), and if that's the case, then trade him now instead of being a pointless .500. Don't delay it.

You will eat those words by mid season.

We'll see

I highly doubt the Blazers acquire championship pieces by then

I don't think we need to be a championship contender. We need to make it out of the first round. We do that and surely he stays.

You don't really hedge your bets, do you Mags? You're one of those guys who like to go down with the ship?

I don't see how sticking with Aldridge and bringing in talent is "going down with the ship"? If Aldridge stays and olshey brings in more talent; it only helps us.

Because you want to ride it to the end and hope that Aldridge re-signs in two years. That's going down with the ship imo.

At the very least, wouldn't you say that we should ride out the year, offer him a max deal next summer, and if he doesn't sign it then trade him?

That's fine. I think that's a telling sign and we'd still get great value for him anyway.

The Lakers acquired Dwight Howard from the Magic in a four team trade. The Lakers received Chris Duhon and Earl Clark in the deal as well. They gave up Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga, a protected future 1st round pick, and a 2015 protected 2nd round pick to the Magic. They also sent Andrew Bynum to the 76ers.

The Magic got McRoberts, Eyenga, a 1st and a 2nd round pick and cap space from the Lakers. They also got Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic, Moe Harkless, and a protected 1st round pick from Denver and the Sixers.

For Dwight Howard.

They would have gotten a lot more for him if they traded him a year earlier.

Down with the ship.

serious question...do you even follow basketball?

Yes I do. The NBA.com article didn't mention the Nuggets' role in the deal. I edited my post to reflect the additional players.

Down with the ship. Orlando went from 37-29 in the strike shortened season to a 20 win team with that haul.

You don't value wins?

You think they're rebuilding around guys with 12 PERs?

You think Denver's or the Lakers' draft picks are likely to be below #20 in the draft?

If they traded Howard a year earlier, they'd have gotten more for him.

There were several teams that didn't want to risk giving up a lot of assets for him to have him bolt after a season.

There is a BIG difference between trading a disgruntled star who says he won't resign (Melo) and Hoping to resign a disgruntled star who wants out (Dwight). Orlando figured they could talk Dwight into signing an extension, they couldn't so they traded a player who COULDN'T sign an extension to his contract and coming off back surgery therefor diminishing his value. Also the Dwight deal was also looked down on as one of the worst trades the magic could do, right up there with Harden for the haul OKC got. BTW what Orlando actually got for dwight was, Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga, Maurice Harkless, Nikola Vucevic, Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, and draft picks;
