Is there a reason why LA wouldn't pursue a S&T for Asik if Dwight came up to them and said he wanted to sign in HOU?

Houston's reason to agree to that would be as a favor to Howard, to ensure he gets a bigger contract. But they could sell him on the idea that if they just sign him, they can surround him with better talent.
Reason why LA might not want Asik: they want to maximize cap room for the incredible 2014 FA group.

The Spurs are among a batch of eight teams that are in contact with free agent center Greg Oden, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

Oden’s promising young career was derailed by a series of knee and lower leg injuries. The top pick in the 2007 draft saw action in just 82 games over five seasons — the last in December 2009 — before he was waived by Portland in 2012. He averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks with a 19.5 Player Efficiency Rating.

Oden, 25, has since admitted to struggling with alcohol and depression during his short NBA career. Spurs draft pick Deshaun Thomas told the Oregonian that Oden looked “unbelievable” during recent workouts at Ohio State.

“He’s running, he’s lifting weights,” Thomas said. “You might be seeing a comeback. He looks like he is ready to go. He’s looking right.”

Spears also lists Miami, Dallas, Indiana, Memphis, Cleveland, Boston and Sacramento as having interest. A source said Oden is in no hurry to choose a team, if he does return to the NBA.

Knowing the Spurs they would make him an All-Star. All kidding aside they could be the prefect fit for him

Well it is. Look how good the west is. Most people in Portland thought at the start of last season the Blazers had a playoff team.

There was no one that thought Portland was a playoff team last season. They actually thought the blazers would be worse than they finished

I wonder if Aldridge, leonard and maybe Matthews could net asik and horford?

trade machine is broken again... you'd think something so popular would be a well-oiled machine.

Stunned we haven't heard about a massive Pekovic offer sheet yet. Assume it's only because Pek is off in Alaska wrestling grizzlies.

This made me laugh only because I could immediately envision it as true.

Imagine they got it down to get in the new salaries. Aggravating, though, because I feel like last year, it then wasn't up until the mroatorium was over.

RealGM has one too.... but it's not very good.

How exactly is that going to work?

I really don't know man.

Maybe Houston sends picks and Lin to Atlanta and asik to Portland, Portland sends Aldridge to Houston and Matthews to Atlanta, Atlanta sends horford to Portland?

No, any deal would require Josh Smith to go from Atlanta to Houston.

Aldridge would have to go to Atlanta. That's the only way Horford is included I think.

So maybe Smith to Houston for Asik + filler.

Asik+Horford for Aldridge+Matthews+Leonard.

That's the only way I can see it happening, but it doesn't seem like a good option because neither Horford or Asik is really a scorer. They're both realistically centers and that makes them somewhat redundant.

Yeah never mind.

Personally I think Portland hits a home run this summer if they can get asik and Allen this offseason.

New pieces of Allen, cj, Robinson, asik, crabbe, and withey already is solid

If that can be done, and Lillard continues to progress, I think we could be a 4th or 5th seed.

So if we make to the wcf; you think Aldridge stays?

Man, I just don't know. You'd think there's a good chance, but I just don't see LMA giving up going home for similar dollars. But here's another hypothetical--

If Olshey offers LMA a 4yr max renegotiation tomorrow (dropping our cap space to about 6.5M), does he take it?

good, not all that interested in Iggy

I think if Portland could somehow get Allen and asik before that offer; I think so.

If we are one of the four best teams in the west next year..... I think the chances are good he stays.

If we are a 7th or 8th seed and get bounced in the first round? I think he leaves.

How much extra would he get over his current deal? If its more than $40 million for two additional years I think it would be more likely than not he takes it. He’s seen Roy and Oden go down with career injuries.

If Dwight goes to Houston that is one Texas team without cap space for years. Do you think Dallas saves their cap space for the next two years just to make a run at LaMarcus? I think Dallas either spends their money to give Dirk some help or blows it up and tanks.

The Blazers will talk with agent Aaron Goodwin later today or Tuesday about free agents Matt Barnes and Francisco Garcia

I'm sayin if HOU is desperate for a taker, LA will be in need of a C. They could possibly want Lin too. I'm guessing a Lin + Asik for Dwight would be okay for both sides. But, on HOU's side: ya, they could get Dwight + other assets if they make a deal with someone else.

Not sure what this has to do with my question. Maybe I'm not following.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in the new CBA LA cant do that trade because over the cap teams can't do S&T. So basically for LA, it's Howard re-signs or he bolts, no other options.

I think only luxury teams can't. Over the cap is still okay
